    ...and spin-on adapter.

Did the spin-on adapter on my ML350 BT. Filter surface was increased at least 40%.

Looking to do the same thing to the 4Runner but want to relocate the filter up top. Sent an email to Baxter Performance, they've got everything I'd need except the two oil lines

    From Baxter:

    Hello Peter,
Installation locations vary and we do not provide hose kits at this time.
Required fitment for your application is the TR-202-BK Cartridge to Remote Adapter and the RI-101-BK Inverted Remote Mount. Hose requirements are 5/8 ID hose rated for fuel and oil, rated at 250 psi with -10AN female fittings.
Most of our customers purchase the adapters, determine mounting location, hose length and fittings.
Please find attached installation article from Toyota 4WD Owner Magazine as an example.

That's pretty awesome. You putting one on your 4Runner Peter?

    I'm going to consider it.

Definitely. I almost had a hernia trying to reinstall the front skid-plate on my Pro. It's stoopid heavy, considering it's aluminum. It is pricey though, comes out to $430 USD + shipping. Waiting to hear back from them, as they don't indicate any shipping charges in the cart. I think it's free shipping to the continental US, buy I couldn't get a shipping quote to Canada.

Received the kit, was all gung-ho to install it. The I talked to the Toyota dealership and they informed me that this would/could affect my warranty if the engine suffered any-oil-related failure. I'm bummed.
Gonna have to wait 'till the warranty is over, which is 3 years I believe...

I honestly don't see a reason to wait it out. The oil relocation kit is not voiding the warranty on the entire motor.......just if there is a failure because of the product. If the oil relocation kit causes the failure, then you'd be paying for it either way whether you're in warranty or not.

So has anyone on the forum successfully installed this relocation kit and can share there results, install tips, etc … Definitely curious to know.

If you do a search over on the T4R.org forum you'll find a ton of discussion on the Baxter and similar kits. I really miss the oil filter location from our fourth gen, but I am not willing to void the warranty on our brand new '21 to save some hassle when changing the oil ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Finally grew a set and started the oil filter relocation. Ordered a 20' AN10 piping kit on Amazon ($200 CAN), waiting on it to finish the install. The oil filter bracket itself cost me 3 hours in time and $138 (speeding ticket when out to get the hardware). I used a Rivnut kit for a clean install

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
After all that work and you went with a Fram filter? They are total crap.

Thanks for the write-up and the idea. I have been thinking about an alternative location to avoid the inevitable hassle of the OEM location.

LOL. The setup isn't up'n running yet. Waiting on a set of AN10 lines/fittings to finish the install. I had the Fram filter lying around and used it as a dummy.

I will admit that up 'till about a year ago, I had no idea how bad Fram's standard filters are. I replaced the oil filter on our ML350 Bluetec with a spin-on adapter and posted the pic on a garage site.....boy, did I get my ass handed to me....

I would not put that filter in that area HELL NO MAN !
OIL FILTER IS LOW AREA ... the oil filter will drain out when engine shuts down .. also that filter will get more hot than the lower area is cooler UNDER THE ENGINE !
I do not use fram filters ... I use wix/napa gold/pure one purolator .. these work good and I cut them open to see if the filtration material is very good ..

I do my oil changes an the runner is more work ... the filtration filter of toyata is a very good material .. If a person goes to an oil changer place then the filtration work will cause a lot of damage ..

On my GM vehicles I fill the oil filters to the top then spin them on ...filters are vertical open on the top .

Bro, the oil system has an anti drain-back check valve. Matter of fact, on my ML305, I have to punch a hole into the top of the filter to get the oil to drain back so that I don't get oil leaking all over the place when I remove the filter.

I did not like how you put that filter upside down ...then your filter is higher than the engine .

Please keep us posted once you get your hoses and final install; wondering how you would calculate the additional oil it will take? Does the manufacture of this kit provide you with a how to or installation recommendations?

The 6.0l Powerstroke in my 2004 F-250 has a canister oil filter on the very top of the engine. The engine also uses the engine oil pressure to drive the injectors.
I guess I am questioning why being higher than the engine is a problem. :notsure:

My 2007 FJ has a spin on filter near the top of the engine. I expect 4 Runners of the same era are the same. All stock Toyota.

No, Baxter can't help here. The hose lengths and filter location provide for endless variables. I'm sure I'll end up adding about 1/2 a quart when all is said and done.

Yeah, it's more of a "WTF, filters are never up so high" reaction. But again, the anti drain-back check valve in the filter prevents oil starvation on start-up. Really not an issue.

As does my 07' FJ. Matter of fact, I usually punch a hole in the top of that filter before removing it as well.

Nothing wrong with Fram filters. But, I only recommend synthetic media filters. And, make sure whatever brand you chose has a silicone ADBV. Most nitrile rubber ADBV's do work but pay attention to startup noises. It will be obvious if your filter is empty as your engine clatters to life. Top mount filter is fine but I would rethink it if there was any room.

So, if you must Fram, and that is a 3/4-16 remote mount, use the Fram XG8A.
Others ~liter sized filters to consider in 3/4-16.

    Fram Titanium
    Wix XP51515xp
    Napa Platinum PFL41515
    Fram XG8A
    Purolator PBL30001
    Amsoil EAO15 or EAO26
    RoyalPurple 30-8a
    Baldwin B2-HPG
    Fleetguard LF3487
    Fram HP1... racing filter
    Wix 51515r racing filter
    Motorcraft CM-6731-FL1A (Ford racing filter)
Trasko T3/4-20S if you want something shiny.
    Canton 25-546 or 25-264
Stilko Sk12 recycled from swap meet, yard sale, or ebay

And, if you want a dealer filter.... 90915-yzzd3 used on the 4.2-4.5 straight 6 and 4.7 V8 but little smaller like a PH3600/51516 sized filter. I'm guessing that there is a TRD equivalent too.
