I want to go 35” tires

Do you have to use spc uca to run 35” tires? What is another option? Only because I don’t want to buy another set of uca.

 

You’re going to need a lot more work than SPC UCA’s to run 35’s. If I was going 35’s I wouldn’t even consider SPC UCA’s.
A regear should 100% be on your radar for 35’s too.

 

Yes I know I would have to regear. I’m saving up for that.

 

Are you on stock UCA's?

35's will require a body mount chop or relocation, and a lot of cutting and other adjustments.

That's a good start. There was a thread here or another forum about fitting 34's or 35's. I read a few sentences and decided to go with 33's. I think it was the cutting that put me off.

 

There’s an old maxim “form follows function”. Sure it’s a free country, and you don’t need to justify your choice of 35s to anyone, but that’s a difficult choice on a 4 Runner! If you really need 35s I’d get a new Bronco or a Jeep that has a better design for accommodating them.

 

Never seen 35s in person on 5th gen 4R. Have seen 37s though. Lotta work making those fit.
For 35s, likely need at least 2.5 inch suspension lift and adding 1" body lift might let you get away without cutting fenders open further. Front bumper will need a bit of trimming if you still have factory plastic bumper. Windshield washer fluid tank will need relocated. Front body mounts trimmed. Adjust or replace bumpstops in rear to keep body off tire. Remove or heat deform fender liners.

Yeah, if he needs that, great, personally I like a bit of a civilian look since it’s my only vehicle and sometimes it gets valet parked. Having said that, though, it’s fun to watch others try out their predilections. I wonder what he regeared to, or does he have a team of horses somewhere to move it?

My next tire size upgrade will be to 33s. Yet I find myself, thinking I should go bigger. Was at an Off Road park last weekend airing up when a husband and wife pulled up driving matching Wranglers on 40s.

 

Every time I go to my local off road shop, I get tire envy. They always seem to have a Jeep on 37's out front.

 

We recently went 35" tires on Jade, that's my 2016 TEP.

Pretty straightforward install.

Take off the fender flares and trim
Mark fenders and trim
-Relocate fender pinch weld bolt (attaches fender to the fender flare)
-Make new fender pinch weld bolt + bracket
Clean/sand everything
Wrap with door edge trim guard
Install new clips all the way around (factory Toyota clips are best)
Install new 3m fender flare seal or factory Toyota fender flare seal (3m Ok)

A few must-haves prior to installation:

-BMC
-Smash pinch seam
-Remove the majority of fender liner plastics, if not all plastics.

I might be missing something but you get the point.

Last I time I spoke to sven he mentioned
Having 456, if I recall correctly, saying he should have gone with 488
Also talked about 37 being a bit too squishy and squirrely

 

4.56 sounds about right for 33" tires. 34" tires or even 35" tires should get 4.88s but not always. It really depends on your driving style and where you are located.

 

That's what I thought of getting too 456,
but after talking to other with similar weight and rigs I'm leaning more 488
I'm still rolling in stock gears and CHEESE my mpg is hurting
But more importantly I can feel the gerbil running its heart out on 33's
Next big mod is def def definitely regear
N dual battery

The motor doesn't have enough power to get the tires rolling.

They sure do look sweet though.

 

Tires aren't the only thing that would need to be BIG to wheel that thing

 

I put 305’s with Toyo AT3’s no spacers. Wheels are -12mm. rub at full lock but I try not to.

 

I can see in the photo that you don’t have enough wheel space to fully articulate, so that would be a non starter for me. I get it, though, big tires look cool. Form follows function though in my world, and I need to be able to go off road in some rough places to get to some sweet quiet spots that I like.

 

Yeah, I would go 4.88s on 295s+ but stay at the 4.56 on 285s. If the 285s lean on a 33.5" maybe the 4.88s.

 

Haha i said the same thing when i put them on. I havent taken her out with the new shoes and suspension except to tahoe. We will see in few weeks when i head out to hollister. If its bad i will go smaller. I had the go big or go home mentality.

 

I have to say, I love the look. It would not be a big deal for Toyota to offer 35s on 4 Runners, the same as Ford is doing on the Bronco. It’s so close to working at 100%.

 

Feel like I'm constantly riding the brakes, off-road with 33 inch 285's. A regear may be in my near future.

Side note:
Saturday evening after off-roading with a bunch of Wranglers, I went back to help recover a Land Rover that was stuck on one of the trails - with hydrolocked engine. He was supposed to join our group for the trail ride but didn't show up till later and went on his own.

I got there just as another vehicle (3rd gen Pathfinder) had pulled him up to the main road. I gave the Rover driver, his wife, dog, and 2 kids a ride to the next town north where they had parked their backup mini-van.

Talking to the Rover driver, he slipped off a muddy rut and his intake sucked up a bunch of water. He pulled the plugs, turned it over, then reconnected the plugs and got it started. Shortly thereafter he heard a bang and everything locked up. Most likely threw a rod. Looking closer at his air box, he noted a large open hole in the bottom of it where there should've been a one way plug.

Where am I going with this? I think I need to get a snorkel. I know snorkels are more effective on diesel engines. However, water crossings and mud holes are a fact of life here in the Ozarks.
