What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

As long as you don't block the camera, it's all good.

The relo kit consists of a camera and wire to get it back to the head unit.

How did you wire it? Did you run the cables through the inside of the wing there or just along the outside? Considering something similar for an anytime camera too

 

Under the driver side head liner out one of the existing holes for the back wiper motor (not the bolts but one of the plastic rivet, shown in picture) and just for shits and giggles I put a rubber hose around the camera wire so it doesn't get cut in time.. then hot glue the hose in place. Reinstall the wing, close the window before you tape on the camera so the window will close. Lot of work but came out nice and no wires are visible.

 

Love it! Literally about to do the same exact thing(just waiting for the truck to arrive). Already bought the 285's, and Westcott's lift. Held off on the Spidertrax only because I wasn't sure if I really want to cut up a new truck yet to avoid the rubbing. I'd be interested to see the end product of your trimming if you wouldn't mind sharing when you get it done!

 

How did you black out the wheels on the center ? Plasti dip?

 

Great choice! Will get some pics in on the trimming this evening. I basically pushed the fender liner forward a bit, then took a dremel to the bumper to have it flush with the pushed fender liner. Pretty subtle, but no rubbing! Also removed the front mud flap.

 

Yep, good ol' plastidip. The matte matches the wheel pretty flawlessly

More than a little less than a lot lol. I provided picked out and ordered the material they wrapped it for 1800.00

 

I really really dislike FedEx they always find some way to muck something up. Yesterday the ladder for the rtt got delivered to my house and I watched the FedEx guy basically Hail Mary it from half way up the drive to the front porch then today I go to the freight depo to get the actual tent and this shit.

they gave me the option to refuse it or keep it. They did notate on the shipping slip that it was damaged at time of pickup free spirit was great they said take it home and check it outside of the box and if it’s damaged we will get it back and get a new one out. It’s in some serious thick foam encasing and I don’t see any damage to the foam so hopefully in about 30 minutes I’ll know for sure.

 

I want and need that! Looks so sexy, sexy in a manly way.

 

Here are a few pics. I cut from the point on the first pic, to the point on the second.

In the first pic, my tape started at that bend in the fender. Then I took the tape down under the bumper to the corner of the little square indentation.

The second pic shows the cut went right diagonal through the little square indentation under the bumper. Literally took the tape to the corner of that little square. I may do some more sanding with the dremel to make the fender line on the last pic look more uniform.

Overall I’m very pleased. I can turn full lock either way, forward and reverse. Mind you I have 1.25” spacers, so not sure this will be needed if you don’t run spacers.

Now… if I could only find a forum friend in PA willing to do my bumper cut for my C4 Lo Pro…. Your cut looks pristine, I don’t trust myself to not make a mess of it.

 

Forgot to add, I tape after initial cut to make sure my sanding is straight.

Well glad to report that free spirit definitely packed this thing well. About 1.5-2” of foam all the way around and top and bottom so luckily absolutely no damage. Mounting it on the other hand that ain’t happening. I need a really long 13mm wrench or the tiniest hands possibly to get between the gobi bars. I don’t even want to think what it would be like with a prinsu. Luckily my gobi bars are removable so I marked the tent where the rear bar goes and will take it off tomorrow flip it upside down and mount that bar then back on the truck and good to go.

hood does not need to be up for this install lol. I was showing my neighbor how I have my dual battery setup so he could get some ideas


Also the roof overhang is exaggerated here. The tent was not even side to side. It does have some over hang about 4.5-5” on each side though off the gobi rack.

 

Before you start installing, consider getting something like the Prinsu Tent Mount Feet. And get the long ass ratcheting wrenches from Harbor Freight. You may still want an extension.

Which model Free Spirit RTT did you get? I like those hard top tents.

 

Prinsu feet won’t load work for the load bars on the gobi.

 

Sue What details do you need? It’s 3m vinyl custom printed. The free spirit is the odyssey 55” we were torn between it and the mt hood by cvt. The ultimate factor came down to three things.

1. Weight cvt mt hood 56” was 214lbs (on their site) and the FSR is 154.

2. Price I grabbed the FSR for 2495.00 otd shipped. The CVT Mt hood was 3495 plus tax plus shipping (we have a cvt near us in Chattanooga so I could have saved on shipping but still over 1k more after tax).

3. load rating and roof rating. The cvt mt hood has a weight capacity of 650# and the roof rack can safely handle 100lbs (some have definitely exceeded that and been fine). The FSR has a weight capacity of 750# and can safely handle 250+ lbs on the roof.

there were other things that made me choose this tent over the cvt such as the way it opens and wind deflection but ultimately they are both really really solid tents I’ve seen both in person mine and a buddy has the cvt mt hood. They are both very solid tents.

 

Whether they do or don't isn't the point. Lift the tent off the rack and it will be easier to work with.

 

Installed a shift knob that better matches the ORP interior.

I like those too, but another option is the Ellis Precision shift knobs. They are sweet

No pictures, but I removed my RCI Metalworks skids, and greased the prop shaft. Changed the engine air filter.
This weekend will be oil and transmission fluid changes.
And in the process, I apparently cured my growling/rumbling noise from another thread; It must have been one of the plate bolts had become just slightly loose.
