So there's a really bad knock, a huge loss in power, a terrible misfire, and it shakes very bad. Coolant is in the oil. My guess is the headgasket blew, and the coolant caused a cylinder to hydro lock, breaking the rod. Fun shit, right? 4.0 @ 206k RIP

A few things here and there. Still dreaming up stuff
Time for an engine swap. Cheaper than a new rig bud.

His modifications mention it's twin turboed. Just throwing that out there :)

Also, sorry to hear that OP. The 4.0 is a solid engine for sure, 206k is pretty early for a N/A variant.

I know, I'm guessing I had something problematic to begin with at this point. I serviced it really frequently, too, so it wasn't for a lack of maintenance or anything.

    None, it's the wife's.
Wished they would have put the 4.0 setup in the 3rd gen Tacomas.

I'm really warming up to the 3.5L honestly. Now that I've got an Oil change down, greased my propeller shafts, and let the engine break in some (and probably just me getting used to it more), the 3.5L isn't a bad engine. Hit the ECT button and it's downright lively.

Basically we are rating the software's nanny mode for EPA and MPG and not the engine itself. Hit ECT and it's game on.

My 4.0L in my wife's 4Runner feels more grunt from the beginning, but kinda goes flat about 3K in. The 3.5L finally wakes up about 3.5K in, and then roars. Turboing the 3.5L to give it some early grunt like the 4.0L would be a gamechanger.
