Why add wheel spacers?

Is because of wider tires or what?

 

It gives your ride a wider stance, and looks really cool.

 

Could be to fit larger tires without rubbing frame at full lock but I think most do it for the looks.

just buy the right wheels with the right offset and you dont need the spacers. just another part to fail and they do fail because they dont get torqued correctly etc.

Yep, and make the rig more stable offroad and onroad, but thats the trade off your right

 

Let's be honest, the vast majority of people adding spacers are doing it for looks. The guys looking for off road stability are typically running wheels in the offset they want.

 

Upper control arm clearance is the only functional reason. I ran them on my tacoma untill I could buy wheels with proper backspace.

 

I think spacers look silly. I want my tires under the fender flares to prevent rocks from being thrown down the side of my vehicle.

 

Everyone’s different. I like the wheels to be flush when they are tucked in it reminds me of a bodybuilder that always skips leg day. Haha it’s your truck though mod it the way you want as long as your happy with it that’s what counts.

Trying to revive an old thread here. Had anyone come across a 1/4 wheel spacer for 4 runners? I’ve tried 1 inch and 1/2 inch but it’s just a tad too much for my liking. 1/4 is what I’m going for to improve the look and give me a little more of a gap from my upper control arms. 1/4 inch will do the trick, but for the life of me I can’t find one that size with a 106mm center bore to fit a Toyota. Anyone know where I might be able to pick 4 up?

 

Friends don’t let friends use wheel spacers.

 

I don't think they make quarter inch because there's no way to bolt them to your hubs. They would literally just be like a washer that slips over your lugs and spaces your wheel away. Most quality spacers bolt to your hubs with their own set of lug nuts, and then your wheels bolt to studs on the spacers.

 

Can someone give me some insight on tire/wheel fitment? I traded my Tacoma for a 22 TRD off-road. I took the practically new 265/70/17 falken wildpeaks off my Tacoma before trading and I would like to put them on a set of pro wheels for the 4 runner. Will these tires fit on 17x7 pro wheels? Also, what offset should I shoot for to avoid rubbing? I prefer to not do any lift/leveling or any spacers, and I don’t really care about where tires end up in relation to the fenders, flush or less is fine. Sorry, I’m new to a 4 runner and have read many different things when it comes wheels and tires. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

They make a lot of 1/4 inch spacers, but I can’t find ones that for the 4 runner hub of 106mm. Even all of the 1/2 inch spacers are slide on and use the stock lug bolts. I tried 1/2 inch spacer (slide on) and they went on fine, just too wide for me. Once you get to 1 inch spacers they become bolt on due to not enough threads on the stock bolts. Everything I’ve read says if you have at least an inch of thread beyond the spacer your fine without bolt ons.

So their scratch free lifted trucks with big tires look even better in the super market parking lot.

I like the stock offroad wheels but the +15 offset on the SR5 and Offroad's are a bit too sunken in, IMO. I felt I could add a little more stability by increasing my track width with wheel spacers.

I'm also not a big fan of all the aftermarket wheels. When I purchased the truck (2018) almost every god damn wheel was black and had fake beadlocks. I was over that trend. it was near impossible to find wheels that fit without that shit. There are a few companies without them now, thank goodness.

 

They will fit. That was the 1st set of tires I had on my 4Runner.

I have a couple of friends with 2WD rigs that keep trying to get me to put spacers on. It looks cool, they say. But I off-road. And I’ve never been on a tight obstacle (or any for that matter) and thought, “if only my wheels stuck out into the rocks more.”

 

My thought on wheel spacers is that they are purely for cosmetic purposes. I mean, unless your going bigger than 2-3 inches. I can’t imagine that if you put on 2 inch spacers giving you 4 extra inches total of stance would do anything. I’ve done the Rubicon trail which is pretty Gnarly in my 05 4 runner SR5 with no spacers and I don’t think it would have helped me at all. My 2 cents.

 

You'd add wheel spacers because your perfume or cologne of choice is Bud Light.

 

Not for the Runner but I used 1/4" spacers from Bora to clear my shock reserviors on my Tacoma.

 

I just found 1/4 Bora spacers and they do have them for the 4 runner! Thanks! Can you tell me if the Bora 1/4 inch spacers are simply slide on or do you have to bolt them on and then bolt on your tires to the spacer studs?

 

They are hubcentric and bolt onto the OEM studs with their short nuts. Use loctite on those. Then you mount your wheel/tire on them with the OEM lugnuts. I used antisieze on the back of the spacer to keep it from sticking to the rotor.

 

Those are the stock size for our 4Runners. They should certainly fit, especially since you're using OEM wheels.

 

And it doesn’t require any sort of cutting of the factory/stock studs correct?
