My truck didn't come particularly "stock" to begin with, and it's an '07 Limited V6 in Nautical Blue Metallic with the "Stone" grey interior. It's got the JBL Synthesis speakers, leather seats, the double-decker cargo system, a sunroof, and finally 4WD.

Here's how she looked when I first got her:

    Here's how she sits now:

Here's a little bit of backstory...
So, as I had suspected, my '04 2wd 4runner's motor was a goner at 205,332 miles. Keep in mind, that my vehicle is my DD and my toy, so if something goes terribly wrong, I usually have to send it to a shop for the sake of time, being that I have school and work across the river over in Illinois now. That being said, I was not really in the position to take on a motor swap myself, being that the whole process would be a learning experience for me, and I'd be bound to ruin something while I'm at it, but I digress. When it came to talk $$$ for the motor swap, even doing it myself seemed pretty pricey, finding motors out of wrecked trucks with well over 75000 miles on any of them still going in the $3k range. I decided to get quotes from shops in my area, and an engine rebuild was completely out of the question in terms of price. For a motor swap, the shop gave me 2 options: Swap from a donor truck with 120000 miles, or swap for an already re-manufactured motor. Then a third idea hit me like a brick wall: This is a 12 year old truck, with 205,332 miles on it. I've had problems with the ABS system for the past 2 years, I've had problems with the HVAC system and overheating (due to air getting into the heater core), I've had problems with rust all over the truck (which was mostly just surface rust/normal bolt seizing stuff, but it was just an added reason in my head). More than anything, though, what happens after I swap the motor? The transmission has 205,332 miles on it, too. Not to mention, the truck is a 2WD, so if the transmission were to go out, it'd be stupid to not swap for 4WD. So I came to the realization that I really only wanted to hold onto this Runner because it was my first car, and I had an emotional attachment to it. After looking at potential cost for the motor swap and on top of that, what else could go wrong after the swap, I decided that there's a very real possibility that I may need to get a new truck.

While I was car-less, my mother was kind enough to lend me her 4runner, which I then wanted to buy from her as a new build platform, as it was a well-maintained, V8 4WD Limited. This then ended with even more bad luck: The other '04 was totalled...

    '04 Limited V8 4WD, Before:
    '04 Limited V8 4WD, After:

So the search began solely as a "last resort" type deal, because like I said, I have an emotional attachment to my truck. I began looking online, mostly for pre-'06 4th gens, with a few potential 3rd gens. I had found 2 that had really fit my wants/needs in terms of replacing my old truck, and one that was a bit out of reach. Needless to say, I got the one that was a bit out of reach, because I apparently like doing things in a much more difficult manner than I should (i.e. building a 2wd to convert to 4wd; looking back I sound like an idiot, lol). I still have my '04 sitting in the shop, and I need to tow it to my parents' house (I don't have a garage in my small little city house, and honestly I'm scared to park anything out here at all, lol). But, I come to you with the beginning of a new era. A new build. An interesting build. And more importantly than any of the rest of that? A 4WD Build.

So, I guess although two 4runners had died at my hands in a single month, it really goes to show the truth behind "third time's a charm." I got an '07 Limited, with a steel bumper and winch, and full dealership maintenance records. My mom decided that, after seeing how well her old truck took the impact, she was going to get her third 4runner. Low and behold, the next day, an '08 UrbanRunner came into the dealer close to her house, and she immediately pulled the trigger on it, as it only had 65k miles, and full dealership maintenance records, as well.

    Her new '08 UrbanRunner V6 4x4:

So today I towed the 2Runner back from the shop to my parents and began swapping the mods over to to the new truck, and began taking care of some maintenance.
So far, I've swapped my LED reverse over, swapped the middle dome light that was out (which is NOT burned out, the LED board is stuck in the dome with double sided tape, and has a wire connecting it to a festoon connector. The LED will slightly illuminate, but never fully, and will change a little when I play with the wire. Any suggestions? The one I swapped was one of my ghetto rigged LED's from the 2Runner, and I just took the festoon connector out. The LED I swapped is slightly different color temperature, and although most would never notice, I'm apparently extremely OCD when it comes to my truck), I replaced the indicators in the ARB (which I also found are wired slightly incorrectly, so they act a little funny. It's just something I'll have to look at later and maybe even think about swapping to LED indicators when I go to LED turns/indicators all around. I also have the indicator bulbs backwards on the passenger side, lol. Two different bulbs with (relatively) the same base, so the brightness is funky), and finally I parted with my all-weather mats from the 2Runner and gave them to my Mom for her new UrbanRunner. Now I just need to match my rear and cargo areas with weathertech liners.
Soon (i.e. this week or weekend) I should be swapping tires over, depending on the outcome of this thread. Hopefully the 17's should fit over (what I think is) the bigger sport brakes. Then I'll bring the real tools over and swap my intakes in exhaust in a record time of 10 minutes. (I'll record and time it, Here we come Guinness!)

