Is anyone using the K & N filter in their 2020 or newer 4runner?

I see the part is listed as 33-2438 but on their site it doesn't yet show for 2022, only 2021 or older.

But on Amazon the above same part says 2010-2019. Just wondering if same filter will fit my 2022. It's cheaper by $5 on Amazon :). Was thinking of just getting one and seeing if it fits, but wanted to double check here.

I've used these on all my vehicles for the past 5 years.

    Thanks,

It's not about MPG improvements, it's about not having to buy an air filter like ever again. I hate waste and to me paper air filters are just a waste. I don't think there's any data to show improved performance of any kind, but to me, not having to buy an air filter every 9-12 months means over the life of the vehicle, I'm saving money.

If you care about your engine to have cleaner air regardless the cost use paper filters and change them as needed. No residue and clean air.

You manage your vehicle, I'll manage mine. There is NOTHING wrong with using these filters. Paper filters are a waste and their cost is too high for what you get.

You ask for opinions and people give them to you. Don’t get all butt hurt when someone tells what you dont want to hear. If change your filter every 30K even if it’s really dirty at least for me it would take 3 filter changes to pay for a reusable. There’s no cost savings in the beginning. Maybe after 90K miles. Reusable filters are a waste. If they were good manufacturers would use them.

Please read the initial post, I didn't ask for an opinion on the product, I asked if it will fit the 2022, because no data existed that it does yet.

to answer your question it will fit. companies arent constantly updating their compatibility list. nothing should have changed from 21 to 22 anyway.

Not giving the TS any advice here, but for anybody else considering it, stay away from these filters. More trouble than they are worth.

I guess one would have to decide what is worse: throwing away a paper filter every year into a landfill, or using a strong detergent to clean the filter of oil and dirt and washing it all down the drain with water.

Junk Filters that cause more problems then they are worth. Stick with genuine paper filters.

Anecdotal evidence is in several forums of some people having problems with oily MAF sensors and throttle bodies. Usually attributed to over-oiling the filter after cleaning it, which seems to be easy to do.

There was one reported study somewhere that tested oiled and non-oiled filters. It showed that oiled filters passed air through better but also passed more dirt particles. I haven’t seen that article but it seems plausible. There should be several test variables to consider, like which filter, how new, how many times washed/re-oiled, how much oil is applied, particle size, run-time of the dust particle test, etc.

The maintenance guide only calls for an engine air filter change at 30K miles or 36 months under dusty conditions. Before that it is simply an inspection of it. Toyota's price for a new air filter is $20 while the K&N price is $50. So if you follow the regular maintenance schedule, it will take you 7.5 years to make up the cost of the K&N not including the cost of the recharger kit.

But to answer your question, it's the same engine and vehicle so more than likely the K&N for a 21 will fit but it isn't 22 yet so nothing aftermarket is going to be updated.

That's a load of crap. The filter is $44 and a cleaning kit which lasts a minimum of 4 cleanings, is $15.

If you waited 30K miles to replace a paper air filter you're wasting your money in lost fuel efficiency. You should be checking your air filter and replacing it as needed every time you get an oil change, which for me is every 10K miles, Manuf recommended. Most people replace their air filters every year. Neglecting to do that or at least check it you waste a lot of engine performance and air flow causing loss in power and fuel efficiency. I clean my filters at least 1 time a year end of summer before it gets cold.

Which do you think is costing you more, the cost of a cleaning kit and $24 more for the oiled filter or the extra fuel you waste sucking air thru a clogged paper filter those last 20K miles over that first 10K.

To each his own. That paper filter with its nice Rubber coated edge will be sitting in a land fill for decades, paper rotted, while rubber edge never breaks down, while my oiled filter will be reused over and over again for a decade.

I know it's useless info for OP. I have used both Denso and Fram. I might try Wix next. Many say Wix is good.

I'm comparing new price from the manufacturer for both. Factor in the recharger kit cost and you're back to $50.

Also with airflow loss, you'd simply lose power since the airflow meter would see the reduced flow and use less fuel. So actually you would technically save gas with more restriction but use more throttle to overcome the power loss.

Wix is really good. I use their air filters on both of my cars and oil filter on my GTO but not the Runner since I bought a box of OEM filters for a decent price. Hmmm, maybe I should get one of those reusable oil filters to save on money.

    Edit: There's a sale! https://www.gopurepower.com/product/oil-filter-pp8431-x/

There’s literally no reason to use these filters.

They will not harm your vehicle in any way, the whole story about them fouling your mass airflow sensor is BS, but honestly I don’t feel like going through all the trouble of washing and lubricating my air filter every 5000 miles when I can just drop a clean new paper one in.

They also have no perceivable impact on performance.

Just like with a cold air intake, they simply put money into the pockets of the people who make them.

Except the loss of additional air flow and heightened throttle will just increase pressure on the other system parts causing more wear and tear and heat. Horse a peace. You'll spend more in other maintenance on something else. I prefer to maintain my vehicles with the Oiled filters, Feel free to use the paper ones. The good thing about this country is you can still do what you want, at least for a while.

Any perceived loss of performance from a clogged air filter can be regained by simply removing the hydrocarbon filter. (JK, /S)
