New to the community, Searching for a 4Runner.

Hello to all! I'm excited to be back to the T4R world. My first was a '97 SR5 that I sold in 2013 with 265K on it, what a beast she was. It's time for a new to me vehicle and I've got my eye on a couple 2010 Trail models. I'd love a 2014+ Trail Premium but my budget dictates something near $25K.

I can't wait to get one and start building her up a bit. I plan on spending most of my summers on the mountain trails/passes of Colorado.

Any tips or advice on what to look for/look out for are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Buy another 3rd Gen and have money left over for MODS!

 

Probably find a clean 3rd gen with, 4x4 and locker with 3.4L for around 8K. Then you got like 17k for MODS!

 

I appreciate the insight And if it was just going to be my off-roading machine I wouldn't hesitate. But this will be my primary vehicle and need something that has enough creature comforts that will keep my wifey happy too.

I look back at it and wish I would have never sold my '97. Should have kept it and did exactly what you suggested!

looks like he's had it listed on another site for about a month and has come down $1000 from the original price.

 

Alright alright you said the magic word..... "Wife" ugh. So yeah I think you be alright with the next Gens, they are all solid and more roomy, If i didn't pick up a Tacoma id went with a 4th Gen myself. I haven't hear any critical issues out of the 4th or 5th gen thats a deal braker just go for what you want to use it for (4x4,auto,ect) and just look for the usual when getting a use car...leaks, previous maintenance and history.

I bought my 2k4R in 2008 for $10k & just recently passed $15k in upgrades & accessories.

There are distinct advantages in not buying brand new, like buying a 1 owner used, low mileage, dropping $15+k into it & still come in under MSRP for a new one. Except for the color, this is what I started out with:



The most recent & expensive mod was putting on a TRD 2nd generation 5VZ-FE supercharger with snorkel intake & S. African desert pre-cleaner, ~$5k.
