No more KDSS for 2022?

Not trying to stir the pot, but just trying to see if anyone else has heard similar.

I've had a deposit down at a local dealer since end of August for a ORP in Red/White with KDSS. Once or twice a month I get a E-mail saying he is getting some allocations in, however none have KDSS.

So here we are in January and decided to do some checking around at other dealers. The first one I contacted in ND asked what I was looking for and would give me a call back. He called back about 30 minutes later and said his contact at Toyota had informed him that... You can't order it with KDSS anymore? Or you won't be able to get it anymore? I assume some will trickle out of production? Just curious if anyone has any other contacts at Toyota or heard similar things?

Sales people don't really know anything. I'd check Toyota's website.

See if you can build a 4 runner with that option on their website.

And sales people sometimes will in fact bend the truth to sway you in whatever direction they want you to go in the moment. This is as politely as I can put it.

Last I heard, KDSS was getting an accumulator-less redesign for the next generation. I would be surprised to find out they were discontinuing it altogether.

I would not be surprised to find out that supply chain issues prevented them from being able to deliver many before then. Perhaps there is an accumulator shortage (for instance) and their solution is essentially to stop taking KDSS orders until the redesign?

    Interesting find nonetheless.

Pro's do not have the KDSS. ORP stands for "Off Road Premium".

You can build lots of things on their website doesn't mean you can get it. As someone who has purchased 3 new Toyotas in the last 5 years every time I optioned out a build and called the dealer. I almost always got the same response. Something along the lines of yeah can't get that with that, or that is only for South East Region vehicles.

    See above

That's just it. I already have a 4R coming into my local dealer, however it's missing KDSS. So when the sales guy from ND says they are no longer making it. He's effectively telling me he doesn't want my money. The only reason to buy from him would be if he could get me one. That is why I find it odd it it were a lie.

That's what I kind of wonder also. Move what is left of the parts available from the shelf then wipe their hands clean of the current KDSS system. Hold out for new model design.

You could be correct they may have removed the KDSS from options , I was looking at 2 different dealers over a month ago before I bought my Pro and was just going to pick up a Offroad premium and both had KDSS , may have limited .
If your playing on lifting or wheeling your 4runner the KDSS is not worth having it . I wish it was not on my LC 200 its more of a mall crawler option , I have had it on a few of my 4runners and just got in the way with the lifts

I have an '22 ORP with KDSS on the way. Supposed to get to the dealer sometime next month. The Toyota inventory page for the local area had a couple on there a few days ago but they're gone now. I've seen quite a few with KDSS on there though.

I find it easy to believe a salesperson would feed you a story like that, if they knew their dealership didn't have any KDSS-equpped 4Rs in their allocation. Their job is to sell what they have, however they can.

They also just want to sell you what they have on the lot. Still sales doesn't know anything. Why not travel to get what you want? Or contact corporate?

I just picked up a 2022 ORP with KDSS last week. Unlike you, I actually didn’t want it but it’s what came in and I got tired of waiting. I will say, I do like it more than I thought I would on the road. I’m only planning on a small lift, so that wasn’t an issue. I just didn’t feel like paying for it.

Not trying to stir the pot here but I have driven both and they're both good, that being said mine specifically doesn't have kdss because it has over a 2.5 inch lift and I didn't want to deal with possible issues (it's a very reliable system but not bulletproof)

Got my '22 ORP with KDSS about 2 months ago. In my experience of dealing with sales people for over six months around the country I found that they bend the truth in order to sell whatever vehicle is in their allocation. I was told by multiple sales people at multiple dealerships that " can't get white, sliding cargo deck, MTM, KDSS etc, etc." Simply not true. Finding a dealer that will help you to get what you want is a challenge currently due to COVID-19, chip shortage, transport issues, Toyota shutdowns, etc. I'd suggest that you find another dealer that is willing to work with you. Expect to wait until the stars align.

I was waiting for an ORP with KDSS and the salesperson didn't mention once that they don't make them anymore. In fact, another dealer had an ORP w KDSS that was being delivered few weeks ago that they wanted to sell me with a markup... which I didn't take. Ended up buying a used one with KDSS since I was able to get a decent deal on it.

