I know it’s been done....

I’m a few weeks away from either purchasing, or ordering a new 4Runner. I love/ want a PRO, but the amount they ask, and markup I just can’t see spending that amount. I know I’ve seen it on here, but has anyone ordered a ORP, and had them add on the PRO grill, and rims/ tires? If so how much of a add on expense was it?

 

You can Google search TRD pro grills and wheels. Probably under 1k for wheels and grill. My fake pro grill was about $110ish, took 5 minutes to install. The tires that come on the pro aren’t that special.

 

I 100% agree that its not worth spending for a TRD Pro unless you really want special colors or your want to lift. You can use that money to build TRD ORP to something better than a Pro. IMO.

To my eyes I wasn't interested installing TRD Pro grill on my ORP. I like the stock grill. I was utilizing the money for functionality over style. I didn't even spend on wheels as they are good enough for bigger 285/70R17 tires. I don't know just sharing one of my pics if you think to keep the stock grill or most of the looks to stock.

 

I could be wrong on this, but I don't believe dealers will add the PRO grill to an off-road.

They will add the rims and tires, but for (probably) less money you could always choose your own aftermarket wheels and tires and sell the stock wheels and tires. If you want go with larger tires down the road you're probably better off doing this anyway as the PRO wheels are too narrow for 285's. Some folks have done it anyway, but it's not considered a proper fit.

If the PRO suspension isn't your biggest reason for wanting a PRO, you're better off buying an OR Premium and modifying it to look like a PRO. the FOX suspension is the biggest factor that differentiates the PRO from an ORP.

 

Atleast on-road the stock TRD Pro tires are noisier than the BFG KO2 LT285/70R17 & Falken Wildpeak AT3 P285/70R17s.

I'm also not a fan of skinnier TRD PRO 7in wheels, I like 7.5in TRD ORP wheels if any one thinking to keep stock wheels and get bigger tires.

Every time you get into your wannabe TRD Pro, you'll remember that it's not really a Pro. Better off simply building something true to yourself, and not trying to mimick what you decided you can't afford.

 

Lol. It's not always about what one can afford. Some folks wanted something more capable than a PRO. Others might not need the Fox suspension and just want the cosmetic touches.

I need the Pro suspension like a hole in the head. Has nothing to do with need, in my case. I'm 60 , run a profitable business and am not/never have been a tightwad when it comes to $$. I learned a long time ago that when I purchased something I didn't quite like, rather than buying what I really wanted, it bit me in the ass every time I got into it/used it/played with it. Learned my lesson then and stick to that rule today.

Spend a bit more and get what you'll be happy to see in the garage every morning. Or build a one-off which is even better!!@

 

I've paid for them on almost all my women LOL. The return on investment is great, and if you split up you get visitation rights LOLOL

 

Ha ha.. But I like the ELKA 2.5 DCs on my TRD ORP. Feels like they are the real deal vs the Fox on my TRD Pro is meh..

 

I totally agree! If the OP really wants a PRO, he should get it. But, if he just wants the cosmetic parts, a faux-PRO is a fine option IMO.

I traded in an upside down Tacoma for my 4Runner and couldn't be happier! The Taco was great, just not the vehicle for me. I lost some money on the deal, but got the vehicle I really wanted.

And if you absolutely must have that grill find a 3rd party
As for wheels I'd say you're better off with something more you and less EVERY-FUNKING-BODY else

Get the OR do the changes yourself and get familiar with your truck.

 

Unless you want the manual shift transfer case and or the crawl control options (both a little over rated), get an SR5 and then go crazy. After market rims (SCS, would be my choice), tires based on personal preference, suspension (when i do it again, ironman), TuRD grill (factory or China) and you would still have thousands left over compared to the price of a pro.

Or if you are in the Southeast United States ask about the XP Packages on a SR, OR or ORP; it gives you the grill and wheels. They do the work in Jackssonville FL at distribution center and send to dealers down south and towards the east coast. I debated buying on from Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh NC from Toyota Jeff. But by the time you add up the cost etc for the work, shipping etal it still is pricey.

 

Honestly I like the regular grille for the T4R and this comes from some who who put a TRD Pro grille on their 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport. It looks better on the Tacoma in my opinion be beyond that the 2nd and 3rd gen 4Runners I remember as a kid all had the "new" Toyota logo so for me at least the regular grille is more "heritage" than the Pro one.

you can install the PRO grill your self and is about $125. to 150. google it the OEM PRO wheels can be purchase at the dealer for about $750.00 at the time you purchase your 4RNR they will give you a deal at this time but do not let the dealer install them thats when the rip you off go to any tire store and they will do it for about $80- $100. good luck with your order
