What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

De-chromed the rear 4Runner badging, made it match the front TOYOTA flat silver.

 

Looks great and different from the normal black out approach.

 

Scary people that do stuff with tags are only on the lnterwebs hahah

 

It’s like wheel locks. Ain’t gonna stop a determined fuckface, but it may make them move on to a more opportunistic target.

You can find a lot of information about someone by looking up their license plate in public records.

Like, you could look up the license plate to a nice motorcycle you saw online, find out what the physical location it was registered at and go steal it. Or you could, look up some dude you don’t like on an Internet forum by his license plate and harass him in real life.

Buncha weird fucks in the world.

It’s just good practice to remove any temptation from your random internet trolls.

 

Any parts store sells wheel lock removers...they have kits around 20 bucks that destroy the lock by reverse threading into the lug. I'm guessing most tire stealing punks keep them handy

 

got them wired last Tues

 

finally had time to get the spidertrax 1.25 spacers put on.. slight rub full wheel lock. I may take off the front mud flaps, not sure though.. fellas have any feedback on that? mahalo..

 

Installed the expedition essentials t4rpam the ram wireless charger (clearly you can see the wire) and ordered the replacement ball for my iPad mount the 1” is too small to keep it from vibrating all over the place

 

So something went wrong and idk what yet.
Runner has been fine since the install but this morning she wouldn’t start. She would crank over but no ignition. I know where I’m drawing power for raptor lights switch relay is from inside the cabs fuse box under dash and that the fuse I am sharing using the “add a fuse” is “ign 2”. Ign 2 is what fuses cranking power... maybe a relay for that, not sure. But anyway I unplugged the add a fuse from ign2 and swapped 10 amp fuse the normal factory way. She started right up. So I’m currently in a quandary.

 

Did you trace wiring to see if maybe an extra inline fuse was blown or bad ground or if maybe wiring was stripped anywhere as you pulled through firewall? Could be a bad relay too.

 

Mod fail today...

I like the looks of the white LED strip lights, so I added a set today. Total pain figuring out what fuse to tap into it to have them come on with the ignition (it's the fuse panel inside the vehicle, and not the one under the hood). Spent a couple of hours routing the wires properly and getting everything done just right.

Turn them on and they are beautiful! Exactly what I was looking for...



Then I walk down the street to see how they look from a distance and... Doh! The brushguard obscures them totally. Can't see them. LOL. Oh well, they look cool to semi drivers going by.

 

I’ve done an initial trouble shoot. With more time I’ll look deeper. But I did neglect to add a 2 amp fuse for power into new switch. They did that in video I followed but my switch didn’t come with the inline fuse holder. I did finally buy one at NAPA but had not incorporated it yet. Idk, I guess it’s possible I blew the switch because of that. But if I did idk that would cause ignition issue.

worse comes to worse I can bypass switch and relay altogether and tap power from fuse box under the hood. INJ fuse location I believe. Then lights will be on whenever runner is running, I think that’s is the case with that anyway. But I really want the switch option. Have some digging to do.

 

Did you end up using IGN 2?

 

Had Cooper AT3 4S's installed in place of the Dunlops, stopped by the eerily empty lot of the Toyota dealer.

Those add a fuse taps are garbage, nothing but problems. Find a parking light source under the hood and tap into that.

I used these to rewire my trailer this spring. I got mine from a local AA Wheel & Truck Supply. I needed some extras after close so I went to Menards & theirs were horrible. Buy a good crimper & a lighter will make a great sealed connection. My $0.02

They will last 5-7 years in my experience. Water & salt will find their way in. A cheap light bar I used on my work truck had a weatherpac connection and salt got into it & fried a wire & then the fuse. Just my experience.

I originally ran my raptor light wires through the firewall and tapped into the TAIL fuse. They would only turn on when the tail lights were on, so not a true switch but more control than anytime the vehicle was on. I recently added some ditch lights and decided to clean up all my wiring with a switch panel. Just got the cheap one from auxbeam and wired the raptor lights to that...now they have a switch.

 

Not arguing with any other methods people use. This is how my connections came out. After all were crimped & shrunk I wrapped the 5 wire main strand in electrical tape & made it as clean as possible.
I am not an electrician & I am still learning but I believe this is a 10+ year rewire. The stupid crimp wire connections are horrible.

The first time I rewired the trailer I bought a cheap kit from the parts store & they lasted for 5+ years. This time I bought proper 25' of 5 wire that's sheathed. & wired in extra lights for better visibility & safety. The two on the very rear are new.

I've used them a lot since they came out years ago (for the larger ATO fuses) and have done probably... jeesh, I don't even know... 20 (?) installs in my own vehicles and for friends using the mini-ATO style with exactly zero problems. They are a very simple solution and make for a clean install. Currently my wife's 4Runner has 2 in use, for an extra power outlet and a map light, and the relay for her LED. My 4R has one, for a map light.

 

I love Grainger but $33 each! I have used those for interior fuse taps but I could see it working inside the fuse box under the hood as well.
We are talking about two different things! Glad we can talk & not argue. It seems rare.
I went from this as my wiring (cheap auto parts set with lights)...

I have also never soldered anything. I have a welder & can weld but have never soldered before. Just a comfort level I guess.
