When is the big reveal for your upgrades? Did you proceed with the Westcott lift? SeaMint is a clever description!

It's nice to know (confirm) that these trucks are doing well on the resale market, but that's why I bought it in the first place. Great truck, holds it's value.

Remember when this happened to the housing market in the early 2000's. If you're thinking of cashing out or trading up? Now is the time to do it because it won't last forever. Reality is just around the corner. jm2c

Yep I just signed a contract for a new construction house in October. It won’t even be built until July. Yet the value went up $100k since then. I hope this bubble lasts two years so I can cash out without the heavy tax penalty.

Hate to break it to ya....... How do you start your 4Runner? I haven't been able to find any manual transmission 4Runners lately :)

Like I said in another thread, I got a great offer from a dealership for $53K and trade my 4R for a 2012 Xterra with only 38K miles for $20K and pay zero taxes. I would pay cash for the X. I would have to put $10K into it to make it similar yet still not as good as my Pro. Having $30K into a 10 year old gas guzzler seems like a worse investment than just keeping my Pro. The problem is I love my 4R and it is set up perfectly for my dog and I. My Pro is basically set up with very few things that I want for it. So I think I will keep the Pro. I might regret this decision, but then again I may never have another vehicle as good or as nice as my Pro.

Not exactly sure what you're breaking to me... ? :notsure:

They made manual trans 4Runners until 2000, so that might be a good place to start your search.

My search? I want a Cybertruck. That's not here yet so I'm buying a 4Runner.

You might want to search I guess since you hate owning a vehicle that's completely reliant on a battery. Like the 2020 4Runner in your signature. Should save a lot of money selling that and getting a 2000 model if you want to not rely on batteries anymore.

i agree with you for the most part, yeah. i have a 2012 and wouldnt mind something newer even with my lower mileage. its more of a thinking out loud situation at the moment.

Well, I read about it. A LOT. It is a cool vehicle, it is FAST, wont rust, looks very nice (subjective, beauty is in the eye of the beerholder). It doesn't really bring any new technologies, they will use updated Model 3 and Model S motors in it. They will use the new Tesla batteries and the current battery warranty is not bad, longer than any engine in ICE cars: "8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period." with higher models to 192.000 km and for Model S 240.000 km.
So will it be reliable? As much as another Tesla on the road, which is pretty good.
It seems their electric motors are designed to last 1 million miles.
Battery charge times? I understand that, I am willing to take that hit. It will be backed up by a much smaller ICE car.
PS: all engines and transmissions eventually die as well.

Credit where credit is due. James, who did my wrap and ceramic coat gave me the idea when he said he was telling someone about the color and they were confusing it with 'cement'.......he responded......no, and spelled out SEAMINT.
I loved it, and the rest is history.

Seamint is my favorite color on late 90s Jaguar XJs, so long as they have white bisque leather interior with burgundy piping. That is pure class fellas. I never thought a 4runner could qualify as having a classy color, but dangit, you’re right. It is seamint!

One factor that I considered when I bought my 2021 4 Pro is it's upcoming production stop once the 6th gen. comes out next year. I wanted that piece of reliability that emerged from 5 generations with little change. My dealer said the prices for the discontinued models will sky rocket.

:laugh: Maybe you should be spending your time on a Tesla forum... 4Runners aren't all electric, Mike, "hate to break it to ya". And a "manual transmission" doesn't mean "no battery".:laugh:

All engines and transmissions can also be rebuilt, but batteries cannot. Personally, I think the Cybertruck is ugly as hell. But everyone has their own taste... I don't know much about the reliability of Teslas, but I did read a story just a few days ago of two guys in Austin who burned alive in their Tesla because the autopilot failed and wrapped the car around a tree. The fire dept also had a tough time putting out the fire because the batteries kept reigniting.

The only thing I like is the 16'' ground clearance.....Still debating though if the whole thing this is just a joke. I mean, seriously???

Don't know why I'm 4 replies into what should have just been a quick little joke...

    But I'll break it down.
4Runners are literally completely reliant on battery power, how else do you start it? Your original post was funny because technically was wrong in an ironic way.

Its also funny that you brought up that specific Tesla fire. Unfortunately ill have to spell this out too since you didnt read enough into it and dropped it into your big "batteries are evil, but I love the one that starts my 4Runner" bucket. Apparently they were "driving" (?) without autopilot enabled and no one sitting in the drivers seat.

