Just "ordered" a '21 TRD Pro in Lunar Rock

Agreed! I saw a Tacoma and a Sequoia in Lunar Rock at two different dealerships early on and I did not like it. I have now seen three LR 4Runners in passing / fleeting sightings, and they looked great. I am really intrigued with the Lunar Rock color now over my initial desire for an MGM Pro. But, the pricing has skyrocketed in my area (MD) now with the extremely low inventory. Most dealers were at MSRP on the Pro's and now they are tacking on $10,000 to the LR Pro's. I am waiting for the 2022 reveal and then I will order a 21 or 22 at that time. I am hoping there is an overlap time in which that is an option.

 

Yeah I hated lunar rock on rav4 when it first came out a few years ago but last year I saw the 4runner pro on the lot when we bought my wifes camry I knew that's what I wanted and fell in love. Looks so much better on a 4runner

 

I was just told by a sales rep that you can no longer order a 2021 Pro 4Runner. That will make the Lunar Rock the rarest of the Pros! Congrats to those that have this collector's item!

 

Oh wow. Well it’s getting close to the 2022 MY anyhow, but happy for those that were able to get a LR !

 

I originally had a 2016 super white pro, but every time I saw a cement I’d kick myself for not getting one. So now I have a lunar rock. Because I feel like it’s a similar color.

I’m really hoping the 2022 trd pro color is one I don’t like or I’ll be trading it for that one. (If it’s sun fusion yellow or something, I’m trading this lunar rock) , damn near any other color and I’ll keep it.

I was just informed by a second dealership that you no longer can place an order for a 2021 TRD Pro 4Runner. You Lunar Rockers will have a rare bird indeed. I am assuming there are still 2021 Pro's that have been produced and are in some form of transit that have not been claimed.

 

To satisfy my curiosity, does Toyota publish their production numbers for specific 4Runner trims so we can see how many Pros were built?

 

Yep. Have actually seen an email by Toyota saying just that. I was shown it by the head of a dealer that wanted to assure me that they were not just trying to sell the inventory on their lot.

I would love to find a Lunar Rock, but they are rare artifacts indeed.

 

I just took delivery of my 2021 TRD/ORP yesterday and posted it here. The sales rep told me they had a Pro in LR on the way to them and sold it to a guy in California for List price. He flew to St. Louis and drove it back. Apparently Dealers in CA wanted 8-10 grand above List out there.

That same sales rep told me that almost all the 4R's are sold by the time they reach their dealership. And virtually all the ORP and Pro models are already pre-sold. If this 4R momentum continues, I'm guessing it will be even more difficult obtaining a 2022 - for any model. And you can bank on the dealers not discounting anything. That's why I didn't wait and hope and secured a 2021. so, if anyone is still sitting on the fence waiting for 2022, you might reconsider. Just saying.

Yep. Some dealer even wanted 17k markup out here in Northern California. Call me crazy, but I felt content being able to drop it down to a 6k markup

 

Because they only have one unique color per year with the Pro's. Lunar Rock is this year's unique color and if they are going to cut off production mid year, the total production number of Lunar Rock's will be very low in comparison with the previous years unique color.

 

I feel like I just hit the LOTTERY!

I started this thought process in November with a Tacoma and it was going to be a 2021 Tacoma TRD ORP DCLB in Cement.

By January I realized a 4Runner made more sense. After much internal debate of a Pro or ORP, I recently decided it was definitely going to be a Pro. Of the current Pro color choices I preferred the MGM. Within the past month, I twice was going to go to a dealership to check out and purchase a MGM Pro - 1st one at MSRP and the 2nd one at $1,000 above MSRP, but they both sold on the days that I was going to see them. As time passed I concluded, that I should just wait until (June I was thinking) they divulge what the Pro color for 2022 will be plus the added bonus of whatever minor enhancements will be added, and I will then order a 21 or 22 immediately!

After seeing a third Lunar Rock 4R on the road I said F'it - let's go for it! So I called dealership #1 two days ago to place an order for a 21 Lunar Rock and was told one can longer order 2021 Pro 4R. I was thinking you gotta be kidding me! Contacted a second dealership and the sales rep was not aware of the production stoppage and took my info to place an order. He contacted me yesterday morning and confirmed that I could no longer order a 21 Pro 4R. Now I am realizing how rare a Lunar Rock is probably going to be going forward and how I really missed out!

Yesterday afternoon with a few minutes to jump on the computer I checked one of the high volume local dealerships (Maryland) and they had two 4R's the previous evening and were now showing four 4R's. They now had a Lunar Rock showing on screen. I called immediately and they said it was available and due to arrive on May 19th. Sent in the deposit - done deal! This dealership was among the few dealerships in the area that was selling the Pro's at MSRP, but they added a $2,000 market adjustment. Given the times, paying $2,000 above MSRP for a Lunar Rock feels like a good deal!

So, for those still looking - not all of them in transit are claimed!

Time to buy a lottery ticket!

Interesting I think I saw you went from an RS to a Pro. I currently have a 19 RS5 and also went with a Lunar Pro. But I don’t think I have it in me to sell it, ever.

 

I had a 2018 RS3 until yesterday... we are building a house in Steamboat Springs, CO, and will be moving there mostly full time next year... I loved my RS3, but it's not suited for winter in Colorado. There was a minor bidding war for the RS3 and I sold it yesterday for $51K! I've had it for 3.5 years and it had 30k miles and was in cherry shape, but was going to need a $2k brake job and new tires this year and it seemed like the right time to sell... I was a little sad last night, but when I looked at my Lunar Rock in the driveway I got over it... two very different but very cool vehicles...

 

I am feeling guilty like I jumped in line!

I picked up the Lunar Rock this afternoon that fortuitously fell into my lap last Saturday. Previously I had only seen three Lunar Rock 4R's in passing / fleeting glimpses and just recently decided to switch from a MGM to a LR as my Pro color of choice. I never had the opportunity to look and stare at a LR 4R on a lot. When I pulled into the dealership parking lot and saw that Lunar Rock 4R - I could not believe how great that vehicle looked! I was incredulous that thing was going to be mine. I had read and heard (on videos) many times that the pictures do not do it justice and that it looks much better in person. That is absolutely true - it looks so much better than I could have imagined! Alright! Enough of that! Let the good times roll!

I never saw a lunar rock 4Runner in person. I saw a few lunar rock rav4’s but they don’t look the same. The body lines on the vehicles just make the colors appear different between the two vehicles.
