I’ve inherited my wife’s v8 4Runner after selling my 3rd gen Tacoma. When doing maintenance I noticed this coolant leak any ideas as to what it is? I don’t have a garage and it’s getting colder out as time goes on and work has not gave me the time to start figuring it out. It’s on top the motor at the front. Any pointers on where to start would be great.

Is it leaking at the thermostat housing? That's the easiest thing I can think of that would be in that area.

It just looks like a hose and clamp needs to be changed.

Forgot to mention scrap all the crap off as well with a PLASTIC scraper.

From my research it’s the water inlet housing there must be an oring or something in there because it’s a metal to metal connection with no clamp visible

Nothing is metal to metal or it will always leak.

Gotta be a gasket or o ring that needs to be changed.

Should be an easy fix then. Any auto parts store should have in stock, or be able to get it overnight.

    It's probably just 2 or 3 bolts.

    Don't let it overheat!

    3RD GENERATION'

Could be you need a new radiator or WP.

radiators are cheap today. $100 at Amazon

He doesn't say where it's leaking. It's old. Needs a new radiator.

What, You think it's leaking from WP?

He doesn't say its from the thermostat housing?

    3RD GENERATION' ???

Why would it need a new radiator if there is a small leak around the T-stat housing?

Go to a box store, rent a pressure tester and end the guesswork.

Fur sure get a pressure tester. Around $60 for a basic one and will pay for itself when you don't change the wrong component the first time.

It’s the o-ring from the thermostat housing leaking. I’ll keep it topped off and deal with the repair in the spring. Thanks for all the help

One overheat and you can lose the engine and it will never run right. I'd fix it right away.

You could be on a highway and it might blow all the coolant out!

    Fix it right away. IMO.

I HAVE A 15 YEAR OLD 4RUNNER AND THE COOLANT LEVEL HAS BEEN THE SAME FOREVER.

    Holds 2 gallons of coolant!

Take it to a professional. Get a few opinions????

Luckily it’s not losing coolant quick. From full to half in 2.5 months. It only goes to work and back 10 mile round trip right now

A new radiator for a 3rd generation as soon as it shows signs of failure, leaking or overheat. Radiators do wear out.

    New radiator is under $100.

Uh, its a 4th gen 4runner & this is the 4th gen section. A coolant leak at the T-stat housing does NOT require a new radiator!

Mine created a slow leak that was never detected because it was behind the fan shroud near the top of the radiator where the aluminum meets the plastic. I was replacing a CV axle when I noticed a pink spot on the bottom of the radiator so I removed the fan and fan shroud and found the slow leak. Replaced the radiator and it has been all good since.

see Toy Yoda. Replaced his radiator. Cheap ($100) insurance - especially in 15 year old rig. Radiators are cheap (and easy job) at Amazon.com and you get a perfect fit.

See what? Yes he replaced his radiator, RonT4R wasnt part of this thread until just now. & the OP's issue was a leaking T-stat housing, not a radiator.

& You called it a 3rd gen! LOL!

Is there a dislike emoji? One for the post and the poster? Preferably a dislike that would notify the mods to ban this guy from this forum as well.

Ahh c'mon captain aka F150, you got yourself banned from the other 4runner forum all on your own with the constant nonsense you posted, then weaseled your way back in under a new user name.

Fact is 99% of what you post is misinfo or simply misunderstood or uneducated mumbo jumbo & when myself or others try & help or correct you with facts, you get all mad & call us childish names or claim how much money you have or post pics of fish... LOL! Maybe you should tell everyone here about how you think synthetic oil causes head gasket issues or that your 2005 4runner is a 4 speed trans & uses T-IV trans fluid & see what they think??

Beat it Troll. You are full of misinformation. You are no Scotty Kilmer (53 years a mechanic/multimillionaire). You are AH spreading lie after lie. MoMO should ban you. You write garbage and more garbage to incite.

You don't even own a car. Troll along, please.

Glad you like the picture of the Mahi mahi that weighed 71.1. pounds and won 2nd place in the Marlin Marine tournament (and a $500 gift certificate) on my 42-foot Performance with three F225 Yamahas on her stern (brand new). Got second place the following year in same tournament - but never won it. Nassau is a fishing capital of the world.

I gaffed that 71.1 pound Mahi (near world record weight). Everyone in Nassau remembers me and my boat, as does the USAF.

Misinformation? Lie after lie? Prove it. Show me one thing I have said that is misinfo or a lie in replies to your posts, just one. I will wait.

MoMo should ban me?? LOL! You mean like he did to you on the other forum?

    "AH"- childish name calling.

I dont even own a car??? What??? That's your go to reply when you get proven wrong, that & the "scotty kilmer" nonsense... think you need to look up the definition of a troll, you are the poster child of a troll!

My apologies if providing correct info upsets you.
