If you had the option to purchase either one at msrp. Which color would you choose?

MGM. Not a fan of the lunar rock... or any special Pro color really.

That could be a tough call for some. Others, easy. LOL

I have a 21' TRD/ORP in Magnetic Grey Metallic. It's one of those colors (like white, black, silver) that will likely remain popular years later, especially on re-sale or trade in time. It would likely appeal to a wider, general audience. For me, I would worry that a more specialty type color might become tiring after a couple years (?) On the other hand, in the case of the Pro, the more limited specialty color of the Lunar Rock will likely enhance the value of the specialty PRO trim level - if you happen to like the color.
Funny thing. If the Lunar Rock color was offered on the ORP I would likely not purchase it. But on a PRO Model, it would be my first choice. Go figure. LOL

That was my dilemma as well! In a perfect world I would have chosen cement. I luckily got a Lunar Rock three weeks ago. Initially I preferred the MGM. About three months ago I finally decided I wanted a Pro over a ORP both in MGM. About two months ago I was going to look at and probably purchase a MGM Pro (1st at MSRP and 2nd at $1,000 above MSRP) about a week apart at two different dealerships. But, they both sold on the days I was going to check them out. From November thru May I had only seen three LR 4R's in passing, never did I have a chance to stare at one for more than a couple of seconds. All three times they looked great and as has been said many times - "the pictures do not do it justice". After seeing the 3rd LR drive in front of me - I was ready for a LR. Went to order one on the day after the memo went out that one could no longer order a 2021 Pro. Thought I had blown it for a 2021 LR 4R.

At a dealership about 25 miles away - I got lucky that a LR had been ordered, the buyer lost patience and apparently found one elsewhere. I happened to check this dealer's website on the day it was posted and I was the first to claim it on 05/08 for $2,000 above MSRP and it arrived on 05/13.

I really like the MGM color, but it is everywhere on 4R's and all vehicles for that matter. The 2016 Crosstrek I traded in for this 4R was a charcoal grey color as well.

I like the LR even more now that I own one. Looks like Lunar Rock will be available in TRD OR's for 2022, so there should be plenty of opportunities!

    Good luck!

When you pay TRD Pro price I say buy special colors. My fav Army Green.

On the other side if you buy regular colors its easy to use touch up paint. For example when I trim my bumper for larger tires I just ran to Autozone got masking tape and Toyota Classic Silver paint and painted the bumper edge my self.

If you are thinking MG, why not go back to a 2020 and try to save some $$$. New is nice but if you don’t care about the special color, go slightly used?

MGM is a great color, but if you're going with a pro get lunar IMO.

Great looking color, and if you'd rather get Grey you can get an off road premium and save thousands. Then install your own lift and tires, and you'll still have money left over

I hated my MGM after I bought it mainly because its just like black and every chip or scratch shows. I would think LR would be much better. I think the MGM looks amazing now, but still hate all the flaws that show up.

My MGM taco was the same way. Shows scratches (like dog claw scratches, sigh) but looks gorgeous in the sun when it's clean. I actually had issues when I'd be driving into the sun, getting a reflection off the hood

    LR, for 2 reasons.

    1) LR will be much more forgiving as far as showing chips, scratches, etc.

    2) You're paying a premium for the PRO, and IMO the biggest difference of the PRO is the color. Though, Toyota seems to be recycling them now, so that may hold less true on this one.

    Just my .02.

Bottom line: get the one that will give you the fizz whenever you walk out to it, or turn to look back at it. It's your money after all.

One thing I will add about MGM is that it looks very stealth. The black accents look perfect to me, but I hate the chips and scratches.

Went up the Sierras this weekend in Central California. Within a 15 mile stretch, three 4Runners and 2 Tacos passed me that were all Lunar Rock. Also seen a bunch of Lunar Rock Toys driving around the coast.

Apparently that is a really hot color in CA.

Color is a very personal decision, personally I don’t like either one.

I think the magnetic gray is too dark, and I think the lunar rock looks a bit off.

That is my opinion and I am not attempting to cast aspersions on other people’s trucks or color choices.

Mine is the light silver, and I think it’s the best color because it hides dirt, dust, and car wash swirl marks very well, plus mine has held up to fading and abuse after spending almost 7 years, including winters, outside in Colorado.

I will definitely agree that silver hides dirt well. My work truck is silver and always looks clean, even though it rarely gets washed.

Also, I originally test drove a silver one and really liked it. I decided I would go with anything but black or white, and they had MGM in stock. It seemed appropriate anyway, since it matched out TC.

Honestly, I think the 4Runner looks good in any color. :)

Definitely always looks clean, but silver has no pop. Might be the most boring color ever, but boring can be good too.

I dig the lunar rock color. Really cool color.

Toyota took a big risk going with the weird color palettes, but they seem to be a big hit. Also seen a lot of the olive drab and army beige driving around.

Hope other manufacturers will also try new color palettes including some matte finishes. So tired of the same old black, silver, white combos.

New Ford Bronco also comes in a lunar rock type color.

    It is a boring color.

I bought my truck in 2013 in Florida and there were five trails available to SE Toyota at that time.

Blue and red were available, both without KDSS, I wanted the blue, second choice red, but the dealer got back to me two days later and told me only a silver with KDSS was now available and Southeast Toyota at that time had difficulty obtaining any trails, so I got stuck with it.

The color has grown on me, and it is ridiculously resilient.

Keep in mind most dealers are doing 10k over msrp just for lunar rock on the pro. Camelback told me 5k over msrp and then called me to tell me they aren't allowed to sell anything under 10k msrp because of the color but could deal for all other pro colors

If it is true that Lunar Rock will be available on the 2022 TRD OR, why would consumers pay $10,000 above MSRP for a 2021 LR Pro? I paid $2,000 above four weeks ago not knowing LR would be available in the 2022 OR.

I was very fortunate that this fell into my lap! This dealership previously sold all of their Pro's at MSRP. But, given the times they bumped it up $2,000 and I was in no position to argue - I felt it was a good deal given the times! I knew if I even stared at them wrong they could pull it and sell it for $5,000 above in 24 hours!

All the dealers are selling for 10k above msrp for lunar rock. Everyone will be paying at least msrp for 2022 models (non pro) as the shortage and demand are still there. I'm sure most dealers will mark up the trd off road in lunar rock if it does become available

One thing I like so much better over my AG 4runner Pro is my LunaRock tundra. Just last week my wife had I were at OBX and it rained more than once. Being there all week my LunaRock color did not even look dirty compared to my AG when I had it. But then again dark colors show everything. Only talking about the paint color. Still like the 4runner.

C'mon...really? Overpay for a color?. Nobody but the owner cares about the color. Maybe an occasional, ( oh, that looks nice ) comment. I got the color I wanted, however, for the right price, I would take almost any color 4Runner.
