Well...two other vehicles, a chevy and a honda, lost control on rain slicked road, the hit each other..the honda spun thru several lanes, and caught me on the passenger side..crushing the fender, and blowing out the tire...My insurance company comes out in a day or two.and will decide whether to repair my '97, or TOTAL it out...I hope they fix her...

GOT NAILED at 50.mph.the two other vehicles, were totally destroyed...

biggest problem..might be finding parts..i.e. fender, bumper, etc..that's when insurance often totals the vehicle...got my fingers crossed. if not, will begin searching for another 4runner, or FJ Cruiser

My guess it that it gets totaled by the insurance company.

take the money from insurance if totaled and ask for a buyback - it will have to re-certified in certain states, but you will drive than into the ground anyway.
even for resale later on, take all the pictures now, damaged, before and after and save all receipts, you will still get a pretty penny for it
    DO. NOT. LET. IT. GO.

I would not cash the first check they give you if they try and total it. Take it to a nice body shop and get an estimate and give that to the insurance company with how much you think the rig is worth. Tell them you want it fixed.

This is not a big repair as accidents go, and if you can still drive it, allow the insurance company to sit and stew about it. They HATE open cases. They want it closed ASAP.

I think they will give you the option to get it fixed.

My 2002 got rear ended a couple of years ago and the guy took out the hatch and rear bumper and the adjuster said the car was worth $7500. So no issues getting it fixed since the fix was like $3k. I used the shop All-State wanted to use, and got like a 5 year warranty on the repair. If you use their shop, they can fudge the numbers a bit better to allow it to get fixed.

Don't put in a claim to your insurance yet, as that would lose you a deductible. Use the insurance of the guy who was at fault. They owe it to you to make you "whole" and no deductible enters in.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
My 87 pickup got tapped by some kid not paying attention one night. Bent the rear bumper up slightly. No other trouble, other than my wife got a slight neck injury. We were coming to a stop to make a left, two lane road, no suicide lane. All my lights worked properly. Anywho...

First thing that was nice was he admitted, in front of the Sheriff's Deputies that it was his fault. Way to go kid! I took the truck to a body shop, they wanted $1200.00 to repair it. My insurance company promptly decided to total it, as the truck, according to them, was worth $600.00. Low Kelly Blue-Book at the time of the accident. This was many, many moons ago...
Then they found out that the kid's family hadn't notified their insurance company. My, my, my. We took care of that little detail for them  I thought it was most considerate of us.
They paid for the medical bills, whether they wanted to or not, heh, but STILL no one wanted to fix my truck! I said the hell with it, gimme the $600.00. They did, I got the title cleared, and no, I still don't understand the details of that evolution.
Anywho, I took my truck out to work, we broke out the Oxy-Acetylene cutting/braising set, and heated first one side's support until it was a nice cherry red, and put a wood block onto the bumper. I beat the heck out of it with a BFH until it came back down where it belonged. Then did the other side the same way. Ta-Da! The truck was fixed! A few bucks in oxygen and acetylene, and some sledge hammer time. I never did understand the body shop's estimate, or the insurance company's valuation of my truck.

My one accident in a 4 wheeled vehicle. Let's not talk about what's happened to me on two-wheeled vehicles (motorcycles)... :bananadead:

I wish the OP the best of luck with his insurance company. I'm betting they'll want to total it, and then go after the Honda's insurance for the money. Welcome to delay-ville!
    Good luck!
    Pat☺

Got tired of messing around with the other drivers insurance...( allstate) and they were trying to claim a ' mystery' driver, caused their driver to lose control..as he avoided hitting..and he ended up hitting me..I had to laugh at that logic...anyhow, I had the 4 runner towed to my bump shop...and ordered them to fix it...My lawyer sezs it's a slam dunk in my favor...either allstate pays the bill, or it goes to court. helping hands with Allstate, indeed!....lol

My insurance never "fought" for me. I had to go out an get my own lawyer. Every time, not only did their insurance have to pay to fix things, but they had to pay ME. Remember, although a lawyer might get 1/3 of any settlement, that means they're going to fight that much harder to get you as much as they can, so THEY can get as much as THEY can.

A lawyer is worth the money when dealing with automotive insurance companies. They aren't going to turn loose with a penny more than they are forced to. After 3 motorcycle accidents, I'm familiar with the system.

    Good luck to ya!

Pat, you're 100 % right...Allstate is trying to weasel out...and my insurance won't go after 'em....my lawyer is a good one...I've used him for years....and we will hold both of their feet-to-the-fire.....they love taking money for premiums .....but sure as heck, don't wanna pay out....I'll keep you all in the loop.....

thanks...they are getting a tad 'rare'.....lol.....WORSE case scenario, I fix the 4 runner, out of my own pocket...and then go straight to court, and force the insurance to PAY for it...in the event of it does get totaled...there's no shortage of people, waiting to swoop down on her damaged carcass.....and I'll begin the HUNT for another 4Runner....world wide....or step up to a FJ Cruiser...

told the insurance company to jump up my @#$......and told the bump shop to begin...they started ordering parts, etc..and told me my 4 runner should be done in 10-14 days..and my lawyer filed paper work..to take it to court..where they will have to make good...even if my claim is denied..via court, I'm still going to spend money to repair her...if I had to replace her, I still would have to spend ' x ' number of dollars...as quite frankly, not a lot of decent 3rd gens around..and the few are going for top dollar...by repairing mine, I know EXACTLY what I have...

stopped by the bump shop..to check out my '97..been there 10 days...and at this point, she's about 80 % done...new bumper, fender, etc..some suspension parts, new radiator ..Hood...and those body parts have been re painted and buffed out...when it's finally done in the next week, I'll post pics of her ' new skin '..so happy to have her back...(eventually) if Allstate had their way. my 4runner would have ended up in the boneyard..getting picked over for parts..before they would ' crush ' her...