I have a 21 with KDSS. 2.5 lift front and 1.5 back with UCAs. No issues or complaints. Wheel it regularly. Havent done any hardcore rock crawling with it.

I am going to disagree with the if you off road don't get the KDSS. If you are going extreme and need to lift more than an inch or two, then yes KDSS is a waste.

As for KDSS, I have been looking since August 2021. What I have learned, in Canada it appears to be standard on the Off Road Premium, in the North East we don't seem to get any, in the south east they get a few, out west they seem to get more. KDSS vehicles are out there.

That is just it. Because he told me they couldn't get it he missed out on a sale. I have another with my name on it locally without KDSS. Telling me this information did nothing for him.

See above. The dealer that told me that there is no more KDSS, lost a sale since he didn't feel like he could get one. I'm not in any hurry, so I can be picky.

I keep going back and forth on it. I think for a daily driver it would be worth it. If you are doing 3"+/Extended travel it defiantly doesn't pay.

This was news to me also. It may be a very recent change. Just got this information yesterday. Whether it is correct or not is why I started this thread.

KDSS is still available, if you do a search for TRD ORP nation wide on Cars.com(or any other site) you will see them. Their MSRPs start around 47k(sometimes you get the TRD wheel package instead if you filter that way), you can find some if you search this way. Whether a certain dealership can get an ORP with KDSS, that's a different story.

I wanted Lunar Rock with KDSS and that's supposedly the hardest combination to get so now I have a deposit down on a Lunar Rock ORP without KDSS. I could've picked up a silver with KDSS but I'm not a fan of silver.

Same problem on Autotrader. Makes it a PITA, need to sort by cost high to low, and read the copy and pasted text. With the jacked prices it's nearly impossible now. It's really a crap shoot.

You can't search for KDSS on any site but if you search for lowest price starting at 47k, you are more likely to find 4runners with KDSS. You will get some with no KDSS and have the TRD wheel package though.

Yeah, it seems that the inventory search on Toyota.com is showing all vehicles for dealers in your region that are in "G" (ground) status in the shipping process regardless of whether they're already reserved for somebody. For example, mine just went from "F" to "G" yesterday and it just showed up on the Toyota website this morning.

These are the query parameters used behind the scenes on that website when I search using my area code, which confirms it is limited to vehicles that hit "G" status (yes, I've been stalking mine and doing as much analysis as I can possibly do to understand the process to satisfy my own curiosity).

    "params":{"q":"((ti_modelYear: (2022)) AND ((ti_ser_code: (4runner)) OR (ti_vser_code: (4runner))) AND (ti_grd_code: (trdoffroadpremium)) AND (ti_dealerCode: (22053 OR 22035 OR 22021 OR 22025 OR 22055 OR 22034 OR 22017 OR 22044 OR 22048 OR 22045 OR 22051 OR 22041 OR 22054 OR 22056 OR 22047 OR 22038 OR 22046 OR 22030)) AND (ti_region_code: (210)) AND (ti_vehicleCategory: (G)) AND (ti_vehicleSource: (EFC)))^10 OR (ti_vin:ti_disclaimers20224runner210*)^1 OR (ti_vin: (ti_standard_features20224runner*) AND ti_standard_features: (2022|4runner|*))^1

This is just wrong. KDSS is specifically designed for off-road use. The reduced body roll is a secondary function.

True, they do interfere with taller lifts. But, 99.9% of 4Runner will probably never do anything that actually requires more than a small lift.

Anyone considering a long travel setup, or building a rock crawler, should obviously skip it. But, these setups will require a sway bar delete anyway, so it's a moot point.

That's funny... I ordered the same. Lunar Rock ORP w KDSS. Was told it would get to the dealer early Feb. I cancelled my order because ended up finding a 19 ORP w KDSS in Silver! I should have let you have my Lunar Rock order. I'm West Coast and the dealer I worked with was Longo... no markup on MSRP and since they are the biggest toyota dealer in the nation, they get a decent amount of truck allotments.

On the flip side, if you buy used...some dealers have no idea what a KDSS is (especially non-Toyota dealership). So, I wasn't charged anything extra for being equipped with KDSS.
