Yes, that's in the Hailey/Sun Valley area. It's basically a ski resort town up in the mountains for trust fund babies and celebrities.

A lot of Hollywood celebrities have or have had homes up there.

The other mountain town that's pricing out the locals who serve the community is McCall.

I used to go up there, it's a beautiful area but the traffic is so bad on highway 55, that I don't even bother anymore.

Personally I think all of the service people who serve that area should just walk out. Let the rich and famous cook their own dinners, make their own drinks and clean their own bathrooms.

Another problem is the campsites are being trashed. So much for the leave no trace attitude.

Californians will ruin Idaho. They've done it to Texas.

Yep. The money goes where the locations are nice to live and profitable for companies to do business. That’s capitalism for you, better than the alternative.
BTW, it’s happening within CA too. Newly wealthy a-holes buying up properties and driving out lower income locals. Been going on for decades.

    Same thing happened to...
    • Hawaii in the 80s
    • San Jose in the 80s/90s
    • San Francisco in the 80/90s
    • Seattle in the 00s
    • Texas now
    • Idaho now
    • Montana now
And all these have one thing in common except Hawaii. It's where the tech goes. Silicon Valley got tired of San Jose / SF, so they started moving to other places like Santa Monica, Portland, and Seattle. Guess what happened to those places? Real estate shot through the roof. Rent went way up. Affordability for the locals went down. Poverty and homeless increased. It's the same story I've heard 100x and it's sad but nobody has come up with a way to solve. If the wealthy are moving to your area in droves, you're screwed.

The amount of people I know who have moved to Texas, Idaho, or Montana in the past 10 years is somewhere in the 30s now.

I wonder if the Toyota dealerships in those smaller cities will start to grow.

It's not specifically Californians, it's wealthy people in general. Rich a-holes from NY, NJ, CT are buying up a ton of property in my town, driving prices up even further.

Did they hem & haw over the lift? Give you more or less because if it and/or the wheel/tires?

I ask because I’ve got a 6112 on plus Methods and AT3Ws, plus sliders and a Gobi. I’d return it to stock in everything but the 6112s but am wondering if I do that BEFORE or AFTER the dealer takes a look at it.

Dealer did not care about the lift. Honestly not sure if they offered more because of it.
I thought the offer was fair, other dealers were offering 43 max.

I'm in Colorado, front range area. I have a hard time believing it would sell for that, but I've been wrong plenty of times before.

I was getting parts from Toyota for my 4runner today, I always take a gander at the used lot when I drive by. For the first time in months I saw a 4runner in the used lot, it was a 2019 MY and they were asking something like $44,400! I don't even think it was a TRD version! :notsure:

At that price why buy a used 4runner? It might be difficult to order one, but the experience of buying a new car is worth it considering you aren't saving that much money buying used right now. How are people justifying spending that close to MSRP for a car that is still sold?

If its still there tomorrow I will take a photo of the spectacle because they wrote the price and year across the window like it was some sort of hot deal.

Also its hilarious how some on this thread are blaming Californians for causing housing prices to rise in their state. Like Californians are all in on some secret plan to cause housing shortages in random cities across the country and push people they've never met out of their homes. I'll tell you who is running this mysterious syndicate that increases the housing costs- its companies that bring employment opportunities that attract people from outside places.

Y'all think a bunch of California beach bros want to move to some land locked state like Wyoming or Idaho just to price you out of your home? GTFO, your increasing housing prices are a side affect of cheap debt, work from home allowing people to move away from cities, and everyone having money because they couldn't waste it on travel. The next generation will be a generation of renters, not owners.

You're right the next generation may be renters for sure and not owners.

The Chinese will own ports and land in California and rent it back just like they have in Africa, Pakistan etal when the debt is called. No problem there though we should all just be more accepting of them and there plan and enjoy our cheap products and sing kumbaya.

We can't really blame the Chinese. It was us that bought the cheap crap built by cheap labor and the American corporations who built the companies in china

Interesting studies reported on here: https://www.humanprogress.org/u-s-housing-became-much-more-affordable-over-the-last-40-years/

Sometimes reality is counterintuitive -- or at least more complex than it seems.

