Just bought a 2015 with 98k on the odometer. I thought I would spend the weekend replacing all the fluids, and would like a little advice from some that have done this already.

The front and rear diff require 75W-85. The toyota dealer does not sell the oil, and at the auto parts store, they have 75W-90, 75W-95 were the 2 I think I saw, but not 75W-85. I would assume that either would be fine, but I would like to get the right thing.

As for the transfer case, they call for straight 75W oil. The only one I could find of this was on ebay for about $75 a quart.(had a toyota lable on it) Needing 1.6 qts. I would have to buy $150 of this stuff. Is this really what you put in it? Or do you just get a multi-viscosity and call it a day.

I tend to replace fluids on a much more frequent interval than manufacturer recommends, so whatever I put in it won't stay more than a couple of years.

This is my first Toyota, so I do not have any experience with the maint. on them. I really want to make sure I put the right stuff in there. Thanks Phil

I've 75w-85 Redline Oil in both diffs and OEM 75w in transfer case but you can use same 75w85 oil in t/c if don't have access to rare OEM can of gold.

I used this in the TC but will likely use a cheaper 75w90 per Toyota. I change diff and TC fluid every 2-3 years. Cheap fluid and peace of mind.

Wow, I just read all of those threads. I should have known that asking about oil is right up there with politics at Thanksgiving dinner. I appreciate all your inputs. The one 75W-85 that walmart has is $38 a quart. Jeez, half of what the toyota stuff is, but since I will be taking it back out in a couple of years, i think I will go with the majority and get 75W-90 for both diffs and transfer. thanks all

Good call. No need to pay for the expensive stuff.

I've been using off the shelf equivalent for years without issues.

On diff and TC worry more about changing the fluid and getting what you can afford, rather than what brand you use. Changing your diff and TC fluid on time makes more of a difference than what brand you use (as long as you get the correct weight and GL)

I just hit 30K, just changed my engine oil. Now looking to change Transfer Case and both Front and Rear Differential fluid.

I have watched the Car care nut's video and he said 75W-90 GL-5 is ok on the Transfer case.

Can I also use the same on Front and Rear differentials??? The manual specifies 75W-85 GL-5, but they are hard to find.
    Thanks

Just ordered from Oh Really ! They are running a 20% discount (CHILLY20) for orders $150 and up. My total came up to $136.77.

I stand with Toyota fluids: oil, trans, diffs. T4R is way to valuable to go cheap on her. it make total sense when DIY cutting dealership or other auto service labor cost
