For decades (way before anyone even thought of an Internet as even possible), farmers, pilots, sailors, and many others have relied on weather forecast radios--just two examples of many capabilities and prices.

New Years Eve run to the mountains. The lights from the ski slopes behind me light up the surrounding areas and overcast skies. Here's to 2022!

    Alternatively you could look up...

If you see cows flying into a funnel, go the other way... And other assorted tidbits.

Like my wife asking Alexa what the weather is. Look outside, woman!!!

Most Jeep owners hate those 'angry' grilles...yet they persist.

What surprised me is seeing that Cherokee or Patriot, or whatever that thing is...

I’m looking forward to heading up from the valley to see some snow soon!!! How was it up there? We usually go flag but open to new areas!

Thought of going to Flagstaff but was limited by time. Thus, went to Crown King, spent the night, and came home the next day. At Crown King, snow was above 6,000' ASL and 28F. I think Flagstaff had snow almost every day last week. Be safe.

Lol, I like to call them angry eyebrows. It just makes jeep look like they had a bad day, and just need someone to be kind to them.

Especially true when the angry eyebrows are on postal-service-grade jeeps with stock street tires. Never have a seen such a pity inducing car face….”hey buddy, it’ll be all right”

I wont talk to the lifted angry jeeps with red DRL halos. They crazy and unpredictable

Led another trail ride on New Years Day. It was raining buckets. Creeks were moving but we went right through them.
    Me.jpg

    Kayla.jpg

    Mikes Nissan.jpg

Then this happened to my buddy Mike in his Frontier. His front wheels were locked up.

    Front Dif split in half.jpg

I threw him my kinetic rope and Kayla in the red 4runner pulled him across to dry land.
On the other side is a rock ledge then a steep hill climb. We tried hooking our 2 4Runners together to pull him up. No luck there. I then went up the hill turned around and came back down so I could winch him over the rock ledge.

I tied the rear of my 4Runner off to a tree and then used a snatch block on a tree across from me to winch him over the ledge at a 90 degree angle from my 4Runner. I swear I used almost every piece of my recovery gear to include - 2 recovery straps, 3 soft shackles, 2 hard shackles, snatch block, and my winch. I didn't use my recovery boards.

Winching him over the ledge freed up his front wheels - thankfully and we were able to pull him the rest of the way off the trail.

    Group.jpg
Turns out he cracked his front dif housing:

    Split dif.jpg

Another guy in our group is a full time mechanic. He took off the front axles turning it into a 2wd so Mike could drive home.

Before all this happened the white Liberty busted a CV Joint and also had to be dragged off the trail. He was able to drive it to a friend's house.

One of the reasons I traded my Frontier in for the GX. The front diffs are extremely weak.

They all looked the same from 2005 to 2021. I think his is 12 or 14.
Mine is 2006, when I bought my 4Runner I test drove a 2019 Pro4X. Almost the exact same everything as my 2006. I couldn't buy another one.

Nissan is a crap company for 1 and I got screwed over paying out of pocket for 2 factory defects - timing chain tensioners and pink milkshake (transmission / radiator cross contamination).

Kept my 2006 but have really been thinking about trading it for a Jeep Wrangler lately. I finally took my Frontier out on a real trail a couple weeks ago. I took all the same lines as I take my 4Runner on. Not having a locker or MT tires, it struggled. I was constantly spinning tires.

Here it is on a short but steep hill climb:

Did you see the caves, by any chance? There are several in that area. Just wondering if they're open and publicized. And yes, that really is a sweet place. "Homer's Nose," lol.
