What size Duratracs to avoid rubbing?

Hey guys, I just wanted to ask a quick question. I have the stock limited rims on my 4runner. I have been doing some research on some new tires to get and I really have grown fond on the Goodyear duratrac tires. I can't seem to figure out what size tires I would need to fit on my 4runner. I do not have a lift kit yet but that will come later. I do not want them to rub on my wheel well. Not sure if I should invest in some smaller rims and some bigger tires. Like 17" rims. I would like to just put some on the rims I have but not sure of the size. If you guys have any information on this it would be greatly appreciated.

 

Are you sticking to stock size?? Your current tires have the size marked on them. Stock limited uses 245/60R20 I believe. Or are you seeing what’s the biggest tire you can use without rubbing?

 

Yes I was going to. And yes that is the size of my tires now. I know the duratracs are more beefy and thought that the same size may cause me issues with rubbing

 

As long as you stick to the same size you shouldn’t have any issues. They have a beefier tread but it shouldn’t make a difference at stock size.

 

Alright thank you for your input. Everywhere I look the duratracs do not come in 245/60R20 size.

 

Have you thought of upgrading to 17in wheels?

Maybe 17in TRD Offroad wheels or TRD Pro wheels with 265/70R17 tires?

Gy Duratrac is available in size 265/70R17. Noise level is fraction higher than KO2 & Wildpeaks.

I have a little lift on my Limited and allowed me run 285/70R17 tires on 17in TRD Offroad wheels.

I have thought of going to a 17" rim in order to make these tires work. I was on GY website and I did see that size for the 17" rims. I will do a little more research and narrow it down. Thanks for the info.

 

Do you guys think this set up would work with no lift on my rig? Hard to figure out if it will rub or not. Kmeeg I really like that video you posted to this thread. Very nice simple mod.

 

Got my new shoes on my rig. Fit great with just minor rubbing going in reverse. Not too concerned. Went 17x8 rims with duratrac tires 265 70 r17.

They are a 15 offset

 

That looks soo good. I bet you love the sidewall gain. Very happy that you picked the right direction. Not looking at 22in or 24in BS.
Limited should not come with stupid 20in from factory. Its not a minivan..!!! (or for the people who don't understand this inches thing. 32in / 33in / 35in.. they are tire sizes...!! Not the size of the e'ffing rim..!!)

If you ever worry about the rubbing that trimming I showed on the Limited video is really easy and no one can find out how the fender liner is pushed.

Would you also consider removing the running board? Just try it one side, I bet you will looove the new look.

(Only downside I'm little worried about door dings on public parking without a running board sticking out)

 

That is an interesting thought. It never even crossed my mind. When I get the time I will try it, take a picture and get some feedback. Honestly I only use the running board to wash it and put stuff on my roof rack.

But you watch, I'll take them off and then for some unforseen reason I will need them haha.

Yep, thats the spot I got rubbing with 285s + lift.

BTW did you buy the tires from Discount tire? If so don't forget to fill the form for the Visa gift card.

 

I got them at Canadian Tire. But they were an amazing deal. 240 a tire as opposed to 358 normal price.

New owner 2021 SR5 premium. New tires on Thursday and I picked Duratracs 265/70/17. This is my actual factory size. Reading some comments should I expect some rubbing due to the square shoulders even though is the same size. Thanks!

 

If the rims are 17x8" then yes. Just a bit. I posted a picture in this thread. Only in reverse though.

I'm perplexed by there 255 75 17. It's listed as an SL but it's tire pressure and load range reads more like a c load..... I'm always so lost looking at tires

 

That looks AMAZING! I love seeing Limiteds that are made off-road capable! How you liking the Duratracs so far? They're one of the tires at the top of my list....

 

They are amazing. Everything I wanted in the look I was going for. Besides the minor rubbing they perform well in all aspects. The rain was my main concern and have had no issues yet.

Not to mention all the compliments I get on them reassures me I made the right choice in rim and tire.

 

I went with the Duratracs in 255/75/17 mounted on OEM SR5 wheels (17x7"). Maximum air pressure on the sidewall is 51 PSI. I am running 38 PSI right now. So far I am pleased with the ride.

 

Don't worry there are so many members in here to help with almost any questions. I felt the same way when I started looking. I am in the exact same boat as Gstick. Mine say the same 51psi but I am running mine at 42-44psi with no issues

 

Any rubbing with stock suspension and wheels with the 255/75R17?

I’m thinking about going with that size as they are about 1/2” thinner in width from the stock 265. With the slushy roads we get up here, thinner is better to avoid hydroplaning.

 

My winter tires are the same size as the durotracs I bought. I would think there would be no rubbing at all with the 255/75/R17. But hopefully Gstick will give you the concrete answer.

Actually, I believe that the 255/75/17 are 1" narrower & 1/2" taller than the OEM 265/70/17's. That is why I mounted them on SR5 wheels, for the skinnier tire in winter driving.
