I dropped 27 bucks on the spray-yourself wash the other day. The salt was increasing my sodium levels.

I haven't done a proper wash in awhile. I was going to run through the touchless automatic at Kwik Trip on Sunday, but the line was nuts!

:p Nice and warm tonight. Sounds good for a carwash. It feels all special when it’s a carwash night. Especially when I'm going to order the grape smelling sprinkle foam. I try to make it a family event even, but the kids just dont get as exited as I do anymore. :p I’d like to do the lava treatment, but dont want to go over the top lol.

Almost better to go near bedtime though because of those lines.

It's for anyone who feels like participating. :D

I was just talking to some of the TW guys about a possible trip to the Mark Twain. I mentioned that we have a member here who's on those trails every other weekend (or more).

I want to set up a weekend trip over there sometime this year. Any recommendations for camping in or near there?

You can camp anywhere in the National Forest. I have a couple good spots I can show you. Glade Top Trail has the best trails (so far) and is right down the street - 20 to 30 minutes from me.
    Glade Top Trail.jpg

Otherwise this is a designated camping area just north of Glade Top Trail. It has a Toilet building and walking trail to waterfall. I've had groups camp here Friday night then move to a more remote 4x4 accessible camp site in the National Forest the following night.

    Hercules Glades Tower Trail campsite.jpg

My 2 bath 2 bed guest / lake house should be done by this summer. If anyone wants a shower or to stay longer. Otherwise, I have 5 acre field that folks are welcome to camp on.

As far as the trails are concerned, a buddy of mine has done almost all of them in a 2wd Nissan Frontier with rear locker. He has broken 3 engine mounts blasting up the rocky hilly terrain. It is real off roading and 4wd low + airing down tires is recommended. Expect pin strips.

Feel free to check out my youtube for some of the trails:
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC21XgrK1QQQDMUld-U2XYvg/videos

We can easily spend 6 to 8 hours wheeling off of Glade Top Trail. I've yet to need to winch my own vehicle in there but have winched other vehicles on our trail rides.

Nearest Gas Stations are Bradlyville to the North West, Theodosia to the South East (my town), and Ava to North East (off this map). Ava, MO has a Walmart and Hotel.

    Gas Stations.jpg
Figure using about 1/4 of tank of gas, per day, Off Road in 4wd low. Probably best to fill up in Ava, MO if you are coming from IL, WI, etc.

I see a Wisconsin Tacomas crew/ Mark Twain Mafia shindig in our future.

@DRobs , what season is ideal for camping/wheeling?

I have Mafia stickers for those that wheel with us.

Dry is better than wet for off roading in there. With wet you probably want rock sliders, just in case.
SW Missouri is hot and humid in the summer + there are bugs - Ticks and Mosquitos. Spring, fall, winter is the nicest time to camp. It finally started cooling off here in December. It rarely snows here and then is gone in a couple days. Does get cold but not WI, IL, MI cold. Could be 50 to 60's during the day and 20 to 30 at night during Dec to Feb.

I camped out up there this last August - it was hot mid 70's all night long. High 80's during the day. I sweated my ass off setting up my tent. Bring lots of water. While there are a couple pit toilet buildings around, there is no water in them, in the National Forest.

For the smokers in the group, Tobacco is cheap in Missouri. $4 to $5 a pack of smokes.
No rules against open container of alcohol in Glade Top / Mark Twain National forest. I've cut back on drinking, but a cold Coors Lite does taste good mid trail ride.

You wouldn't be the 1st. We had 3 on a trail ride mid summer. They took their F&R bumpers off in advance of the trail.
This Manual Trans 19 or 20 Crosstrek burned out his clutch mid trail. We didn't take them on the hard trails.

Hard to tell in this pic but that is a significant couple of steps he went down.

I wonder if November would be a good month to shoot for. I have a bunch of stuff planned from April until October. This would give us time to make reservations if necessary, and maybe figure out a loose schedule.

    I would think maybe-

-meet up Friday afternoon/evening, setup camp, bonfire + BS

-get going around 8am Saturday, run trails all day, maybe take a break around noon and eat something

    -camp Saturday night

    - Sunday morning BS and breakfast, pack up, head home.

At least, that would work for me.

I'd prefer to just set up in a good location Friday, so we don't have to take down camp Saturday morning and set up again Saturday evening. Unless the group prefers to, then I'll just use my platform to save time.

That would work for me. I can lead you guys to a couple good sites Friday night. Depending on the size of the group camping on top of a Glade with a great view will usually hold more vehicles than camping in the woods.

Red "X's" below on the Avenza map have about 4 decent areas to camp. 2 sites in the woods on each trail and 2 sites on top of Glade. FR-149 is the main graded gravel Glade Top Trail (road).

    Camping.jpg

This is a Glade area. Great view, a little windy though.

Avenza is a free GPS mapping AP.

I use Gaia and Avenza. Here's what you want to down load in advance for Avenza:

AT&T works just fine in that area for cell service. Other parts of Missouri it's questionable.
