Steel Bumper Replacement

I scuffed up my rear bumper on my 2015 SR5. Been looking online all day for steel replacement, but I cant find anything I like. Does anyone know where I can conduct my research? Looking to upgrade to offroad steel rear bumper and probably a matching front bumper. Thanks,

I saw that thread. The problem I am having is that the factory rear bumper is scuffed which is why I am replacing it. So the area on the factor bumper that will remain in place is scuffed up and looking for a full bumper replacement. I didn't see any of those options on your website. Do you fabricate a full bumper or do you know anyone who does? I saw that Southern Style Offroad has one but would like to compare prices. I would only like to purchase one rear bumper to fix the damage and not have to purchase two. Looking for full steel rear bumper.

That's the biggest problem that I've seen with most rear bumpers for both the 4th and 5th gen. I know CBI is a full bumper for 4th gen, and @MobtownOffroad is also working on a 4th gen full replacement, but I haven't seen a whole lot of options for the 5th gen that don't make use of the original bumper. Think @JWaldz was talking about a rear bumper for 4th gens as well from his company, but haven't seen anything yet. Personally, I don't want to cut my stock bumper either. I just don't like the way that it looks so I'm waiting patiently to see how these other two (aside from CBI) come out.

 

If you are totally set on a full replacement, I think Southern Speed makes one (not sure if it's been released yet). I don't really recommend a full replacement for a couple reasons. One, it's a ton more weight that is unnecessary. and two, it doesn't give any room for the body to flex. I'd worry about something binding. I'm sure others will come out with full bumpers soon. I'll update my 5th gen armor thread with the SS bumper.

maan but a full replacement bumper will be heavy as hell. my shrockworks with the tire carrier is 200lbs, you are trimming about 8 inches from the fender lines. here's a pic of about how much you're trimming.

 

Still not interested in trimming. It looks tacky and then I have to cut up a perfectly good bumper to fit in the trash can instead of either selling it or giving it to someone that could use it.

 

I think the full replacements look really good on black or grey trucks. I think it is too much of a contrast on mine. Such a huge black piece on back all of a sudden.

 

Yeah, I have found a bunch of bumpers that need to cut the factory cover. My factory bumper is jacked so if I got one of those, I would have to buy two bumpers (one factory and one after market). I am starting to look for aluminum full bumpers to cut down on the weight, because like you said, the full rear bumpers come in at around 400#. Do anyone see an issue with an aluminum bumper instead of a steel?

 

If you are trying to tow anything you can't do it with aluminum

 

Have you found any that you like? I have a 2016 limited and hope to someday be able to swap out the plastic bumper for something better. Would love to see what you find.

 

Just rear?

Update............. Ended up purchasing from Southern Style Offroad. It is 190#'s for the options I went with...... Just bumper with no accessories. I will update with photos once installed, but it will take approximately 10 weeks to be delivered - They're putting their first orders together after the prototype updates/enhancements. Spent a lot of time via email and phone with Gwen over there and believe I made the right choice. I was only able to track down a hand full of places in the US that fabricate what I was looking for (not having to cut the rear stock bumper cover).

 

I'm considering this same bumper. It's now become more of a priority as I got hit the other day and the rear bumper has dropped on wow side. It's minor repair I'm sure, but I'd rather armor plate it incase someone else bumps my truck. I had SouthernStyle send me some pics of the bumper installed with no tire arm and it looks nice. I don't think the tire arm would work with my bike rack that goes into the hitch receiver. I'm also considering the Pelfreybuilt front bumper that doesn't require any cutting.

Do you have any pics of yours installed? Did you do your own install or have it done? I don't think I want to attempt the install especially if I do the front (since lights are involved) I'm trying to find a place in the DFW area in Texas who would do a good job installing it all.

 

My understanding is that due to making modifications to the prototype and the flood, the fabrication has been delayed quite a bit. I was quoted 10 weeks from purchase and as of my last update, my bumper will start to be fabricated mid this month (November). Fortunately, my stock bumper is scuffed up pretty bad, but still functional so the wait is not that big of a deal. Long story short, I am hoping to have the bumper sometime in December. A nice little Christmas gift is my hopes. I have a buddy who owns a auto body paint shop who is going to powder coat the bumper to match the truck's color so we will be doing that after I receive it raw. The same buddy has the tools to install it so we will be installing it after its painted. The instructions seem pretty straight forward, so i'm not anticipating much of an issue. There is a good forum on T4R.org ( ) to give you probably more info then you need.

 

Good to know about the delay in delivery. Luckily the damage I have is not to bad so I'm able to still drive it.

 

Here are the pics he sent of the bumper without the tire arm. I'm considering having both bumpers coated by Line-x and seeing if they can cost the stock fender flares as well. I took off the stock Limited rocker panels and added Shrockworks slider steps so I think the black on the gray might look nice.

 

I still like the look. I thought about Line-X, but decided to go with the Gray Metalic of the vehicle. I think it will be slightly contrasting, but not clash. My original thought was to do black on gray. Either way, I'm stoked to get it in and get it on. Oh, and my damage was pretty much the same as yours without the crack. Same reason I had to go with a full and not have to cut the stock.

 

Well I waited to long for a rear bumper I guess. UHG!! I had decided to do the Southern Style Off road bumper on my 4runner and got the wife's approval to pull the trigger and place the order. When I tried to order I found out that they have discontinued making the rear bumpers. in my opinion they they the best looking rear bumper. I really liked that it did not require any cutting. I don't really want a steel bumper because I am doing off road etc. I live in the Dallas TX area and I want a steel bumper because of all the bad drivers on the roads today! I had another accident in my 4Runner about 3 weeks ago! I was at a stop sign 2 blocks from my house and a kid in a 2002 chevy truck decided he didn't want to stop. He hit me going about 30MPH and shredded my factory bumper and broke out the tail light on the drivers side. I just got it back from the body shop. I know that having a heavy steel bumper would not mean there would have been no damage but I'm sure it would not be as bad. The estimate that was set to insurance for the repair was 5,000! that is insane!

I am glad to have my truck back, and I will continue my hunt for armor. Hopefully someone will decide to make a heavy duty steel bumper that doesn't require cutting up the factory parts. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I have found about 3 front bumpers that won't require cutting but I really want a rear bumper. I love my Shrockworks slider steps wish they made a no cutting bumper. Sometimes I think I should just buy a tank to drive here.
