    Hello all...

Greetings from South Carolina. New to the forum. Traded my 16' Tacoma Off Road for a 16' 4Runner Limited. Wasn't happy with the new engine and couldn't get used to high rpm towing. Also needed more room for the dogs. Looking forward to keeping this one for a long long while.

Lots of converts over here. I got the 4Runner for the same reasons, except I just skipped buying the 3rd gen Tacoma.

I can't say I'm a convert 'cause I still miss my 2nd Gen Taco... but TW gave me really good info which swayed me away from buying a 3rd gen. I got the T4R because I've always liked the look and it feels similar to my previous Taco.

    Welcome :)

I watched for a while as people got rid their 3rd Gens and told myself that I wouldn't be one of them and they had a stick up their butt. As time moved on I began to accept the fact that I was sitting on the same stick...:puke:

Thankfully I couldn't find a 15' DCLB 4x4 Taco in the OR or Sport I had been actively seeking, as my 3rd gen test drive made me have GERD. This redirected my sights to the 4Runner which I had never looked at since owning an 87' 5spd and an 88' auto over a decade ago, and man I am happy the blinders came off! Viva la Japan!

To all the fellow converts in the house, this place has a severe drought of tears and just a good group of happy owners. Am I right?

I liked the Tacoma alot, but I bought the 4Runner for the same reason .. To keep the dogs, sadly since Christmas Day, now dog, inside with us. I love the 4Runner!

Congratulations on the new ride, and from one new guy to another .. Welcome!

Edit ... And, this forum is a very friendly place, and I hope it grows.

IMG_1579.jpg IMG_1396.jpg I'm a transfer too. I traded my 16 Tacoma for a leftover 16 SR5 4Runner. I hated the transmission in the Taco. Much happier with the five speed in the 4Runner. Painted my house in between taking the pictures too.

I agree about the transmission. That was one reason in addition to others. Couldn't find the right gear on any kind of incline, 4WD ECM failed, shifter knob broke loose and spun free, leaf springs squeaked like a SOB, and it towed an empty 10ft utility trailer at like 3500 RPM. All under 8,000 miles. I'm sure some of the issues are 1st 3rd Gen problems but I didn't pay 30 something thousand dollars for problems. Toyota was too concerned about fuel mileage and performance & maybe quality took a hit. I'm sure the Tacoma will serve others well without issues. But it was not right for me and ultimately I was disappointed.

Every time people post about the 3rd gen tacos I feel better and better about the decision to move to the 4Runner.

Went from a 16 Taco to a 16 4 Runner because the engine/trans mounts failed at 2000 miles on the Taco. Much happier with this 4R.

    I went from my '97 Landcruiser to a '15 4runner trail. traded that '15 trail for a '18 Tacoma PRO. I missed my 4runner son I bought a '15 4runner PRO for my work. Now I have the best combo.....bothorange trd.jpg black trd.jpg

4runner is better, but the software update definitely helped my tacoma enough to justify hanging on to it.

    Welcome to the forum!

I had a 2nd gen Tacoma for almost 2 years, but I was happy to get back into a 4runner. Lots of cool people on Tacomaworld. I still hang out there quite a bit.