So after replacing the bulbs in the ARB indicators, I'm pretty sure I've found that the previous owner didn't wire them entirely... correctly. They're acting a little funky. With parking lamps on, only 1 side comes on. With headlights on, both sides are on, and when DRL's are on, one of the lights on one side is out. I also found that the little amber LED on the passenger side window is a bit weird, too. It'll turn off when the window is being rolled down, and dim when it's being rolled up. It'll also turn off when the windows are locked (maybe that's intentional, like the light is to show window switches?). So I really want to figure that out. I also ordered a 30 pack of T10 LED's to swap on the running boards for now (since one was out), the bulbs for the climate control screen, and the 4x innovations Rola drop brackets. All should be here Thursday. I'm also having trouble with this rearview camera the previous owner installed. It was working on the dealership ad, but the headunit has the rearview icon greyed out and it says "OFF," making me think it detects it and I just can't work the head unit. Finally, I'm wondering, can I get a similar finish to the bumper with spray paint on my roof rack? Or is my only real option powder coating? The difference in color and texture, as well as the rust that drips from it all currently bug me. I also have found the side plates on the ARB are a little rusted on there. Gonna soak in PB Blaster over the next few days/weeks even just to ensure they come off when they need to. Stay tuned, gonna actually try to do stuff to this one.

So I've swapped all the bulbs that were out, but I'm still having issues with how the indicators on the ARB are wired up. Any insight on this? I'm also still struggling to figure out how to hardwire these Light bars to switches in the cab. Once I figure all that out, I'll relocate the Winch Solenoid and finally start cleaning up the wiring.

On another note, I also swapped the 265/70R17 GoodYear Wrangler's over from the old truck onto this one, and I'm looking at suspension to better handle the weight of the front bumper. FJ Coils and Spacers work, but it's rough. I'm currently looking at this, honestly, because it's cheap. It's the Toytec 3" Lift, and I'm wondering what justifies the $400 price difference in Toytec 3" and Toytec Ultimate 3"? I get that it comes with sway bar relocations, and bumpstop extensions, but can I not just remove the sway bar and get some other cheap bumpstop extensions?

Hopefully I can find some Cyber Monday deals on suspension. Regardless of when I'm lifting (again, I guess?), however, maintenance needs never take a break. This coming weekend I'm going to be changing the oil on the new truck for the first time. I always used a K&N Oil filter and Mobil 1 Full synthetic on the old truck. I know Mobil 1 is one of the top brands I can choose, but I'm wondering if I should move over to Royal Purple on this build? I've read the "science" behind Royal Purple and it doesn't seem like much if any real advantage over Mobil 1. Any insights??? I'm wanting to also grease the zerks on the driveshafts because it is a little clunky between being on the brakes to getting on the gas. Then because the CV boots were slightly leaky when I got it, I want to potentially re-grease the joints on the CV shafts, but is this really worth it between the fact that I don't expect it to take too long before I need to swap the shafts entirely, anyway. I'm also going to try to literally look at this indicator wiring until it decides to work. That or I'm going to pull it out entirely, find the problem, then throw it back in. It's just kind of a bitch to do all of this reaching my hand between the bumper and fender liner, since the side-skids are kind of... on there. Like, really on there...

Edit: Also, I've heard some negatives to a K&N oil filter, but didn't experience anything weird, and wondering if that seems to be more of a one-off type thing.

Edit2: I also think I'm going to clean up the reverse camera's wiring with some looms and shit, too, because I got that working (to what I believe is) fully functional. I'm weary about this, though, because I do kind of want to relocate the reverse camera (maybe with 2 bolts and nuts, and a rubber stopper under it on the bottom 2 holes of the plate), as it's kind of a PITA in terms of lifting the hatch (especially when someone who hasn't before is trying to, it's just RIGHT in the way of the handle, lol).

Well the 5 speed is super nice (I can't remember whether you're v6 or v8), and the upgrade from foodstamps edition to a Limited was wonderful, as well. I think half of it comes from the truck being modded from when I got it, though. It's cool to have aftermarket stuff I plan on changing anyway, so I don't feel as bad.

