    Hi all,

just in the past week when I am driving around with my sun roof in the tilted up position (whatever it is called) something has started rattling up there and it is pretty loud.

Sounds like a loose bolt or something, but I opened it fully, and also look when it is tilted up and can't see anything to tighten that isn't tight.

    Any suggestions?

    T

My 2018 TRD does the same in tilt position but not very loud. Is sounds like noise is produced laterally vs up/down. It's a momentary sound, not all the time, mostly road bumps going into turns seems to cause it.

yup. same as mine. I have a 2017 SR5. bumps only, and I can't tell where the noise is coming from but maybe the front.

When you have you sun roofs in the tilted position, where is the cover? Do you only open it part way or push it all the way back? You may find that in any position past roughly half way, there is just enough room between the headliner and the sunroof internals for it to rattle. Next time you hear it see if it doesnt go away by pressing up in the headliner right where the cover goes into it. Just a thought

    My SR5P rattles when tilted.

All 4Runners have it. I had the issue on both of mine. Take it in to the dealer. They remove the black plastic accordion thing and put in deadener. Issue resolved.

    Wolfman,
Do you have a part number for the piece they install?

I don't think there is an actual part number. I had the issue on my 19 and 20 4Runners. I had two different dealerships repair the issue. First time around was a massive headache. You have to tell them the issue and let them know its something behind that black plastic piece that hides the internals. They can pull that piece down and will hear it much easier. Its from the passenger side, but they will apply the fix on both sides. They didn't want to do anything about it since all the 4Runners they had on the lot, for repair, and new for sale, were exhibiting the same noises.
