This has probably been asked already, but I'm buying a 5th gen 4runner (possibly 4th gen if its a good deal, can only afford older than 2014) in the next few days. The ones I'm looking at are ranging 2010-2014 with a few exceptions, between 60k-100k miles, and $25k-$30k. Also, I could only find a couple in my state (Illinois).

if you could include how many miles it had and model year that would be great.

I have a 2016 SR5 with 33k miles on it when I bought it. I paid $32k from Toyota dealer.
Hope that helps as a reference.

I looked at a '21 4WD Limited Edition with 14K miles on it...hard highway miles...the original owner bought in February and then sold back to the same dealer 6 months later. They wanted 47K for it. I just decided wait for a new one. The used car market is bananas right now

Yes, they are crazy. Here is a prime example. I bought my wife a ‘20 blizzard pearl limited ( nov of ‘19 ) with 19k miles. Had all the tan interior with chrome accents ect. Paid it off in marchish of ‘20. Called my dealer to humor me on trade in for it because she wanted a blizzard nightshade. Gave me $45,500 sight unseen ( just traded a taco for a tundra earlier this year and have been very good to us ). Worked the numbers the best i could considering inventory. Msrp was $48k with dealer add ons put it at $53k and change. I said no dealer add ons. Funny thing was they said “that weekend” they were running a deal at the dealership that if you bought a new vehicle, they were giving you a steak dinner for 2 and a free flatscreen TV. Never inquired about size/brand ect BUT I Did say was, don’t know the “value” of the 2 but I’m not interested. What I will do is have you take the value off msrp. I just wanted to use my miles credit card to pay the difference and drive off with the new truck. The best I could do on the new truck was 47,600 plus ttl. Now my wife has a ‘21 blizzard pearl nightshade edition with 6 miles ( at the time of purchase ).

for us this made sense that they paid us to drive her old truck and she has what she wants. Also, with inventory being unknown and won’t buy a first year of a new body style, this will keep her good for a little while.

Moral of story, I would buy a new instead of used because us the prices are stupid. Also, it helped that we owned the ‘20 outright.
Toyota Dallas has our ‘20 limited w/19k miles listed for $47 and change

How did you manage to find that? I’m assuming it wasn’t from a dealer because I’m seeing 2014s with 70k miles for $29k rn.

This was last year in the spring and yep, not from a dealer. Bought mine private party, Craigslist has some deals to be found every now and then. The new car shortage really ramped up the used 4runners prices.

To put things in perspective, I bought my 1992 4Runner in 1994 for $19,500 with 32,000 miles on it. They were hard to find even back them.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I bought my 87 4Runner in 96 for $5,000.00. I picked it because it matched my pickup's color, the old Toyota Silver (great reason, huh?), and the engine was close enough I figgered even a tyro like me could work on it. It had about 60,000 miles on it. It had been owned by a guy that worked at one of the Toyota dealerships in Yuma, and had been well cared for. I still changed all it's fluids, put in a 3-core all metal radiator, and lubed anything that would take a squirt of grease. All the lube points had little bolts in them, so I had to buy and install a heap of zerts for it, and for the pickup, as well. Stupidly, I removed the cover to the access port in the passenger side wheel well when I changed the oil and fuel filters, and promptly managed to loose it. OOOPS!
Put new tires on, BFG, AT TA Radials, and moved the best condition old tire to the spare position. Been doing that ever since.

The 99 4Runner my lovely wife recently bought, back in March, at a dealership in Colorado, where it had been a Fleet vehicle nearly it's entire life. We paid, yup, you guessed it, $5,000.00 for it, but we got $500.00 off for my having been military. Plus $1,100.00 to ship it to us. The dealer changed all the fluids for us for free, including the radiator, timing chain and water pump, and the ECU, as it had a problem with the idle. We put a new set of Toyo tires on it. I lubed all the driveshaft zerts, looked like it'd been a while. It had some minor problems, missing the interior fuse block cover, the rearview was loose, the skid plates were missing, etc. We took care of all that, had the knock sensors replaced, as they were causing a CL light. Then my mechanic replaced them again for free, as the after market sensors he put in still tripped the CL light. It ran great, just had a CL light on all the time. The OEM sensors fixed that.
Then, the fun part. I had to take it to the stealership to get the axle seals, and brakes, replaced. Everyone at the stealership asked us if we wanted to sell it, minimum offer of $10,000. When we said no, they asked us what we paid for it, and when we told them, they all said we stole it. :D Boy, it sure stops nice now, though.

And there's the story of my 'Runners...
    Pat☺

I sold my 18 TRD OR in May with 33k miles on it for $39176. Made about $5k from when I bought new. Thought it was a good idea at the time. Bought an 18 Limited in Blizzard Pearl with 64k miles last week, because I decided to go the what makes you happy route. After dealer fees and taxes and all of that shit, I ended up paying about $1200 more. Expensive lesson learned.

Bought my 2013 Trail in Feb of 2019 with 79,800 miles on it for $22,300 (plus tax/fees). It now has 124k miles, and is still worth pretty close to that, LOL.

I should prob sell it while the prices are still up, haha.
