I have a rebuilt dyno tuned 1987 22re with just under 10,000 miles on the rebuild. I want to lift it and put bigger tires on it, but the 22re 4cyl has a hard enough time pushin the 31s I have on it, so I would like to put some power in it first. I would like to know everyone's thoughts on turbo vs supercharged. I've seen a bunch of different prices and talk about both and figured I'd just put it out there and get my own feed back from ya'll.
Please and thank you for your honest opinions and thoughts.
(Photo is a random pic I had, if it would help I will gladly take more pics of any part of the motor. let me know please)

for a 22re i think the internals are capable of mild boost from both turbos and superchargers, probably in the 10-15 psi and 6-8 psi range, respectively. The benefits of a turbo are that it is not parasitic to the motor, meaning it doesn't use engine power to create boost, and for that reason I would go turbo if possible. Superchargers are more immediate and responsive but a good ball bearing turbo can spool quickly at low RPM and can be a very good option

With the 22re it's a no brainer- they came from the factory with a Turbo so Turbo is the way to go - there are a TON of parts out there to make the swap super easy as well - I will say the stock turbo'd ones from the factory were turds but it was pretty easy to get more power out of them. on my old 22re when I pushed 35's, the LC Engineering header, head, enginbldr cam, maf trick, and 5.29's made it livable for me. But adding boost up to around 10psi should be no problem, anything about that your going to need to build it bottom up.

Supercharger the issue is finding one anyway - been a LONG tiem since I had a 22re but don't remember superchargers being readily availiable where the turbos were plentiful.

Ok i think im gonna go with turbo, makes sense considering they built them stock. I can turn a wrench and what not, but iv never done anything with turbos. Can ya'll recommend somewhere to get a full kit or a list of everything i will need? The 22re was rebuilt and dyno tuned with approximately 8,000 miles on the rebuild, its a non-turbo 22re... if i have to replace the block or do major changes internally, then ill just bag it and ask if theres a simpler way to get more power.
please give any and all information as i said im new to turbos, but turning a wrench is what i love to do. so id really like to do it myself rather than pay someone to do it, but as i said if i gonna need to take the motor apart then im not that eager to turbo. Thank you for helping and recommending different things.

Wasn't aware that there are 22re superchargers out there. I agree with the others though that turbo is the better move. Regearing could help the sluggishness a little bit too. And if none of that works you could always try this :lmao:

I just watched the episode a while ago. When Finnegan put his face by the port in the cab and it sucked his cheek in I fell out!