On another note, I don't have to ask myself whether the truck is running or not anymore. Only pics I snagged before it got dark, but I threw a TRD tip on a side exit and replaced the stock muffler with a magnaflow (with a lifetime warranty ayy).

Also, is this top part of the door panel separate from the rest of it? It looks like it is, but knowing toyota... I just wanna swap the piece over from the old truck, since it looks like the previous owner had dogs, lol.

Took the new rig wheeling the other night in the snow. This was my first "real" wheeling experience in my new rig (other than the mud I buried the truck to the frame in on the stock tires), and I did stupidly did it with 2 buddies in a single rig, in the snow, from 10PM-1AM, at 7*. Due to the whole single rig issue and the fact that it was 7* out, I didn't get too much coverage of it in terms of photos. Truck did very well, though, and I got into a few situations where I was not sure whether or not I could do it, but I kinda had to. Didn't get stuck, didn't have to winch out, and no trail damage (other than stupid pinstripes). [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

In other news, I've flipped the rack mounts, so the cross bars no longer sit on the roof. I've also swapped plugs, and the PCV valve, as well. Next I plan on sliders, rattle can black wheels, and a single light bar replacing the 2 on the bumper.

What sliders, in your opinions are the best bang for buck bolt-on option?

Did the tick reduction thing the other day, where you isolate the PWM valve from the bolt. Obviously, the valves still tick, but this thing really amplified the sound. it's quieted down quite a bit now.

Also, I did actually get around to cleaning up some of the wiring spaghetti through out the truck. I did, however, decide to start off easy, and just loomed up the rear view camera wires, so they don't get tugged on by the bottle jack/tire tools when moving in and out. Loom is only partly on it, too, lol. I'll eventually ACTUALLY clean it up.

Lolling @ this pretty hard right about now, too. I got a puppy, and she's doing even more to the back, so glad I didn't do anything about this yet :)

Took a trip out to a buddy's land a few days ago and camped out there.

Of all things that I could have broken, I'm glad it was just a fog light!

Replaced my fogs today, and ended up bending a skid bolt on the way out so I gotta fix that in the morning.

finally getting around to actually compensating for the bumper weight, as well as actually lifting the truck pretty soon. Well, hopefully. Just ordered some OME 887's for the front, and I'm hoping to save enough within the next month or so for a set of Bilstein 5100's in all 4 corners. Finally, I am supposed to be receiving some Icon 2" rear coils from a buddy when he swaps out his suspension. Really excited, and really wishing I could just have all the parts now :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

    1. Had a shop replace my upper and ball joints (as there was no way in hell I was getting those lowers out at home, especially considering they said they struggled with their 50k press and torch) with some MOOG replacements up top, and MOOG problem solvers in the lowers. Also replaced my OTRE's with OEM I got off eBay.

    2. I also extended my rear diff breather, using that RAV4 intake union piece everyone else uses. I am kind of worried, with the few threads being exposed (which is apparently normal), if the diff would take on water. Should I be using something to seal that off? Or is it sealed with the threads slightly out when torqued down tight?

    3. I replaced the broken fog, and broke the other one while trying to remove the Lamin-X lmao. (Now I'm glad I could only buy them as a set lol). Probably gonna upgrade the bulbs to amber LED fogs and keep the lense clear to match the rest of the lights.

    4. A few things in terms of my suspension plans have changed:

I'm no longer using the OME 887's up front, as @Emelianenkov sold me (and is going to be shipping hopefully sooner than later lol) his Radflo 2.0 coilovers from his FJ as he upgrades to an LT setup.

He's still sending me the Icon rear springs, so I'll still be upgrading the rear shocks to either some Bilsteins, some OME Nitrochargers, or some Fox remote resi's (if I'm feeling ballin' enough to spend the big bucks).

Because the Radflo's are slightly wider than stock, and I'll be running around 3-3.5" of front lift, I'm upgrading to new UCA's. I don't know whether I'm going with adjustable UBJs or uniballs yet, though. Leaning toward LR adjustables right now as they're sealed ball joints, still allow for proper caster alignment, and require a lot less maintenance than Uniballs.

Now, for the front diff drop. I've done a lot of research on the things, and have come to the personal conclusion that, realistically, they end up causing more problems than they solve:

I've read of increased driveline vibration (which unless I'm replacing every bearing on the whole thing monthly and never wheeling it, isn't going away it seems like lmao).

I've also read in a few separate communities, compilations of some really nasty front diff carnage that was generally agreed as fault of the diff drop.

