Been working on & off this front camera project for some time now with today producing "almost" desired results. I did a lot of research to figure out how to wire an added front camera to my Samsung tablet but just could not make it happen so I did the next best thing - bought a wifi cam (creates it's own wifi) and the tablet easily hooked up to it. There is a slight delay in the video but we're talking milliseconds - it works better than I expected it to.

If the video doesn't come through I'll try something else.

That is a great idea! I was actually just thinking about this earlier today, and I was also wondering if maybe cameras could be mounted on each side on the roof rack for some cool trail cams. So if you had a camera at the front of the vehicle, and on both sides, as long as you could switch views on the tablet you could kind of self-spot.

I'm sure somebody has done this before, I doubt this is original idea lol. I'm kind of a moron when it comes to this stuff, so I thought I was super clever when I thought of it haha.

If one could figure out the complexities of “wiring” an analog camera to a digital tablet (I tried & failed) then it would be a simple switchology to select the desired cam. I do think there are apps that allow for two cameras for split screens but for now this projected is labeled “done”…

While I appreciate the work you put into this, does the State cop that pulls you over for 'obstructed vision' appreciate it? Each state is different and so are cops, I'm not sure it would fly here in Wisconsin, valiant effort on your part, I like the idea. Electronics aren't kind to me. No offense meant here Mike.

Like I said; I appreciate the effort, but each state is different. Recall a fellow getting pulled over for a "little pine tree" air freshener hanging from the mirror. That was probably excessive law enforcement.

None taken. Given that many new cars I've observed have a display similar to mine I have to think the safety research has already been accomplished. For me the attempt is proof of concept and a design for quick & simple mount/dismount (about a second). For me personally I’m not fond of some of the monkey bar mounting systems out there - that’s just my take. Most of my installs adhere to the KISS principle - Keep It Simple Stupid..

I love how you used the KISS method and then spelt it out. I guess you can say your keeping it simple for the simple minded. ;)

I must admit though. I have since relocated my phone to be a bit lower because it was excessive. Now it isn’t as bad for sure.

Have you considered the anytimebackupcamera.com option? They have a front camera option that allows you to toggle the front (and back) on and off on demand.

Yes, thanks. I wanted a larger viewing area than what OEM provides that why I went with the tablet coupled with a lot of frustration and spending a crazy amount of money & time. I wish now the idea never came into my head. The only time it would legitimately come into play is on the trail which doesn’t happen enough for me to just its existence - BUT it gave me something to be busy with. Now for the next project…. :spending:

As I reflected more into your concern (and I do appreciate the input!) I've spent the last 12 years as a volunteer for our local PD - you wouldn't believe some of the configurations they have in their vehicles - I'm surprised they don't cite themselves for visibility issues! For an officer to pull me over for my little "obstruction" they would have to be pretty hungry to cite my setup - plus, I no longer drive in California...:llama:

Go vertical? WiFi camera on an extended pole so while camping one has a wider view? Not a huge mast such as some of the police comm vans or news vans use.

I encourage the 'stay busy' mentality!!
