Eureka Camping stove and grill

Anyone have this for camping?

 

Yes, we have the one on the left. We've had it for two years and it works great. I am not thrilled about the small little green propane canisters that go with it, but I would imagine you could hook up a larger propane container.

 

I have the two burner one on the top. I actually use it every day because I don’t have a stove in my apartment. Works beautifully and easy to clean. I do wish I could hook up a bigger tank, but not super comfortable with that inside the house. One canister lasted me 4-6 weeks depending on how much I’m cooking, which isn't much. Simmers well but did seem to take a long time to boil a larger pot of water. Works fine for smaller pots (like 2’person servings)

 

We had a riser on a 5-gallon tank at our hunting camp. Lantern on top and the stove hose connected towards the bottom.

The blue one on the left is amazing. Used it many times, always lights and stays lit. Tons of BTU power to cook really quickly. Bring your cast iron!

This is more like what we had but it was one piece and not nearly that expensive! I might still have it around=I'll check when the garage warms up some!

How much does it weigh? Amazon says 12lbs? That seems very heavy for a 2 burner stover.

 

I saw it at REI in the "Garage Sale" area (one of the burners was broken). Its not that heavy when you hold it. Its like 5-10lbs.

It's takes the skinny Coleman butane cans, which are cheaper than the green propane cannisters nowadays. At my local Wal-Mart, propane is close to $10 for a 2 pack and the butane cannisters were like $3.47 each...

I use that for to cook a pot of...whatever. For just boiling water to dump in a freeze dried food pouch, I use a Jet Boil.

 

Would you get the Minimo instead?

 

we have L.L. Bean's version of the blue stove on the left in the OPs post. It works well, and isn't too heavy. We take it car camping. If I'm backpacking I take one of these:

Jet Boil is a double edge sword. It boils water FAST...way faster than a microwave for 20 ounces of water. But, it's a pain to "cook" with, like making a pot of spaghetti or a pot of chili, simply because the Jet Boil cup is so small, as is the burner size. So, you'd be putting a larger pot on the Jet Boil adapter "feet," which can be rickety if you're not on a perfectly level, stable cooking platform.

So, if you're just using freeze dried food of soup, it's the way to go. If you want to do more involved cooking, I'd have something else to accompany it.

Edit: If you do go the Jet Boil route, make sure you get the newer valve units they have, like the Mini Mo. They simmer well. The older valve units have 2 settings - off and wide open.

 

We have the blue one on the left also, and yes, you can buy an adaptor hose with a valve on it from Amazon to connect it to 5 gallon propane bottles. Very easy to use, and comes in handy for cooking if the power goes out for more than a few hours/days from hurricanes or ice storms.

 

I picked up a Gas One GS-3400p a while back. Haven't had the opportunity to use it camping, but I've used it some with my cast iron in the house. Works great! Time will tell on quality but for $40, if I can get a few years out of it I will be happy.

I'm a gadget guy, so I had to have it....I've never seen anything like it. I gave my Wal-Mart model to my daughter for her camping gear stash.

On a side note, REI is charging $9.50 for 1 small, green propane cylinder....yet the butane cannisters remains at or near $3.00 per cylinder.

 

You'll love it. Test the cup at home before taking it to the "wild" to check for leaks at the rivet locations. I speak from experience.

 

There are Jetboils for boiling (Stash, Flash and Zip) and Jetboils (MiniMo, MicroMo, MightyMo, Sumo and Genesis) for cooking.

There is no "new" valve unit. Sumo (discontinued I think) has beena round for a long time.

 

As a REI member, I've checked out these stoves in that area and they're always missing a part. Buyer beware, but also they have amazing deals sometimes.

 

I use a old Colman stove similar to that blue one. Accept green works good

 

Yes I was thinking maybe i could fix it, but i try to find other "ways".

 

Thank you for the clarification. I should have worded it to that one should get one of the models that can simmer because not all of them can.

 

Actually, I was thinking about having Eureka stove and grill. Previously I used to have UCO from https://lilgrill.com/best-camping-grills/, but the cooking area is too small for me Now I'm sure that I should try Eureka, thank you all Also should try Jet Boil too

 

Anything Eureka! is garbage, go with coleman or camp chef for a full size camp stove.

 

I stick with my backpacking MSR multi fuel stoves. I rarely make any big elaborate meals and quite often just freeze dried. If i need big ill bring my Webber.

 

How has it done for you? I need one of these. So many brands to look at.