A lot of 4Runners will hit trees that are driving without someone in the drivers seat too, some of those will catch fire. Maybe not the ones that work without batteries... Those are the special ones.

Edit: I don't consider myself a Tesla fanboi (who does), I have huge, major, issues with how the company handles Right-to-Repair issues. But from an engineering standpoint (I'm one of those people), what they're doing is just simply remarkable.

Do you really not understand the difference between starting a vehicle using battery power versus relying entirely on a battery to move your vehicle down the road? I thought you were joking at first too, but clearly you aren't... In that case, you probably shouldn't be talking about ANYTHING "from an engineering standpoint".

I don't find anything funny about two guys losing their life due to vehicle malfunction, and for you to be so dismissive of that incident shows your character. Lars Moravy from Tesla literally came out and said "at least one of the autopilot features was enabled", and Elon himself stated "someone was in the driver seat". But yeah, guess I didn't "read enough into it".

I agree I must be a terrible terrible human being. But at least I understand a battery being required to get a vehicle moving, means, the vehicle is completely reliant on said battery. And the difference between a vehicle malfunction and putting a vehicle on cruise control and getting out of the drivers seat at speed for the "lulz".

At the same time, play stupid games, win stupid prizes....
“Our investigation has determined that one of the victims was in the front passenger seat; one was in the back seat,” Mark Herman, a constable for Harris County Precinct 4, told KHOU, adding police were “100 percent certain that no one was in the driver’s seat.”
I feel for the families of everyone involved in the Darwin Awards.

Also: Dang these 4Runner prices. Man, insane...

Yep! After 6 weeks of ownership my own rationalization bubble popped and the current market allowed me to sell it for basically $1,500 more than I spent (all-in, plus extras!). No regrets, it's just a car.

6 weeks? and I thought I had car ADD LOOOL. I almost never keep a car for longer than 3 years and currently the golf R is the longest I've ever held onto a car and all my friends keep asking ... "so when are you swapping the R for something new?"

as for the 4r used market, dealers in WA are sending emails out and offering MSRP to buy 18 and newer T4R's from folks as long as its under i think 12k miles a year. And you know they're going to turn those around and sell em used for over msrp because of the shortage of stock to buy.

Be that as it may, there is always another side to the story. Personally, I do not understand the Tesla hate, I think they are doing an amazing job in terms of engineering and they lit the fuse on all other automakers' tampons. GM/Ford/Chrysler have been making automobiles for 100 years now and here comes Musk to turn their world upside down.
I will not get mine with full driving capabilities, I still like to drive, myself, hands on, but that torque is unmatched, especially for the price. Imagine the 0-60mph in 2.9sec for 69k USD, that's simply insane and I WANT IT! That's top supercar territory in an AWD behemoth of a truck. Sign me up !
Plus, regardless if we like it or not, the whole world is going electric. Sooner or later the 4R will join the club and given Toyota's knowledge with the Prius, I hope it stays this reliable.

And about the battery packs: some get reconditioned, they simply remove the dead cells with new ones. You'll be surprised to know how small an actual battery cell is.
    Would I buy a fully electric 4Runner ? Hell yes, but that's a unicorn.

Haha! Nah, it was a dumb move on my part to pick up a brand new ORP as my daily driver when most of its life will be spent commuting on rural highways 50 miles/day. Not a big deal, but why not take advantage of the get out of jail free card if I can!

    Grats on the 1.5k

I'd do it in a heartbeat to make a couple k. That goes a long way to another Motorcycle :D

Then next year, pick up a 4Runner again for 3k below MSRP...

I struggle with both wife and I drive about 20 miles round trip for work, and neither of our vehicles can do this on a gallon of gas. But I’m not getting rid of the manual transmission taco, and the wife keeps asking why I’m always talking about trading her 4Runner.

I would consider a hybrid once they have proven themselves, but not sure I’m ready for all electric. What happens when you run out of battery hours from civilization, long extension cord. Will they offer hammocks or recliners for folks while waiting for the vehicle to charge? Think about all the vehicles you see getting fuel at the highway stops? That’s a lot of folks charging.

^This.. you can fuel a gas car in 2-3 minutes. When EV can do that I may consider. My neighbor has a Tesla and he drives it to a local station with 20-30 other idiots and they all sit there like zombies waiting to juice up
