IMO Ohio is one of those places that if it's all you know, you think it's got to be better somewhere else.

But if you go somewhere else you realize pretty quickly what Ohio has that you now are missing.

Decent wages, decent cost of living, low-ish crime, affordable housing, good recreational opportunities, normal fucking people, values consistent with normal fucking people.

Winter sucks for like a 4 week period and summer sucks for like a 4 week period, but the rest of the year it ranges from liveable to pretty damn nice.

Edited to add, Montana does impress me as a cool place to live though. I already got the hat!

Before kids, maybe 27 years ago, we were this close to moving to Montana. Would have been a decent pay cut though. But I do like the state. Also SD.

LOL..... couldn't have said it better myself. Gas prices are some of the lowest in the nation and car insurance is a bargain (48th cheapest state)

The "Rust-Belt" stereotype is mostly obsolete.

The brewery and the college are about all there is here haha. I actually grew up about an hour from Castle Rock in a town of 250 people. I've never been to the Chalk Chalk Pyramids. We would always go into pastures that had limestone and chalk and see what we would be able to dig up

Being from Michigan I can say there are definitely some good people down in Ohio when I have traveled to fish on Lake Erie there.

My only complaint would be the Ohio Troopers who seem to stalk Michiganders. We stand out since we do not have a front license plate and they love to ticket us for going just slightly over the speed limit. No offense to my Ohio friends just my opinion. Its all good we are All Americans right.

Dude, same nothing against Michigan but you got to admit, when you leave Toledo and cross the border into MI, everyone starts to drive like a Bat Out of Hell lol.

Great folks and tons of awesome food. Detroit and the Tri-State are underrated.

Also........ got to love going across the border to the duty-free in Windsor for those massive bottles of Jamison :spending:

You're right its crazy when you come into MI on I75 north bound, everyone goes from 65mph to 80-85mph right past the rest area also. I totally agree! We do drive a bit fast here no doubt.

@mac1usa lol no lie, I kind of like it :burnrubber:

No offense to anyone from Indiana but the drivers there are dumb. They sit in the left lane 5mph under the limit. If you aint passing, move over!!! (In OK, troopers give tickets for camping in the left lane)

Ohio stopped with the front license plate last July. You can still get them if you want them but they will cost you extra. So, coming south from MI you might get more if a break since there will be a lot more Ohio vehicles on the road without front license plate.

Never understood why some states need both and some need only the rear.

There are all kinds of reasons for and against. As a motorist I hate drilling into my front bumper. As an avid cyclist, I would prefer cars have a front license plate. Most cyclist and most drivers are attentive and respectful, but there are douchebags on both ends.
I have a camera built into my rear blinker, and I do know a few cyclist who have had to use the video saved from a front license plate to prosecute idiots texting while driving.

Before I started road cycling, I was ignorant and never had anything good to say about them. then you realize how many coworkers, neighbors, brothers and sisters of your friends, parents and siblings of people you know are cyclists.

One more thing and ill finish my rant.

I will say this, during the weekdays in non cyclist-friendly areas I think it is absolutely stupid to cycle weekdays from 7AM to 9AM / 3PM to 6PM. drivers are in a rush to get to work, pick up kids, etc, and you are much more likely to get rocked. And if you don't wear reflective clothing or use blinking lights and dark areas, you're kind of asking for it. I have no sympathy for fellow cyclists that dress wearing all black thinking people will see them.

My father loves to ride his bike, that camera isn’t a bad idea. I don’t mind having 2 plates here where I am but I guess I am just used to it. I don’t think New York will ever get rid of it, it’s a easier way for cops to run plates.

With the recent snow fall and nobody shoveling / snow blowing side walks on main roads I see tons of bikes, walkers & people in electric wheel chairs on the side of the road. Not good! I drive a mile a head, some people drive with there face buried in Facebook. Love when a light turns green and dumb people are just glued to there phones not knowing to go. Then you beep at them and your the asshole. Lol.

