Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. So here's the deal. Right now I am leasing a 2014 Toyota Venza which is actually a great car. The end of the lease is coming in February.

I really want a 2016 Toyota 4Runner Limited but I'm nervous about a couple of things. First, I'm worried about my wife driving it. Right now she drives a Nissan Armada which is a big car in its own right because she has the kids with her all the time. But is this Toyota going to be too rough a ride for her? I test drove it before and it wasn't that bad at all to me but it's obviously not gonna ride like a car either. Also when I drove it on the highway it took a little time to get the rpm's up there. Does anyone who owns the car feel like it's actually a little unsafe to merge on the highway?

Another thing is my wife if 5'5'' and I remember it being high to get in. Would I need running boards which will add to the weight and might make it slower?

I really don't plan to go off road but this truck just impresses me so much. First, they last forever which is a tribute to Toyota (even though we're leasing again). But when I sat in it, I just kept thinking to myself how comfortable it is. The design is very simple and laid out very nicely. Everything is right where you need it to be. I thought the seats were extremely comfortable and supportive. I actually loved driving it because it felt good to be that high kinda the same way I feel in the Armada. But the Toyota handled really well, not too bumpy for me. And lastly, I just REALLY love how this truck looks!!

But do I have a reason to be concerned with the above questions?

    Welcome

As for your questions the 4runner is a great truck, and i own a 2016 triail. I dont think there is any problem with the accleration i live on a road with 70+ mph i have to get on with out a light and step on it! But it will get up there you just have to time it right, since the truck it geared for towing. I have running boards on mine for my girlfriend so she can getbin and out espically since i am planning on lifting, but they will not slow down your truck, the pratically wheigh nothing. Also i read my owners manual awhile back and i think Limiteds already come with running boards that are automatic, but it could be an extra but either way auto or not will be peefectly fine. I am a short person at 5'7 and i can get in just fine. For the ride it is very smooth compared to a Tacoma with the same shocks, so it was exclant for me, but that is my opinion and compared to what i drove before.

I changed some lights, tires and tinted windows...mind blowing huh
I have a trail premium and my dad has a Limited both purchased in the last few months.

His limited has nicer seats, I love the ventilated leather he has, I'm actually thinking of finding a set for mine. His has the automatic running boards, but be careful as there are a few different option sets the limited can have and it might not be on there for some reason, but they are pretty sweet. Regarding the ride, we agree that mine rides a little softer but they both ride nicely, but being brand new his might soften a bit as our comparison time was the ride home from the dealer when he bought it. The 4runner isn't going to win a drag race but if you put your foot in it the thing will go pretty well. What color are you thinking of going with?

I purchased the 2016 TRD Pro and my father-in-law bought the 2016 Limited. Both ride beautifully for a 4X4 truck based platform. Build quality and reliability are known to exceed the Nissan trucks and specifically the Armada (which actually dragged down Nissan's overall quality ratings). Running boards on the limited helps my mother-in-law get in and I think she's closer to 5' tall. We both love the truck. I went wheeling over the weekend and never had to put it in 4 wheel. These trucks are quite competent in so many situations.

I'm 84, Betty 69, and our '16 4R Trail, fitted with Goodyear Duratracs, is our only ride. It handles everything we throw at it and just took us on a 4 day trip across the British Columbia mountains on Hwy 3 to Omak, Washington, and home via US 20 through the Washington mountains, climbing to 5500' in Washington Pass. No problem with lack of power, or comfort. Betty is 5'6" so we do have running boards and they are a help for her at times. - Ted
