Vroom upped their offer another 1k. I'm at 5k over what I paid for it, with 22k more miles in 13 months. I'm a Toyota guy, but walking away with money in my pocket to put into my GX470 is a no brainer. Sure I'm losing 4-5mpg between the GX and the T4R, but I'm also not paying a monthly bill. I may buy another T4R after I do the house purchase mod, or I'll go with a GX460 (I've got 4 kids and need the 3rd row), or Newer Sequoia/LC

EDIT: Pic of my GX for attention

$46K? That is crazy. I thought they didn't have any data to make offers yet for the 2021 models.

Not that crazy when you consider that they've listed it for sale at $52k...

I meant that the used car market is crazy and good for you. Maybe I should go sell them my 4runner too haha

I'm worried about the person that actually ends up buying the thing! From my understanding CarMax has "no haggle" pricing so the cost is what it is. To spend $52k on a car that MSRP's for almost $8k less is... Not a great indicator of financial literacy.

Someone is probably going to pay that price and they know it. Did your 4runner have KDSS or no? What was the sticker price on it?

Sticker was low $44k's. Total "base" model Off-Road Premium, no KDSS, no moonroof, the only option was all-weather floormats. I paid $42.5k out-the-door.

The worst part of a Carmax deal is the financing. I've always thought that's where they make most of their profit is gouging people on the interest rate.

I just got a quote from vroom for my 4Runner - it is almost $1k higher than carvana. But, then I looked them up and read on some reviews.... be very cautious if you choose to deal with them.
On another note - I am probably going to be selling mine, too. After riding out in the KRX - I have no more desire to “overland”. I’ll probably be picking up a truck for towing and still get much better gas mileage lol

I am about to sell my 6-year old build for $65K after seeing that one go for $67,500. Crazy.

    Wish me luck. haha

The Lexus RX series has been a hybrid for years. Our neighbors have one. Gets 40 mpg & I have never seen her with a different car (for repairs). Hers is an '08 & still looks brand new (cosmetically).
Why couldn't Toyota just drop that power train into the 4r? Besides the packaging due to the 4Runners capabilites. I see no reason why not. It is a regenerate hybrid that doesn't require any plug. A few years ago her husband said that the battery was still @ 80%.
This is a whole other thread to begin with.

The auto industry pretty much runs on financial illiteracy. If new cars were only purchased by those who could actually afford them, all the mainstream automakers would go out of business.

Good call! You have the GX, which is cooler than the 4R anyway. As far as the mpg, with the money you net you could always pick up a Fit or something for a commuter.

thanks- I’m about 50% there mentally. Almost ready to sell but can’t decide what I’d replace it with and if it would be financially smart since used cars are high and not sure what I’d want for mee :goingcrazy:

what I really need is someone to walk up and offer me a clean dcsb 1st gen taco for about 10k lol

I've thought about this. I'd probably go with a 04-06ish Tahoe or Yukon. I'd have to travel a bit to get a nice one since I live in New England, but once I get some preventative maint out of the way, they're pretty solid vehicles. A coworker had a GMC pickup of that gen with the same drivetrain, it looked like it was dropped off a building but had 300k when he finally replaced it (even had the original transmission! ) . Plus no Toyota tax on those, so I'd plan on spending 5-6k, plus a few more in maint and mods.

My 4R is a 13 with 115k though, so not sure if the crazy value would apply to one that old. If it was like 15kish I wouldn't consider it. Only one way to find out I guess!

Ive been holding off on the valuation, I have a small crack in my windshield, I gotta call my insurance this weekend and get that replaced (for free) first.

I bet they’d offer more than that. Good idea on the vehicle plan - hopefully you could land more like 20-something.
I’m actually at carmax now. Getting an official quote on paper and then I can start to plan better

Haha, totally true. Buying used for more than the price of new really is taking it to a different level, though.

I’d love one, always have. I’m currently looking for a decent outback. Cargo room and comfort in one. It’s like a 4Runner car lol

I’ve had a 2012 Outback and have really enjoyed it. It’s no 4Runner but that is probably why I was getting close to 30mpg average on it - which is wild for a car that size with awd.

Yup not bad at all. I’m looking at those or possible a new civic since they’re cheap and run forever and naturally great on gas. It would be given to my daughter in 3 years

Volvo XC70 fits that bill as well. I have an '07, bought it in 2012 with 90k, has 226 now. Has been super reliable, and it's super comfy.

Our son took over the Outback and the wife got the 4Runner. I’d buy another Outback if we wanted to go station wagon again.
