Got an offer today I couldn’t refuse. Selling my 4Runner for 500 bucks more than I bought it for 3 years ago. Combine that with the fact that my car dealer had a 2020 GX460 in his lot with only 8,000 miles, I couldn’t say no. I loved my 4Runner but the V8 mixed with the creature comforts of the GX are great! Plus it has two captain seats in the back that the kids love! Still wrapping my head around the funky hatch but I’ll get over it.

Signing papers today and the it’s off for a tint, new all weather floor mats, and getting some cross bars so I can throw the Thule up top. Here are a few pics of the new rig and a pic of the 4Runner on our last trip.

    Here’s to a new adventure!

Been driving it for a day and it has been great. Plus, my wife has a 2018 4Runner so we still have one in the garage. Best of both worlds!

Having both, you're going to make people jealous.

Congratulations! IMO, keeping it stock for a while is the way to go. Why upgrade if you end up liking it as-is? And it's never too late to upgrade, but it can be done too early. Enjoy it for a while, and tweak as you see fit. Meanwhile, you have a sweet ride to enjoy.

I was considering that the GX myself but the largest drawback was how the tailgate opens. I planned to tow my boat and that crazy tailgate came out ridiculously far. I loved the idea of the V8 and more towing capacity but the tradeoff would have been that tailgate. How does one unload their fishing equipment or gear out of the back if you have a trailer connected? It would be crazy to disconnect the trailer each time.

Congrats though--if not towing I would have likely bought the GX

Nice! I actually did the opposite and went from a 2021 GX Premium to a 2021 ORP KDSS (totaled thx to girl on “anxiety meds”) and now a 2021 Venture.

For sure the V8 is smoother but the biggest thing I miss about the GX is the post 2020 steering wheel that is shared with the LX. When I drove down to Oakland from Humboldt and back to get the 4R, the steering wheel in the 4R really did feel cheap in comparison.
Also, BSM/RCTA was nice to have.

All that said, things like having a vinyl interior and pretty much the same info stack as my LS460 from a decade ago was just too surreal.

Nice looking rig and smart choice for the family. The Lexus GX is a harder sell right now when compared to the 4Runner. Just a quick drive past the Lexus dealers shows GX 460's are much more available than the 4Runner. You got a really nice high end ride for your family and a great trade in value from your current vehicle.

Such an awesome looking rig! I’m sure I’ll start the process at some point. For now the kids are enjoying the dual climate control and the captain seats. Happy family over here.

I'll be back in a GX at some point, hopefully once it is revised. It is a great vehicle, I just couldn't stand some of the dated features, but some people like that about it. More so a lot of very minor annoyances. Climate in the screen, no carplay options without a ton of modification, side swing door sometimes annoying for travelling with bike rack, etc.

i have to admit all of these things were on the “con” side of the list when I was thinking of buying it. I love a new infortainment system and I’m baffled that I can’t change the climate without going into the screen. But, the ride is great and I’m having a ton of fun with the V8. There’s definitely some give and take.

Thanks for the info! I've been searching for a Thule Box for months now and all the dealers near me are completely sold out. I've been checking Craigslist and FB marketplace but they sell so quickly.

Im amazed I found this one at my local rack and road right in the middle of Covid last summer. This one is more “rugged” looking than the other me Thule boxes. It almost looks like carbon fiber. I just love the ease of their products to get them on and off the car.

Got a 20% window tint on the front two windows and the sunroof as well so my bald head doesn’t burn. Hahaha.

First thing I’m not used to with a car. 80 bucks on premium fuel today. That will take some getting used too.
