I just purchased a 2021 4Runner Nightshade... I thought it would be easy enough to add on some aftermarket/OEM running boards but that doesnt seem to be the case. Apparently the nightshades have special running board brackets to fit the extra body flares?

I wanted to purchase the board below (Part # PT925-89190) but apparently they dont fit given my VIN#. Various Dealership Parts Depts have told that only these will fit my vehicle (Part # PT93889100) but those clearly look like theyre for the TRD/Trail models. Any suggestions/recommendations are greatly appreciated.

sorry don't know part # but all the running boards are the same its the brackets that attaches them to the body of the car are different since you the limited night shade the brackets should be longer because of your rockers are different thats it, the limited rockers are longer than any other model or should i say you have plastic cover over your rockers hope this makes sense
there was a guy here that had the dealer instal running boards on his SR5 and the dealer had used the one from the limited and the hong like 2 to 3 inches farther down

Have you considered Nerfs? This is what I have on mine. Check out Nfab's site as they have a wide selection of options, types, purposes, etc.

^^^ I've got those on my Tacoma and they've been very nice. Good recommendation.

If I'm not mistaken, it has to do with the Limited/Nightshade specific brackets (assuming they mount the boards lower/further from the body?).

Take a read through this thread:

I reserved 2022 SR5 that showed it came with nightshade running boards before it arrived at dealer it wasn't listed anymore so I bought the boards from another Toyota dealer and they were installed today. After search tonight I now know why they are so low with a big gap. Can I buy shorter brackets and still use the same boards so they are higher? Part number? Thank you.

You definitely got the running boards for a Limited/Nightshade. Can you return those to the dealer for a set of SR5 boards? Should be the same boards, just shorter brackets. I'm not sure if Toyota sells just the brackets.

@glwood54 unfortunately i can't return. I had verified with them part PT925-89190 was compatible but first timer here didn't even consider the fact they may work but look wonky!

I have the nightshade running boards on mine. I believe the ones you identified in your initial post are correct.

Interestingly, I was just told that this is the part that fits my VIN. The part number is for Limited and Nightshade. My VIN is for an SR5 Premium, but that they sent the following part number that is described for a limited only.
    (00016-89880)

That looks like Limited part. This is how SR5/TRD Running board should look like (Pic from my SR5)

I understand this may be the case, but it would be an unwarranted hassle for a new purchase that was represented to be a fit for your vehicle.

My dad just bought a ‘22 Lunar Rock TRD Sport this past November and he asked me if I can help him find running boards. Is your 4Runner a ‘22? Can you confirm if the part number is PT925-89190?

I’ve been having a hard time finding which running boards he can install that does not require removing the trim underneath the doors.