"According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the median sales price of a house in the U.S. in 1980 was $64,600. Given that the mortgage loan rate at that time was 13.74%, a 30-year loan for $64,600 required a monthly payment of $752.15. The average size of an American home was 1,595 square feet, indicating a monthly payment rate of $0.47 per square foot of housing.

...the average blue-collar worker’s compensation rate was $9.12 per hour. Therefore, a $752.15 loan payment required 82.47 hours of work per month, which is equal to a monthly payment rate of 3.1 minutes of work per square foot of housing.

By 2020, the median sales price of a house rose to $336,900. The mortgage loan interest rate, however, declined to 3.11%. A 30-year loan, then, required a monthly payment of $1,440.45. The average U.S. home size also increased to 2,261 square feet, indicating a monthly payment rate of $0.64 per square foot of housing.

In 2020, the average blue-collar worker’s hourly compensation rate stood at $32.54. Therefore, a $1,440.45 loan payment required 44.27 hours of work per month, which is equal to a monthly payment rate of 1.17 minutes of work per square foot of housing.

That means that the time price of a loan payment decreased from 82.47 hours of work per month in 1980 to 44.27 hours of work per month in 2020, or by 46.3%."

Rents have gone up 25% in Dallas. Its crazy. I'm having to stay in my apartment because I can't afford to move. It really sucks. I've actually thought about buying a Sprinter van and living in that.

Van life, bro! Seriously though, I've thought the same. Priced out of the housing market, its occurred to me more than once all the cash I've been trying to pile up may need to go to a van or RV.

Yup. The fact that for years buying cheap goods has been the primary goal of a lot of people, and delivering them the goal of the industries who make them. It's a shame the politicians who were voted in to serve the best interests of the country instead sold us out by sending all our jobs overseas, one shitty trade deal after another.

I find that $32/hr figure for blue collar workers highly suspect. I work in a company full of blue collar workers, and nobody short of management is making 32 bucks an hour, even after being with the company 20 plus years.

Guys don’t buy depreciating vans to live in. Find other ways to save money. Live well below your means for a while, find a friend to share rent with, any Bill you pay monthly cut it out if possible. Save like hell and fight the urge to spend the money until you rebound. Cut out coffee and eating out etal, gym, all this stuff adds up.

On the topic of outsourcing etal earlier in my opinion we need a more patriotic country and mentality. Hell if we could make all we needed in the 50s, 60s and 70s we can do it now. We just need to ignore the pansy asses who don’t want to work. If this country the blue and white collar folks truly and wholeheartedly wanted to take back what we gave to China we could do it. But it’s about how bad you want something and how much you’re willing to sacrifice for it.

Myself I would give it all up including this damn phone and all electronics in my home to beat them. I’d work a second job to do it. Because that’s what Americans are supposed to do. We don’t sit around waiting; we get off our ass and work hard. We have too many pansies sitting around and they need a swift kick in the rear to learn the value of a dollar and breed some patriotism.

No, all new construction in CA are supposed to have the fiber and infrastructure to support EV charging. Lol I think they rest of the country will follow and there will be chargers everywhere.

So true. The old timers will remember when Made in Japan was a mark of cheap quality consumer goods. Then a certain pres in the 1970s was praised for “opening up China”. Sounded good to the general public, we can sell more stuff to their underdeveloped economy. But the real reason was to make a huge population of cheap labor available to US manufacturers. It took a while to happen, but it was planned, and not by consumers.

I wonder how many of the used 4Runners that are marked up are actually selling. It’s been a month since I sold by TRD OR Base to a dealership, which they gave me $39176 for. They originally listed it for $42950, but now it’s $40950 and still for sale. They now have a 21 ORP with 14k miles listed for $53950. I wouldn’t pay either of those prices for those vehicles, and I have a hard time believing many others would either.

The only thing we know for sure is if a dealers timing isn't perfect as to when this will end, they'll get caught holding the bag(a much emptier one).