CV angles may be slightly increased, which, I believe, only adds significant amount wear on the boots. I feel like the SDHQ HD CV boots would easily solve this problem, or even the old CV boot stretching method.
    5. But alas, I have more shit that takes priority over doing anything cool. A few maintenance items, a few broken things, and some more shit left over by the previous owner:

First, my radiator is getting enough dried coolant build-up on the top right corner to where I think it's actually time to replace it. Gonna flush the coolant system and the block while the radiator is out. Thinking about replacing the thermostat while I'm in there anyway, and getting some Goodyear radiator hoses just to say I have them lol.

Because I've always had some weird knock type deal going on with the A/C compressor, I'm probably just going to replace that while the radiator is out of the way.

I don't know if the whine on my engine is coming from the A/C compressor, or the idlers/tensioner pulley, so I'm probably gonna replace them all, as well, as they're pretty damn cheap and easy to do.

Had a buddy restore my headlights (because it was all stuff on the inside), but the first rain since I put them back in, the drivers' side filled with moisture. He also left the weather stripping off, which kinda bugged me, since he did charge me for the work. But he is coming to me to reseal it for free this time.

I finally started trying to do something about that jammed in winch solenoid, and one of those shitty nuts holding the connectors in stripped out, and I've been having trouble getting the cable boots back over the connectors. The box is now in a zip-tie web while I try to figure out what I'm going to do in terms of the bracket to stoutly mount it.

I figured out the connection issues in the ARB mounted turn signals, too. IT WAS LITERALLY JUST THE GARBAGE-ASS QUICK SPLICES. WHY DID THIS GUY USE SO MANY OF THEM?! Now I just gotta get some time to pull the plates and the battery out of the way, clean the connections and replace the connectors (don't want to use quick splices but don't want to solder cause I may need to remove in the future again).

I pulled the Rola to sandblast it and recoat it with something similar to the ARB (It currently looks like rusty scrap metal lol). I also pulled the radiator skid and the engine skid to paint them, as well, and they turned out like trash, so I'm gonna sandblast and recoat those as well.

Also had a skid bolt strip out for the second time, so I have to get a longer one and weld a nut on top of the cross-member under the radiator or something.

Finally, I now just have to get that vertical center mount for the V8 tow-package hitch. Got all the side bolts tapped in.

Also had the front passenger wheel bearing go out, and replaced that, too.

I forgot to post about it lol, but I went out to CO for a bit of wheeling over the summer, too. This was in the Comanche Peak Wilderness Area.

Rear end making some... peculiar noises. Kinda always had a slight, quiet whir, but it's gotten a bit louder recently and has been doing some other funny stuff.

It whirs all the time from about 5mph and on, but from about 5-12mph the sound is deeper. It doesn't change pitch much from 12mph and up or at all when turning, but it gets louder with speed until my exhaust and intake drone drowns it out. It's not loud enough to be heard over even the medium A/C setting most times, definitely not over even quiet music.

Sometimes, at highway speeds, between 60-80mph range, I'll get a few squeaks somewhere in the rear over a bump, regardless of the size (i.e. even the slightest change of drive shaft angle). The squeaks, as far as I've noticed, tend to come on only when I have some light throttle.

I'll also occasionally (pretty damn infrequent) get a vibration/almost grinding noise in the first 1/3 of the rev range when at WOT (like when I wanna hear a VROOM! or have to merge into a St Louis highway filled with our lovely St. Louis asshole drivers). I also sometimes have a very slight vibration/shudder under heavy acceleration.

Truck then shakes a bit/vibrates around 70-80 range, don't particularly run it past that. Also I think I feel a slight vibration sometimes when coasting to decelerate or with super light brakes, but that could also just be that most of my highway driving is on shitty Southern Illinois and St Louis City highways to and from school everday.

Shop that figured out which wheel bearing was going out (It apparently JUST started going out lol, and I could just barely hear it) didn't hear anything weird (to them at least), so I'm worried I may also just be crazy.

Diff fluids changed about 10k ago, and extended the breather too, nothing was abnormal there, no metal shavings.

I also sometimes think it may get slightly quieter on occasion when coasting but like I said, I'm genuinely concerned for my mental state lol

    Please halppp

Edit: I should add that I haven't been wheeling in at least 3 months.

So I finally got around to "finishing up" that turn signal fix, and it ended up being a lot more involved than I would have liked, but I feel great that I finally figured it all out. It was a bad ground connection in the end, soldered all that up, just to working standards for now. Later, I'll pull all the lights out, and make it look nicer, as well as heat shrink it all.
