I'm seeking to do a lot of stealth sleeping/camping in the back of my 4Runner but am wondering what tips people have for improving ventilation that don't degrade security too much or letting in bugs? I know this is a big selling point of a rooftop tent but I'm dead-set against the added expense after my 4Runner purchase! ;) Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I crack my front windows slightly and open the moon roof.

I don't really have issues with bugs as long as the interior lights are off. I generally roll the rear window down 6" or so and crack all the other windows a couple inches.

You can buy screens that go over the side windows if you want. I have a set of the elastic ones that you stretch over the top of the door, then close the door on. Never actually used them, though.

You may also want to look into the buttons you can install on the hatch to allow for window control and hatch opening from the inside, without the ignition being on. Super handy.

I don’t know of any specific solutions, but there are quite a few battery operated fans out there. I have a kobalt that’s pretty sweet

I understand your concerns. When you let one rip in the middle of the night you want the air out. I think a Dutch oven has its purposes. Embrace it. :bananadead:

@MeefZah , any idea what hose buttons are called? I can't find per 2 mins of Googling and they sound super handy!

Stupid question, @Jynarik, but does the fan stay plugged into the AC output all night and it will work?

these types of fans (dewalt, ryobi, kobalt) run off of their standard tool batteries

I don't have one but apparently the 20V DeWalt fan is a monster and runs for several days
