About to turn 80k miles on my 2014 4Runner. What's the average mileage life I can expect? Would love to get 200k! Regular maintenance done, just got 4 new tires, only problem was navigation system had to be replaced.

Great link showcasing how reliable the 4R really is!

I may be just as bad or as good as that guy! Eight months and 13,000 miles - no mods, 10,000 mile oil change and two 5,000 mile tire rotations, and only three washes (that's bad)!

I hope I have the same results! My daily driver and I average about 19,000 miles per year.

You should get much more than 200K out of it with good maintenance.

    I just hit 70K with my '19. :D

I did the math and considering that I average about 4000 miles a year, I’m gonna have to live to be a 134 years old if I want to put 300 k on my 4Runner. ;)

I am with you Slopemaster. I drove 4,000 miles between three cars when i drove to an office and now I am remote. I have had my 21 4R since June and only have 576 miles lol she will come out after the snow in spring.

Hoping to put at least 1,000 Miles this year going fishing and getting my boat out. So even if I hit 2,000 miles per year which would seriously probably be my max it would only take me 150 years to hit 300k miles so that will put me shy of 200 years old. Maybe I better plan some road trips for my retirement instead

Yes, between remote work (not complaining) and the pandemic, I’ve become a recluse. I get anxiety attacks if I stray 20 miles from home. ;)

Thought I’d bump this old thread with hopes some of you might share your big mile 4Runners.
Seems like a lot make it to 300 and beyond.

well my job went from remote to in the office in DC (i live in Ohio) every other week... that commute has now put 32k miles on my 2022 , so i guess in the next few years i will be testing out the longevity on the 4runner (or more likely getting a different job or moving closer to work)... glad to see the very high mileage yotas still on the road

Judging by what I've read here over the years, there won't be too many original owners w 300k. People get bored or anxious for the latest greatest MY.

    That is really impressive.
Could you share a little of your maintenance routine and more about your ownership experience?

Do you still drive it often or is it a secondary vehicle now?

Over on the 4th gen forum there's a thread about high miles. There are many on there with over 300K and several over 400K. I think the highest one on there IIRC had either 600 or 800K on it. I've seen a fair amount of 4runners and Fj's listed online with over 500K. And although it's different there have been several V8 4th gens reported with 1 million miles. My 05 V6 has 345K and runs just like it did new.

My Wife drives a 99 LE and has almost 400k. We bought it new and it just keeps on trucking!

I drive a 2015 LE (slightly modified) and I have about 168k, no issues at all.

Hey Danny, how's it going? The story behind this photo is that it is one of my long time customer's 4Runners so I can only tell you my perspective from doing the majority of work on it from about 200-552k. This guy drives a lot from Colorado to his job on a Reservation in Arizona. He was always at least 1k late on oil changes and the oil was usually at least a half quart low. I attribute this to a couple of leaks and extended drives above 75mph. The timing belt was replaced at least twice with Aisin kits w/tensioner, plus cam seals, and front crank seal. Valve covers were resealed and valve clearance checked/adjusted whenever the gaskets leaked. Most of the time, there are only a few tight valves on Toys, so I don't push people at any certain mileage, usually just recommend adjusting when a valve cover is coming off. I like to replace the cam plugs and remove the aluminum half moons and reseal while I'm at it. For Toyotas, I recommend a fuel pump w/filter replacement at 250k if you haven't had it replaced, much like a maintenance item and for good reasons. He didn't listen, and guess what, he had the fuel pump fail in the middle of nowhere just before 300k. The fuel pump was replaced with a cheap one. I got to replace it again for him within a year because it failed. I am picky about parts and would have to be desperate to use anything but Denso for that job. Basic ignition tune-ups were performed at 30k intervals, wires only replaced as needed. No snake oil machines, no B.S. Just stick to the factory maintenance schedule and use quality parts. I haven't seen him since the pandemic but this thread made me think of him so I posted that photo. As for personal Toyotas, wife has 07 4Runner with 215kish miles on 4.0. 5k oil changes with tire rotation, gear boxes and spark plugs at 30k, transmission drain and fills at 100k. Coolant 100k. Other items as needed or when I have time, haha. Just retired an 03 Highlander with 300+k (whole other story) and picked up a 21 4Runner. Haven't even put my permanent plates on that yet, but the four wheel drive has gotten a hell of a workout.

I second that!, general maintenance is key. Keeping this thread going! Aiming for 400k. Despite new air pump, control arms, cat, exhaust assembly Cat back, shocks etc the Runner is a keeper.

Changing the oil and filter is probably the most important maintenance item. My '96 Silverado has 272,xxx miles using Quaker State and a Fram filter. (Yeah, I know of the horror stories about Fram filters and what shitty oil Quaker State is. This thing burns zero oil.) 3,000 mile intervals. Other fluids have been changed at 100,000 mile intervals. Rear and front diffs, gear box (it's a 5 speed:yes:) transfer case, coolant. Brake fluid is flushed with every brake job. Stuff wears out, AC compressor, radiator, fuel pump, starter, alternator, 3 clutches, etc. It has been reduced to a wood hauler but still turns heads on the road. Spent all of its' life in the salty Wis. winters. I was a municipal snowplow driver. Pic taken Oct 2021. Labor of love keeping it like this.

Conventional you run? I’m assuming at every 3k for oil change.

Yep. Dino oil. It is getting more difficult to find conventional oil. Last change was full synthetic. I was concerned about developing oil leaks, and it does leak now.
