    I’m all for letting the market do it’s thing and great example with housing. I bought my Tacoma trd pro for 46 and sold it for 51. So should I have sold it for 43 if someone came up and said hey dude the msrp is 46? It’s great to get things at msrp right now especially a pro. I just lucked into mine at Avondale Toyota who sell at pros at msrp. People banging on some dealerships and rightfully on some so but if you bang on them and then turn to carvana and sell your msrp 53k pro for 63k or sell it personally for 66k seems a bit hypocritical. I mean if you pay 53 for your pro then you shouldn’t sell for more according to some that demand msrp in fact those people should sell for less. So any of you looking to sell I’ll give you 48 for your pro :)

    Marquart Toyota in Chippewa Falls ...picked up our 2022 TRD ORP at MSRP Best Toyota Dealer in WI and the friendliest down to earth folks you will ever deal with...this is our 3rd Runner.
    Honestly the best dealership I or my wife have every dealt with can't say enough good about them...They wanted us to bring our dog into the dealership and everyone came over to pet him and introduce
    themselves...Amie Yerigan was our salesperson and I have been talking to Amie for the last three years trying to buy a vehicle from her and finally we got one we wanted at the price we wanted.
    They won't lie to you or push you into anything you don't want make solid recommendations and their service is terrific and in every dept...Sales,Parts,Finance.
    I cannot recommend Marquart Toyota Chippewa Falls, WI enough!!!

    Lum's Toyota in Astoria was great to us. TRD Pro at MSRP. I have bought two Runners previously at Beaverton Toyota, but this time they wouldn't even take a deposit. They wanted a bidding war when a Pro finally arrived. And planned to add `dealer installed options' to make even more Never buying there again. Remember how you were treated when they were in their good times. 12% plus for them at MSRP and $0 out of pocket for flooring when you deposit... Tough to feel sorry for them.

    I understand what you're saying but I personally don't think new and used should be discussed in the same category when it comes to market value.

    Although it does not make much sense, in this current market, if you have patience you can get a brand new 4Runner trd pro or limited cheaper than a used SR5 premium depending on how and where you shop.

    I personally don't care much if a dealership lists a used car for the same insane used market price than a private party would sell their car for.
    When it comes to brand new ones though, they did not have to pay a "mark up" to Toyota to get their allocations, so it is not fair to mark up the consumer. IF Toyota marked up their prices to dealerships due to increase cost of manufacturing, etc... I would understand, but this is NOT the case.

    I was lucky to get the 4Runner I wanted at MSRP (like you at Toyota Avondale) but I feel for all the others that did not "luck out". Also, I know which dealerships to avoid in the future if I need servicing to be done. We have 5 Toyotas in my extended family and have always gone to Camelback phoenix for servicing. We will never step a foot there anymore just because the way they treat people (including me) in this market. Not just the fact that they mark up but also that they lie to your face, they laugh at you when you don't agree to pay 20k over and tell you that you will NEVER find one at MSRP. Almost got into a fist fight there...

    Not gonna lie, kinda want to bring my Pro in front of their entrance and tell all their customer to avoid coming here and go to Avondale instead

    Camelback and the old vantyl team. Bought my first Toyota from them an mr2 when they were Fann Toyota in 1985. It still amazes me in this day with all the research out there they stil act like it’s 1985. Avondale is a breathe of fresh air. I too almost got into a fist fight at camelback when I bought a 4runner back in 1995 lol. They had to call in the GM and brought out some middleman to settle everything. Havent been there since. I did call on a few vehicles there recently and it’s starts with are you willing to pay 10k plus over, it’s a short call.

    As for the new versus used I remember buying a c43 amg Mercedes’ in 1998 from Phoenix motor company that said I wasn’t allowed to sell it with in a year had to sign an actual document. Turns out people were selling them overseas and doubling their money. I can guarantee that no one will be getting the tundra pro at msrp not even at Avondale.

    Happy to add to this string. Got the same treatment last September (2021) at Lincoln Park Toyota in Chicago, Illinois. Huge mark-up over sticker price, was not allowed to test drive or discuss deal terms until I agreed to buy it and I was only allowed to drive 1 MILE on my test drive so as not to run up mileage on the rig. Will never buy another car from that place again. Terrible experience.

    Saw your thread on The Drive blog and wanted to share my positive recent 4Runner purchase story. 2022 TRD Off Road from Toyota of El Cajon California. The salesperson looked into their future order list and printed out the description and asked me if interested. No markup. He said I’d need to wait a few weeks to arrive and if I put down $1,000 deposit, they’d hold it for me a few days after arrival. 4Runner arrived 3 weeks later exactly as described and with zero markup. This was early December. I hope that Toyota of El Cajon is still providing the honest and enjoyable service I received as the car market continues to worsen and I’d encourage anybody in the SD area to try them out.

    In October of 2021, I placed a $500 refundable deposit at Avondale after they told me they would sell the Pro at MSRP. Same month, same question at Camelback, and they told me they would sell at msrp but they were not sure if deposit was refundable or not. I told them to call me back when theyd figure it out as I wasnt going to put a non refundable deposit.
    Fast forward December, Camelback called me saying the one I wanted just hit their lot and if I would come in right away it would be mine. Made sure to ask the price and they confirmed MSRP. Once I got there they once again confirmed MSRP, then once it was time to see "the numbers" it showed 84k. I started getting angry and asked why it was not MSRP, they said, it's how the market is and everyone does that. So I asked why they said over the phone and once again that they sell at MSRP. Apparently the salesman was "confused" and told me the wrong info and did a very poorly job at apologizing to me after I told them they wasted my time. Glad I didn't put a deposit there either since they couldn't tell me if it was refundable or not at the time.

