When I purchased my 21 venture back in June, I tried to work a leveling kit/ lift into the purchase and they would not touch it with a 10 foot pole. They said they didn’t want to be liable for changing the overall performance of the vehicle..

Dealers take a cheap shit $2500 lift, install it poorly, then charge you $15,000 for it.

I thought about it, and it's really not fair or relevant posting what we paid several years ago for our 4Runners.

Today is a much more difficult economical climate due to supply and demand issues.

I guess all one can do at this time is bite the bullet or wait out the economic storm.

    Maybe, maybe not.

I'm not seeing a lot of posts where dealerships messed up the suspension install.

Would they charge more for the service? Probably, but I'm betting it would be done more consistently than the average DIY.

My experience with the mechanics at my dealership has been positive and I look things over afterwards with a critical eye.

Not entirely correct. Local dealer here outsources the work to Off Road Warehouse. You get a one year warranty on the work they performed. Yes it’s spacers and bigger tires and yes you overpay for it but at least it’s done by someone who knows what they are doing.

As stated earlier in this thread, you’re paying a markup for the vehicle regardless due to market conditions and limited inventory.

You have to stop assuming that California is an accurate representation of the rest of the world.

Most dealers pay techs who have no idea what they’re doing and are in one hell of a rush and do the job half assed.

I have lots of experience with dealer installed lifts in the southeast, like the “FJ crawler” package which was essentially the cheapest old man emu lift kit, an ARB bumper, TRD rock rails, at a $15,000 markup, and CO dealers installing toytec lifts on their trucks along with TRD pro front ends while failing to install new upper control arms or address rubbing. A friend of mine from work bought one of these monstrosities and found out they didn’t properly torque anything.

And a one year warranty that is not transferable to other dealers which the dealer may not even honor if something serious is damaged by the lift isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.

Just about every dealer installed lift that I have seen is an absolute nightmare because it takes time and money to do it right.

LOL. Despite being an only child I’m well aware I’m not the center of the world. Just relaying what’s happening in So Cal.