LOL..... dude thats why I moved from Ohio to Texas. Sad part is I did not realize how bad drivers are here. I cannot cycle in the DFW metroplex unless its with a Saturday morning bike club or at White Rock Lake. Austin is WAY more bike friendly as its part of the culture.

I am seriously considering going back to Ohio… Problem is I got two choices: Go back to Ohio and have nine months of pristine cycling with tons of safe areas to cycle off-road, or stay here for the next few years and continue to use Texas as a springboard for overlanding in Colorado, Utah, and Arizona......

    first world problems lol

Yeah I passed on a new 4R at an Ohio dealer last year because they already punched the holes for a front plate. I know crazy to some.

I understand the cyclist perspective though makes sense. Unfortunately always some jerks out there who don’t pay attention. But as a side note please leave the tight pants for the ladies cycling.

Seriously a question I have been wondering, I did a first time home buyers program for my home & in the rules it says you can’t sell before 5 years. To refinance a home do you have to ‘sell’ the home to restart a loan at a different rate or no. The rates got pretty low from what I signed up with, and could save 1.5% minimum By refinancing I think still, unless times have changed again. Currently paying 4.5% on a 30 year fixed I believe it is. Second for the personal trainer, why is it so hard to loose 50 pounds! Lol

There are some programs that require you to be in the home for a certain amount of time before you can sell the house. It sounds like you're in an FHA loan with down payment assistance. If you do decide to sell, you'd be paying back that down payment assistance and possibly some sort of early pay off of the mortgage penalty. That is a common thing, lenders will put a stipulation if you pay the mortgage off too soon, they haven't made enough profit off of your interest yet, so they get the profit with the fine. So, the loan wouldn't make sense for them financially if you sold and paid it off early.

As far as a re-fi, no, you don't have to "sell" the home to set up a different rate and/or term. Again, your specific program from the state MAY not allow you to refinance for a certain period of time without some sort of penalty. My boss said we generally add that to the loan pay off during a re-fi when it comes to down payment assistance plans. Feel free to shoot me a PM with any info on your program. There are regulations that don't allow you to refinance too early in the loan, to protect you as a consumer from shady loan officers looking to make a buck off of you, and leave you with no equity in your home and unnecessary fees. A lot of that stems from the nightmare of 2008, regulations changed drastically after that. Those regulations are null if the refinance benefits you financially. What happens is your old mortgage gets un-recorded (we pay it off), you collect your escrow reserves, and we record a new mortgage with the change in rate and/or term and balance. For example, we do a lot of refinances at my company to remove borrower's mortgage insurance that they had to originally pay because they didn't put 20% down on their home. It may be a couple years into the mortgage, we pay off the existing loan along with any debt consolidation they want, or cash out against the equity for home improvements etc they want. All of that, and the closing fees get rolled into the finance amount and generally there is no cash to close and we waive an appraisal. Our borrower's end up skipping two payments, plus the escrow reserve and get some money back in their pockets. A straight rate and term re-fi, depending on income and credit.. yes.. you can still take advantage of the tail end of historic lows. The fed did announce rate hikes this year starting in March, but the whole conflict overseas going on right now has slowed that down.. I'm still seeing low to upper 3's for 30 year, and sub 3 for lower terms (15-20 year). All dependent on income and credit of course lol.

As far as stubborn weight loss, it really depends on first and foremost.. DIET, that's a huge part. And then your program. Most people think if they starve themselves and just go on a tread mill and go as fast and long as they can until they feel like they're going to pass out, they'll get results. When really, the name of the game for fat loss is resistance training. Aerobic training burns carbs, anaerobic training (weight training) burns fat. Lifting some weights is vital. And eating the proper calorie range to fuel your work outs, along with the proper balance of macronutrients. General rule of thumb, your target body weight in grams of protein a day and wrap carbs and fat around that. Low carb, moderate fat, high protein and a small caloric deficit to start. Hypertrophy (muscle growth) after the initial weight loss, I'd up the carbs to assist in muscle development. Adjust as needed with energy levels and how you're feeling. I hope that helps! Again, feel free to shoot me a message if you need help with a program.
