Just bought a 2003 T4R SR5 V8

I've been a long time member of Tacomaworld and had a pretty sweet rig a year ago, now I just picked up this beauty. I got a great deal on it and it is in great shape! Are there anymore Imperial Jade Mica's on here?

Its hard for me to tell, but is imperial jade a dark green? it looks like the timberland mica on my tacoma

 

Yes, there are a lot of 3rd Gen's in this color but not too many in 03.

 

Very cool. now that you mention it, i dont think ive ever seen a 4th gen in that color. Did you get a 4x4? And how you liking the v8 so far? Im looking into getting a 05-09 v8 in the near future. Need more power than my 4cyl tacoma has to offer

 

I love it! I did get a 4x4. I had a V6 Tacoma and it was nice but this V8 is smooth and all the reviews about it are great! So I am very happy with this purchase!

 

Looks great man, I'm back in 4Runner game around a month or so ago with an 03 v8 Runner myself, doing a build thread on t4r.org but not on here, but I can access this site at work and can't hit the other one, so may make one here as well, but been a member over there for around 13 years lol. Love the color and looking forward to the build.

 

I just checked your build out on T4R and responded to it. Are you mounting the factory rear Tacoma suspension on the 4 Runner? Isn't the cylinder size different?

 

yeap, that's how I broke my cheap bench vise:/ all you have to do is use a 26mm socket and a 19mm socket and press the Tacoma bushings out then press in the new bushings - have the part numbers somewhere on my build. Cost 7 bucks to use the rear taco shocks, and they add a full 2" of travel Was a no-brainer for me as the Taco suspension I got has 6300 miles on it Looks brand new, just using top spacer for front, and daystar spacer for rear, may end up using different rear springs but time will tell on that

 

Where's the write up for this?

 

All over took me a while to find it but once I did found all over: you just need these bushings to go in the rear

Awesome man, if you need help just hit me up - I'm using a 19mm and a 32mm as that's all I have and it was working fine till my cheap bench vise busted, I will probably press the rest out with my balljoint tool and have them ready for when I can afford the alignment. I have also really been considering an at home alignment but don't really have the time LOL, Firestone has the lifetime alignment for 179 now and I plan on keep this thing for a long time, so may just do that. I want to ask them if I solid axle swap it if they will still align it, I know I can get it done on the existing components after lift, then go back and change balljoints, upper A-Arms etc and still be covered which speeds up me installing the lift My wife is a penny pincher and really good with budget stuff, otherwise I would have already put the lift in, got the alignment, ordered rims and tires, and probably ordered headers, SAP delete/bypass, and welded in a new muffler lol. Only reason I have the lift and all the stuff I have done to mine so far is keen eye on craigslist and sold a few things left over from my BMW. If I wasn't trying to finish this tattoo the lift would be on the first week I had it as well, but tattoo is lifetime so want it to stay fresh in my artist mind so getting in every 3weeks to a month is a priority and is 3-400 evrytime I go in for the color sessions. I probably have 2-3 3-4 hour sessions left as well.

going to be sad when you get your lift in before me FYI, my front spacers were 29 bucks the rear bushing were 7 bucks, the daystart 1.5" for the rear was 27 bucks and I scored the 6300 miles Tacoma suspension for 75 bucks

If I don't like the stance when done will be getting FJ springs to go with the daystar in the rear and have found a few sets for as cheap as 30 bucks locally I'm also having way better luck finding 305's and 315's used than 285's or 255/80's so may end up doing the Roger Brown 1.5" bodylift to fit 35's with a lot of trimming over the 285's if I have to go with used tires. There are a set of 70% AT KO's local for 180 bucks right now in 315/70 but not sure about going that big before bodylift...

Found a Groupon for a cheap 1yr alignment - so it's done

I will tell you front went fairly easy - but the rear was a nitemare, the lift was simple, but my rear shocks were frozen on.... The rear bushings that you ordered will make sure that we both don't have that problem again

Since you have the same setup - this is Taco front with 2.5" top spacer, and a 1.5" daystar rear lift with the Taco rear shocks.

Rides great, I will be getting a diff drop as I'm full time 4wd and I'm planning on taking swaybar back off, way to much droop for my comfort without swaybar. Have to replace CV's now, well 1 needs replacement, one needs the "clamp" trick done to it

I'm at 37 front and rear almost exactly at all 4 corners The rear passenger is like 1/2 an inch higher but pretty sure that will go away This is still on stock tires as well, Love it man

 

That looks awesome!! I'm so jealous! My lady is making me hold off right now! UGH!!! Maybe I can show her yours and she'll let me do it. I have everything but the rear! Maybe she'll let me buy that 1.5" spacer.. that doesn't sound like a bad price.

 

Alignment was done this afternoon, went to work early and left early to get it done. Was WAY out but couldn't tell by how it drove, it's spot on now, caster is a little off but honeslty it was still in specs, drives like a dream

Mods are done for a bit for me unfortuantely. Muffler maybe as I can weld it in, and may go with a cheaper one now and over time change out, plan on headers and modular X pipe setup and duals out the rear behind both tires but that's low on the priority list. FYI, did alot of driving today and still getting 19.1, has me considering staying narrow when I buy tires, just gong with the 255/80's or a 275/75 if I can find some, I had already did a ton of research and the P rated Falken Wildpeak AT3's are 46lbs in 285/70 so was leaning towards those or the Fierce Attitude MT's are 51lbs. But now to research different tires sizes, i really just want the extra height and to stay lighter if possible, here in Florida the narrow tires do really well in the mud, and airing down for the sand works great as well.

I lucked out though, How I acquired all of my stuff, I have some Dirt King UCA's from my previous truck, a front RevTek Spacer lift from something I bought years ago and didn't need those, and then a buddy of mine on the Tacoma Forum had his 30K miles TRD Off Road Suspension laying around and said if I drove down to pick them up, I could have them! So as far as money spent on my lift, Gas and $35 for those rear spacers you got.

I really like the Fierce Attitude but I really don't care about MPG.. Have you looked in to any off brand AT's?

Had a marathon day on mine yesterday - did a ton of crap to it - just wanted to follow up with you as I know you had a lot of parts from other builds and leftover, so sure it's moving along nicely now - Just need pic's

 

I do need to grab some pictures, I've just been so busy lately. I decided not to put my UCA's on due to rust and corrosion. It was hard enough to do the lift on the front end. It looks good though, my only problem is my rear end springs are sagging a little bit so i'm in search of FJ springs now.

yeah I almost bought those same ones - there was a 100 dollar off coupon for discount tire direct and they were 645 shipped to my door, I passed and am kinda glad as I thnk I'm going to go with a 285/75 or a 315/70 as I want the 34-35" tire now

Quick update!

So my rear end wasn't sitting too level and the whole vehicle had a bouncy ride with the factory coils (180k + miles on rear springs) so I started looking for some factory FJ coils. Nobody had them by the time I needed them. So I went on Rock Auto and found the factory rear coils for an '07 FJ Cruiser by MOOG suspension for $38 for a set! Put those on and everything has improved dramatically! After that, My tires showed up and now for the installed pics!!!
