Venting is good. My post was just an observation and a suggestion. I’ve never been more happy than I am now. It’s been nearly 10 years since I’ve been shot at and I have a whole different perspective. I still carry concealed everywhere I go that it’s legal but when I travel internationally it’s such a relief not to feel like I have to. I’m right there with you feeling like this country has gone to shit morally and ethically but today I know I can do something about it. My health is far better than it ever was while I was working in that mess, even though I’m 10 years older. I run a multi million dollar corporation and have 46 employees, all of whom are happy in their roles. I volunteer in my community a lot and expect that from all of my employees who, like me, find it so satisfying. Police work was fun while it was fun. But that last 11 or so years just took the life out of me. Thankfully, I have that happy life back. I wish you all the best.

i’m kind of in the honey moon phase. Already know the politics. We deal with it a lot in Southern California, I also got put in the most disgusting part of town, so I get a lot of piss and shit on me, and the amount of OD’s we get is insane.

I had my knee snapped in the academy one month from graduation (ACL/MCL/femur/meniscus). I got to do a second academy with two weeks notice. I ran for the first time in a year a week before the academy started for time.

I live an hour from work, so I spend a lot of my time away from home. I have 4 kids, 4 dogs, and an amazing wife. We talk about it all the time. I hate what I deal with, but those couple calls a week (I average 20-30 calls a night) that make a difference are worth it.

I’ve seen my share of BS. Gotta love down town. I’m sure I’ll get more salty over the years, but I have always gone off of it is what you make of it. I came back from a pretty serious injury and did it again not prepared. It has zero to do with me. I just have an end goal. That was part of it.

I’m happy where I am right now. I will probably always do patrol. (SWAT and K9 are the end goal). I have zero desire to be any sort of leadership. I hate the politics and try to keep out of it as much as possible.

Honestly the five years I did in California was the worst for me. We just left there in July and not being there has been a breath of fresh(er) air. I don't see LE as a whole getting better, and I also see California LE getting exponentially worse. I think all my example rants were courtesy of the California Republic!! Good luck. Pay your PORAC dues. LDF saved me from some frothing hordes more than once.

Yes it was. I just don’t usually quote stuff. It just takes up screen space.

I learned two very important words: “non-compliant”. When your in the lion’s mouth, what do you do, if you struggle he clamps down harder.

Slightly off subject, anybody have any boot recommendations? I need a new pair of boots, I ordered some danners but they are taking forever to ship so I need something in the meantime. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Gotta be black and shine-able.

Shop around, you may find better deals than buying direct. Most comfortable boot I have ever worn. Bar none. I wear the tactical series. fwiw

i’ve been running danner’s since I was out of the academy. Absolutely love them. They will slow you down a little because they are HEAVY, but they are comfortable once broken in. Only time I noticed the weight was a cover now where I had to sprint up 4 flights of stairs lol.

I ordered the Stalworts. Supposedly just like the Acadia but lighter. We shall see if they ever show up.

I read this thread as the LEO thread but thought it meant Lower Earth Orbit. Working in Satellite telecommunications brought out the nerd in me. But thank you to those in this thread who see people at their worst and do what you can to make your town, city, state, and country a safer place. I can imagine it isn’t easy but my ride along didn’t show me all the crap you all deal with. Glad I didn’t get called upon after passing all the preliminaries.

exactly why I made this thread. We all have questions. I see more things in a month than most will see in a career. Chicago cops see more things in a day than I will in a career. We can all learn from each other…..even with boots.

danners were suggested by one of my TO’s I swallowed the $380 bill and will never own anything different.

The MSP is hiring, and they will issue you a new pair of Danners every 4 or 5 years. They are even running a lateral school next Spring.

Huge pay cut to do that. What's the cost of living like in Michigan? Seems like a starting wage of 50k for a trooper isn't very much.

I’ve been wearing the Danners for years. But one of my coworkers is turning me towards Merrell. They have a polished toe and one not polished.

There's a few LAPD guys I knew who lived in Michigan and worked in LA. They comped and traded shifts to work 8-12 days straight, slept at station, then were off rest of the month. Direct flights to LAX are cheap and the cost of living in Michigan made it not only feasible but smart money.

Probably wouldn't work the other way around though!

Boots: Merrell Moab duty boots (not shineable though)...

Finally got ahold of Danner. They are not drop shipping boots and the boots I ordered are on a 3-6 month backorder. I ended up getting a pair of Viktos Strife's. Seem like solid boots and will get me by until my Danners show up.IMG_20211114_174943827.jpg

danners are a life changer. Heavy as hell, but comfortable for those 11-80

I would imagine Michigan, especially the UP & Northern LP, would have lower cost of living then anything on the West Coast.

The MSP also gives a pretty good raise after your first year. Many worksites also have take home cars.

You are also an employee from day one in training, and about the only thing you have to provide is your skivvies.

I guess I'll contribute something other than sheer hate to this thread. Anybody need these items? If so just cover the cost of shipping and they're yours. Safariland open top triple mag case for Glock 9 or 40, and Safariland open top OC spray Case for mk4 cans. Both are basket weave. The mace case has a little bit of wear on the bottom but perfectly serviceable. I went to double mag and smaller OC since I'm trying to be a minimalist. Fits in an office chair better.

I dunno about going to a double mag pouch. You can NEVER have too much ammo. Too much is almost enough, as we used to say. Not unless you go to two double pouches. Then you have 4 mags, should you ever need them.

I know, there's cops who never draw their weapon, other than the range, maybe. That's great, but if I carry a weapon, I, personally, presume I am going to draw and use it sometime. I want Too Much ammo if I do.

    Just my experience, is all.
