    Hi all,
Who makes an aftermarket skid plate that will bolt on my 2016 4runner that has the cut out for access to the oil filter canister?

I am planning on purchasing an adaptor to use an older spin on filter. I would like to change oil and not have to completely remove the front skid plate, just remove a small plate covering the filter.

Anyone have an aftermarket front skid plate that can share source? Want one to just bolt on to replace factory plate and don't want to buy all three plates, just the front.

Reason I need this is I am no longer a spring chicken and a disabled vet... I do want to do as much as I am able to maintain my vehicle.

    Thanks for any help!

    George

Most of the aftermarket skids have access panels for the oil filter. RSG, Victory, CBI, RCI, etc...

RCI, and it replaces the front 2 skids with a one piece unit. Trapdoor held on by button head bolts covers the filter. Easy peasy.

Trapdoor visible towards center driver side if you look closely, underneath the "CI" of "RCI". Don't really have a "better" pic from below.

Well, to be clear, one does not really "remove" the factory plate for an oil change, rather you "swing it down." It's actually quite easy, especially if you've ditched the front bumper lower valence piece (which I believe all aftermarket skids require). That said, if you aren't using a vehicle lift to change the oil, you might not have enough room to fully swing the plate out of the way.

Thanks all. Looks like the RCI is what I need. Will get one on order!

I really wish that Toyota had put the oil filter on top of the motor like my FJ had. Simplest oil change ever. 4RUNNER oil change is annoying.

I recently installed my RCI skid plate and access to the oil drain plug is easy. No need to remove skid plate. RCI makes a a great skid plate.

Your FJ must have been an early year. My 2011 FJ was almost the identical setup for changing oil as my 2020 4R. Only difference was the FJ did not have the front valence to remove. Otherwise, both had the same two skid plates and identical oil filters.

I got RCI. It has maintenence cut out. Really easy to install. I see some skids require to remove stock support brackets but not RCI. Simply remove stock and fix RCI.

That's true, thanks for pointing that out. I do like that skid plate.

So I'm guessing the only difference between the two versions is the clearance cutout on the sides...all the mounting locations are the same?

I hope they did redesign it, it would save some modification work, and make installation a breeze. I also emailed CTH for confirmation.

The RCI one that I got for my 2016 works perfectly for this reason. Didn't have to remove it at all. A really nice design.

Mine was r&r. But if you have a diff drop, you may need shorter skid plate bolts for the rears.

So that gets you access directly to filter housing?

If you mean how long does the shipping take - I ordered mine Tuesday 5/4 and got notified of UPS shipping and tracking number this morning. I expect to see this mid next week, I suppose. @Daytonaviolet mentioned these are probably stocked stateside, and it seems he was correct.

Yep! Remove the Allen screws, take the plate off, and as they say in Canada, Bob's your uncle. Easy.