    I know, I'm dumb for "trusting" them over the phone and not asking it in writing. I should have done that...

    Avondale on the other hand, kept their promises, treated me very well, and I would most definitely buy from them again + do my servicing there even though they are the furthest dealership from me in the Phoenix area

    The problem with these vehicle market adjustments is if they are insurable? Lets say I pay 10-15k above MSRP. Does my insurance cover me if I total the vehicle a week from now? If my house burns down my insurance will cover it and build me a new house to make me whole again. Is auto insurance doing the same? I doubt it but I could be wrong. I've never suffered a total loss with a vehicle yet.

    There are 2 ways to go about this. 1st gap insurance, covers the difference between value of vehicle and what is owed. And some insurance offer new vehicle replacement. So yes, I believe there is some protection. That being said, if you pay over MSRP, you are risking money and just throwing some away. The problem is, folks who have it to burn, are making vehicles more expensive for those that don’t have the money.

    FWIW, when I contacted them in early December they were charging $14k over MSRP for a TRD Pro. A quick check and they still add $1500 for TRD ORP and $9999 for TRD Pro. Perhaps they didn't add markup for your OR, but every model I just checked has $3k in dealer-installed accessories.

    Sounds like your experience was unique, but I definitely would advise OP from adding Toyota of El Cajon onto the 'good guys' list.

    I only registered to make this post. I went car shopping with a friend as she had to only have Toyota (has her whole life). We verified over the course of 2 weeks that it was not just one sales person acting for the dealership. In Anchorage AK (https://www.kendalltoyotaofanchorage.com/) Kendall is charging $3999 over every vehicle MSRP no matter trim, or model of new toyota. We verified by also anonymously calling and talking to 4 different sales people. She went ahead with it im afraid, just wanted a basic rav 4, I tried to convince her to wait or atleast see if CRV across the street was the same. She did call fairbanks also and they were even higher. Sad as the website allows you to look at window stickers on the full web version (for pc) and they all list MSRP. Note they were firmly non negotiable in person as well (tried for 4 hrs with her and I was being very polite the whole time). There absolutely should be a manufacturer direct option for MSRP + shipping.

    Wall of Shame: AutoNation Toyota, Tempe, AZ Asking $15,000 over MSRP.

    Waited 14 months on various dealer lists for the call. Both dealers call within two weeks of each other.

    In middle Tennessee, Beaman Toyota downtown were the only ones sticking to "MSRP". Specifically I'd recommend working with Tim as he was very honest and helped me get out of a bad deal at another dealer.

    Toyota North had a 5k MSRP markup on every vehicle. Even their "friends and family" discount only brought that down to 2k over MSRP. Will never consider going here for anything else ever again.

    Just purchased a TRD Off-Road Premium with a plus package from Fitzgerald Toyota Nissan from Chambersburg, PA, $51.2k out the door with taxes.

    I dealt with Brad, he's a no nonsense type of a sales guy, paid MSRP, when I talked to the finance guy I told him right off the bat, I don't want to buy the extended warranty, but I couldn't turn it down - $2300 for 10 years/125k miles $0 deductible, it was silly not to. We've had a plenty of bad luck with modern electronics take a shit in our other cars, I figure the $2300 is worth the peace of mind I won't have to tear into myself.

    I was going to fly out and drive it back myself, but it's cheaper to just have it delivered to us. Flight from AZ was going to be $350-ish on such short notice, and about $950 in gas to drive it back, not including food/lodging. It costs around $1400 to get it shipped back.

    Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, Pennsylvania doesn't see me dot be charging over MSRP for new vehicles, but the pro al is that they don't have a whole hell of a lot; Their prices on used vehicles seem to be a bit more ridiculous, as they wanted like $25K for a 2013 T4R with over 100K miles.

    Wall of shame; Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, Pennsylvania and Sloane Toyota in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Sloane is the worst of the two, as they had a low mileage but worn out 2019 Tundra with obvious body damage for almost $50K and a 2019 T4R Limited for over $50K!

    There's a member on t4r.org that gave me a quote for the Toyota Care Platinum – Zero Deductible Extended Warranty for 10yr/125k miles for $1800. I plan to purchase the extended warranty before the manufacture warranty goes out.

    This is good but some dealers don't seem to be bothered by it.

    The comment section is getting interesting. Either people that work at dealerships or dealers themselves aren't happy about the article and leaving comments or consumers legit think it's okay to sell above msrp.
    Either way, I think its important for the information to be seen whether you agree with it or not.

    Just found out that the Larry H Miller Dealership in Colorado Springs were bought by the Baxter Auto Group from Nebraska. Both are now being called Corwin Toyota and apparently are now MSRP (at least per the salesperson I spoke to). Maybe the tide is turning a bit...

    First post to the forums after reading about this issue on TheDrive. I did want to post a positive experience in buying my first ever 4Runner. I picked up my 2022 TRD Pro the last week of December from Balise Toyota in West Springfield, MA and was charged only MSRP. The salesperson and business manager were both adamant about the dealership having a policy of never charging over MSRP, so if you're in the New England area, they are a good option (inventory depending, of course).

    It was an easier process than I expected - I drove up thinking I was going to chat about a preorder, but someone cancelled their order that morning, hence they had one on lot and were ready to sell if I was interested. Wildly lucky.
