I talked with the shop today, and the guy said honestly, it could go either way, its gonna be close because market value is so high. I got lucky and my dealership called with an off-road premium in gray thats coming dec 1st. They mark up 3k. I checked the other 3 Toyota dealerships near me and they all are doing 3k. So the price is 48k instead of 45. I don’t want the premium because I hate the leather and don’t want a sun roof, but beggars can’t be choosers at this point.

The OR premium only has moon roof as an add on, although almost all seem to be coming with it.

Have they started perforating the leather yet or is it still one solid piece of sweat inducing slop cloth?

So sorry that happened and glad all are okay.
If the insurance companies find the other person at fault, make HIS insurance find a replacement truck no matter the cost. I would say to hold off accepting payment from your insurance company, and demand a replacement from his insurance that is equal or better than your truck. I have done this in the past and it worked for me.

It’s not perforated on my 2021 but I live in the Houston area and haven’t experienced the sweat you’re referring to through my first full summer. It’s not Katzkin but it’s not bad. In a perfect world I would get cloth and immediately replace it with Katzkin but it’s hard to justify with it like it is. Good luck finding something you like. I absolutely love my SR5P, including the sunroof.

Wait for the carrier to declare a total loss. As previously mentioned by an earlier post, because of increased values of used 4R's, it may be more economically feasible for the truck to be repaired than pay a total loss. My recent experience involved a 2016 XP that was obviously totaled but the decision to declare is up to the insurance company whose decision is controlled by individual state insurance laws and regulations regarding costs of repairs and the value of the vehicle immediately before the damage. In the event of a statutory total loss, my Georgia policy gave the carrier the right to pay actual cash value or replace the vehicle with a suitable replacement. The first thing I did was have a man with 45 years in the used car sales business give me an opinion based upon his experience and NADA's national average. OTHOH, the insurance company based value on 7 vehicles within a 200 mile radius of my home. We were $2000 apart in valuations BUT the carrier's valuation was $3000 more than what I paid for it used two years ago and I had put 30,000 miles on it. It was considered low mileage because it was under 60,000 miles total. As the driver at fault's coverage was minimal, I made the claim on my collision coverage with $500 deductible which I will eventually recover. It made more sense for me to buy a 2022 OR model which I found at a dealership 120 miles from home than buy a used one as the used one would have also increased in value while the new one was at MSRP. It was the only one available suitable for my needs within 200 miles. I bought it 4 days after the wreck. I settled against my carrier within 2 weeks and due to the increase of value because of the scarcity of used vehicles, I was paid an amount within $10,000 of the cost plus taxes of the 2022 OR. I questioned the carrier's appraisal of similar vehicles used in comparison because who knows how they were maintained or whether or not they had had been wrecked and repaired. Adhering to the maxim of pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered, I took the offer by the carrier as they wouldn't budge from their valuation service's 20 page valuation report. The last thing I wanted was for the carrier to find a suitable replacement which didn't mean "new", but a "used" vehicle. In the end, I wasn't screwed by my carrier despite us not agreeing to valuation. Gil

Once they give you a number and it is a total loss, ask the insurer for the full valuation report. CCC One did the report on mine. Chances are it will be either this company or a similar one that will do the report. You can go online and obtain CarFax reports to determine whether or no a comparison vehicle was previously wrecked (usually found in CarFax report). It may be worth your while to pay for the $99 six searches option rather than the individual searches at $33@. It all depends on how far apart you are in valuation whether to do this or not. Here's another consideration, according to the below website, a third party claim in CT (you against the driver at fault's carrier) doesn't require title transfer's applicable taxes to be paid by the at fault driver's carrier. A claim against your insurer, however, does. Check with a lawyer to see if the info in the link is still accurate.

PS: I would pay extra not to have a damn hole in my roof (moon roof) that will eventually leak.

So they told me today that its a repairable vehicle. $13,800 dollars in damage apparently is less than its worth. I went on KBB and my 4Runner with 110k supposedly has a trade in value of 27-29k. I don’t know how. I really wanted them to total it. Driving around with all those replaced airbags doesn’t really give me the warm and fuzzies. But it is what it is I guess. I suppose they can still find damage and I’ll be going back myself to look at the suspension. They will be sending me an itemized list of parts shortly.

I know. I have one that I normally use, but the last time I was there ( I slid in snow into a chain link fence and needed a new bumper) I noticed they faded the paint badly and the clear coat delaminates after a year. I guess in CT if I use the INS shop, it’s warranties for life. It also just so happens that the shop its at is very highly rated. I’m leaning to have them do the work, and then trading it in.

My eldest, one month into driving, pulled into a parking spot and decided the gas pedal was better than the brake. She hungry hungry hippo’d the CRV. (Front went up into the air and then slammed down on the sidewalk). All air bags deployed. For some reason they decided to repair it and said there was only ~8k in damage. After over a month in the shop the final bill hit just under ~20k as they kept finding problems and the fix was more than the value of the car.

trade in is a great plan, for sure

Diminished value if your state allows it. You'll have to fight for it and may even need to pay for an appraisal out of pocket, but it should be worth it in the end.

Keep good photos and list of repairs so that if and when you decide to trade or sell you can show extent of damage as CarFax report will only show repairs in general terms. Most states consider a vehicle totaled when the ACV (actual cash value RETAIL not trade-in) immediately before the wreck is less than or equal to salvage value plus repairs costs. Good point above about entitlement to diminished value. When you sell, expect to be putzed around about damaged goods, but if you have good photos and repair list, it will show no serious damage to your truck. Gil
This is what a totaled 4Runner looks like. Mine on Sept. 4, 2021. In addition to frontal damage including undercarriage and driver's side suspension, axle, multiple roll overs damaged every sheet metal surface, but I wasn't injured. My passenger received some injuries, but nothing life threatening. Cuts, bruises, and concussed. I didn't have a scratch.

There are no set rules for insurance. My wife rolled our Jeep (worth $4900 blue book) and Farmers paid the local shop $6000 to fix it. I am no longer with Farmers because I won't support that kind of collusion. My niece hit a tree with her 10 year old CRV, valued at $7000, and the insurance company totaled it and paid out $8400.

My wife rolled her low mileage 2004 CRV in 2015 and the insurance paid out $8400. My 92 was hit in the rear by a F250 back in 1996 causing $9500 in damage. I found out later that they used off market parts and some parts off a donor vehicle to put mine back together. The front bumper didn't line up properly but the insurance company, the guy who hit me, wouldn't fix it. 3 years later a guy backed into me and I got an OEM bumper put in. Never had an issue afterwards. I still have the vehicle. I am surprised they didn't total yours just due to the airbags going off.

I'm confused by this. On the configurator it looks like that off road premium plus package is offered on premium models that already have softex, so why are they listing softex as part of an option package?

More vinyl! Softex seats is the main thing that kept me from wanting the premium package in the first place.

I've had several Toyotas with moon roofs. They don't leak. My '85 Supra, after 20 years and 200K+ miles, my '03 4Runner with 257K miles, both of which lived outside, in Wisconsin, and I took shitty care of them. I ran the 4Runner through the touchless car-wash regularly. Not a drop.

My '86 MR2 with T-tops? Different story.

If it's about head room, I get it. But, Toyota knows how to make a moon roof that doesn't leak.
