Would be nice if you could retro fit it but I highly doubt it. Even though it seems silly, after being used to having it on cars, to lose it if I snag my 2021 is so dumb.

Yeah I doubt it'll be backwards compatible.

I totally agree with you though. After getting my wife's '19 RAV4 XLE Premium that has it I just can't bring myself to buy a new vehicle without it. Some people call it a crutch, however, $hit happens and I'll take any warning that I can get to prevent me from being in an accident.

Now if only they'd put the 2-position seat memory on all trim levels rather than just the Limited. If they did that the 4Runner would be my perfect vehicle.

I like the rear cross traffic on my GX. That has helped me quite a few times coming out of my driveway.

Never had it and never needed it. Don't need any of the nannies on vehicles today.

On a daily vehicle I am all for safety supports. If it can help me and maybe another driver who could damage my vehicle by not paying attention I am okay with that. I always laugh at people that are too cool for that stuff. It's not that serious.

My 911 doesn't have anything on it but for a weekend runner, I'm okay with that.

Had that recently on a rented QX80. What a terrific feature. My wife and I were able to take turns driving with zero hassle setting things up. The Infiniti had it for the seat, steering wheel, mirrors... even the radio presets.

I think it’s weird that they would add stuff like adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane departure, but leave this out.

Most other manufacturers start with the lane change assist/BSM as the primary option and then let you add the other crap.

It really is a great feature. I'm honestly thinking about getting a Limited just because it has that feature but I can't bring myself to commit.

I'm not really an of roader so I doubt I'd really miss the features of the ORP or Pro.

I wouldnt say I'm too cool for it. More like its too annoying on a daily basis for me to deal with it. My '20 has all the newer nannies and I wish I bought a '19. I paid for them but they are turned off.

This is the ONE nanny that I wish I had, as it's been great when I've driven vehicles with it. I'm short, so the blind spots in my 4R are REAL, and it would be such a help in the insane CA traffic. Plus, with the mirrors being so small it really can get tricky sometimes for me to work around. My 6'1 partner has no issue with visibility-the tall jerk! (I kid)
I can't even tell you how many time's i've researched the possibility to modify and add this. It doesn't make sense to me why they went away from the bigger truck mirrors. The mirrors on my '99 4r and '05 Taco were big and wonderful. Bring em back!

I guess I don't look at them as "nannies". I look at them as a way for my wife and/or I to avoid being in an accident due to missing something in the mirror or someone flying up on us at 95mph in a 60mph zone.

I do agree though that I really don't like lane keeping assist on the '19 RAV4 where it physically steers you back to the center of the lane and we turned that off. I also wish the radar cruise control would start out at the closest following distance.

It also still drives me insane that Toyota shuts the cruise off whenever you shut the vehicle off! I drove Chevy's for 35 years and the cruise thing is annoying!

Being 6'1" must be the perfect height for the 4R since I also have no issues either.

If you have a fucked up c-spine, it sort of is, yes.

Blindspot monitoring is also extremely useful if your highway driving consists of more than two lanes where you frequently have to change lanes both to the right and to the left.

I believe all these "features" should be available. I just believe they shouldn't be forced upon us like something else going on right now.

The lane assist is average. I don't love it on my wife's NX300. But most safety features you can just turn off if you don't want them. I don't know how BSM could be annoying? Doesn't make a noise and just lights up.

I do agree on the radar cruise and needing to back it off 3 lengths. That is annoying.

I spent some time in a Tesla for a few days last week. That was fun. I'd like to add one to the stable at some point.

Forced on you? Lol please tell me you aren't equating a blind spot led light to a mask or a vaccine

Just disable them if you don't want to utilize them. The cost to add them is minimal to the manufacturer and they allow most people to get a cheaper insurance rate.

I personally don't care for the lane tracing so I turned it off on the RAV4.

ETA: It was fun though when I tried going "hands free" in the RAV4 and it yelled at me to put my hands back on the wheel after a few seconds :)

As long as I'm not paying for them and they can be completely turned off without having to do it every time I start the vehicle then thats fine.

I know on the Wrangler you can add the safety package. Thats how it should be.

They can all be completely disabled and the settings survive restarting the vehicle. I can't comment to the cost, however, I really, really doubt it's even a percentage of the cost of the vehicle.

It sounds like the "Technology Package" is how you'll get the BSM so we'll have to see what the cost is and what all is included. If they add wireless charging then I don't care what it costs I'll be getting it.

Right? These boomers are out here thinking they're the niche buyers that Toyota is targeting with all upgrades, and getting offended. They're there, don't use them, turn your head to double check blind spot (as you should anyways). Giving themselves away with the mask/vaccine comments, though. The 2 boys from Texas.

I was just about to ask the ages of the people that want these. I'm 50 and have never once thought damn I wish something would have told me that truck was next to me. I understand if someone has an injury, but lets be honest the younger generations are just lazy.

I think the mask mandates were stupid as well, however, this isn't that and a little blinking light as a passive warning isn't even an inconvenience to anyone and can be turned off or ignored if one chooses to do so.

If they couldn't be shut off and it took control of the steering wheel or something then I'd have a problem with BSM.

Again I agree if things can be turned off and I'm not paying extra for it. Or at the very least let people decide. I have a friend that has a Subaru and that thing basically drives itself. I'm out on that. I want complete control.
