Requesting help from anyone who has successfully made this work for there 5th gen. Having sky high standing wave, ground powder coat off on all screw heads and where the fire ring mounts on the bottom , ran a braided ground on inside of bracket to the body and still no go

Wish there is any option that goes on the stock roof rails. If there is I can move my GMRS antenna and add a cb as well.. :)

(Not feeling comfortable to drill the bumper.)

    (Update - something like this)

Do not under any circumstance drill it lol. Not for this mount anyway , I’ve tried everything checked resistance between everything. Have it where I should and don’t where I shouldn’t. I’ve spent hours messing with it

Would be pretty easy to make a cb mount for there. Just need a standard l mount bracket that you could bolt into the channel with a weld washer. Similar to how the factory cross bars tighten down. Had I not invested so much time and energy into gutting the interior and everything to run this setup I should have done something like that

What did you attach your ground to in the body? Also what antenna are you running?

To add have you tested the antenna on another rig that is known to have low swr? Maybe a friend or a local cb shop?

I'm looking at something like for the rack: Comet RS-660U Mobile Antenna Adjustable Roof Rack Mounts - Mobile Antenna Mounts (dxengineering.com)
I haven't measured to see if it'll fit, but something along these lines would work. Plus, you can fold it down when you're height-restricted.

Have swapped all kinds of antennas on another rig that works. Local cb shop told me mount looks great but won’t ever work., which I don’t want to believe , hoping for someone with the same setup to chime in

I can't see any reason that mount won't work. Granted, it's not sitting on flat surface and it's got the body blocking it a bit, but it'll work fine for most applications. I had a similar mount on my Jeep... I bolted an old tire-bump stop to the body in roughly the same place you've placed yours, and ran a 4ft tuneable firestick. It worked fine. You might never get to 1:1, but 2:1 would be fine.

I'd re-check the grounds. If you have a multi-meter you can check between the ground at the antenna, the mount, and where you've grounded it on the body.

Right. I’m not asking for perfect. Just in a safe range that won’t fry the finals on my radio. I have a multimeter. From the coax going into radio. The threaded portion I have good ground to negetive on battery. No continuity between center pin and threaded portion. And from center pin to antenna Tip I have good continuity

Hmmmm. I wonder if the spring is throwing it off. You might try removing it and see if it's influencing your SWR.

I'm running out of ideas. I'm guessing you checked the ground between the mount and the body. And there shouldn't be continuity between the base of the antenna above the nylon insulating washer and the mount/body. You might touch base with Firestik - they may have some ideas. I've had good luck with them via email in the past. They have some good suggestions regarding SWR on their website, too. Tech-Docs Index (firestik.com)

It's probably the location so close to the body.
    • Disconnect the cable at both ends and check it with an ohm meter for shots and make sure the PL-259 is properly connected.
    • Sweep the installation with a vector network analyzer (VNA) this will show you where it's resonant and can help you adjust tuning.
    • Consider going to a roof mount NMO mount with Larsen NMO-27 antenna.

starting to believe it. When I was originally looking for mounts seemed like this was a popular one. Now that I’ve installed it. I can’t find any info on it

Have you tried relocating the ground? Maybe take a piece of 14g or whatever size wire really and run it to the frame. It’s a long shot but we did similar testing with the Tacoma until we found a sweet spot behind the camper shell on the rear. I think I ended up running between the tailgate and bumper down to the frame snd bolting in on a bumper bracket snd finally got the swr in a safer range. It wasn’t perfect but it wasn’t in the threes.

you may have to try different spots but that may work out for you.

Tried a couple spots, where did u attach the ground to the bracket? Where it bolted to truck or where the coax meets the bracket

On the actual bracket. That made the entire bracket a ground.

Sadly I’ve tried that. Heading out for Moab tn. Maby one of the cb shops out there can troubleshoot it for me. Or Maby I’ll run into someone with the same mount

Gotcha. Last thing I would check is your wires. Make sure nothing got pinched, nothing is torn or stretched. Truly don’t think at this point it’s the mount. The mount is just a piece of metal there has to be something else that’s causing the issue. It could be mount positioning but I still don’t believe the actual metal mount is the problem.

and just to make sure you set the mount up correctly make here is from Firesticks website.

I was considering going with this mount, but I think that I'll just use a Stryker A10 magnetic antenna.
