The rig was supposed to be in tomorrow and “it’s being held up for a random Inspection so it’s not coming in until the 26th.”

I didn’t know there was a Toyota dealer in Gulf Shores, and I was literally just there a few days ago.

Gulf Shores went from a hidden gem 40 years ago to now ugh! Very familiar with Orange Beach and Wolf Bay. The Flora-Bama and interstate mullet toss!

How is a random customs inspection the dealer's fault?

Seems like a long time for a 'random inspection', almost 2 weeks? The time will pass before ya know it, frustrating though.

Interesting you mention "random inspection." My wife recently purchased a Tacoma and while talking to the salesman he said he had a customer waiting for a 1794 edition Tundra that was held up in this supposed random quality control inspection since October. He told me they will disassemble parts of the vehicle and put it back together. How much validity to that, I do not know. I can not imagine Toyota taking trucks apart after they were built and putting them back together.

He said the biggest offender right now was the Rav4 when pulled for these inspections takes up to 30 days.

I would ask the dealer for a screenshot of the delivery and status information.

I agree totally. One thing that got me was this dude “salesman” tells me “it’s now got a arrival date here in Ok on Jan 15th.” This is before I deposited my 1000 dollars to get it held for me. I go and make my deposit so no other hungry 4runner dudes will slip it out from under me and now all of a sudden it’s not going to be here until the 26th.

These dudes are a bunch of crooks. You can’t tell me you don’t agree. I’m thinking a snapshot of the delivery date would suffice.

My sense from discussions with a local dealer is that they don't have accurate info on deliveries, which depends on all of the issues at the ports: problems with ship unloading, lack of truck drivers, etc. The dealer gets an estimated delivery, but it's likely not going to be accurate with all of the confusion going on these days. Not necessarily the dealer's fault.

I'm not sure I'm seeing a fault with the dealer here. If the issue is the deposit, I'm sure you could cancel it if you really wanted to.

I'm no fan of dealership sales tactics, but this is something they have no control over. I work with import shipments 10-12 times per year, and every now and then a shipment gets selected for a random customs inspection, and there's nothing I or my company can do about it. Once they're done, the shipment is released and on its way to the destination once more. If your deposit was to keep your new 4R out of the hands of 'other hungry 4runner dudes', that will be the case whether you get it today or on the 26th. Customs is customs, deposit or not.

So is the dealer in Gulf Shores? Or is the 4Runner coming into Mobile port?

They told you that there was a delay. What aren't they being up front about?

I mean come on, man. I hate dealers as much as the next guy, but I think your anger is misdirected here.

Nah, I’m fine. I’m a good judge of character and know when someone’s trying to blow smoke. Like I said I’m fine, this post wasn’t for all the dealers little white knights to come to their defense I just voiced my displeasure through a post. That’s all.
