As the title says, Im looking into beefing up security on my Runner. I will be moving at the end of the year to either Tallahassee FL, Norman OK, or San Antonio TX. Oklahoma Im not worried about, but Tallahasee sees 1300 car thefts a year and SA Texas has a fair amount. So Im looking to add beefed up security, If anyone has upgraded theirs or runs a recovery service like LoJack what are your experiences and what do upgraded sytems offer. On the dashcams, my old man had a hit and run recently and made me think it may be a good idea to have one since I commute a lot especially in the spring, plus to capture some cool recordings while chasing storms.

I keep a lot tools and other steal worthy things in my truck, but I have 5% tint and the cargo cover so it is impossible to see in my truck. However, my truck itself stands out with lift bumpers and more being added in the future, Im concerned they just would want to take the truck as a whole.

Reviving this thread as I had my first ever incident two nights ago. Looking at various models for front and rear so far I’ve narrowed it down to:

    thinkware u1000
    Blackvue 650s
    Viofo a119 duo
    And two garmins

pretty much in that order. If you have any experience with these models or brands please let me know. I’m looking at ordering something in the next 24/48 hours.

if its that bad, your insurance will go up
id also install a kill switch
the cameras will get stolen too
you need a camera with parking mode and buy the wiring harness from them - hide the wires nicely
get tinted windows, as dark as you can, i run 20% front, 20% over factory tint back and 5% over factory tint rear
never leave any change in the car - they broke into one of my vehicles, took $1 in change and left $300 raybans on the seat
for some reason, not sold on the garmins, the others are ok, i have a viofio and it has been good in canadian winters -25C to +35C
    get capacitors, not battery
wifi is a plus as cops usually will look at the footage on the spot, but not later in court (in case of an accident)
camera will not stop theft or accidents, it will just make it easier to deal with your insurance

Put one or two kill switches in, that way at least it won't be stolen. As others have said, either no valuables in vehicle or have them hidden. Buy house with garage and keep vehicle in it when at home.

I had a horrible time with the fa200. I ended up returning it because the app wouldn’t recognize that my phone and dash cam were connected. Whole purpose was to use it via WiFi and couldn’t get it done so it was returned.

I ended up returning it right after installing it. It was great while it was on, but when you powered off the vehicle it would stay stuck in a power on/off cycle until the battery died (dashcams battery). I ended up going with this: Grdian Nova 4K Dual-Channel Front and Rear WiFi Dash Cam with Parking Mode, Loop Recording, Motion Detection, GPS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BFDR65G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_9W4X5EZ5TCAAZKYNXBXY

Nice that one looks promising too.
Where did you mount the rear camera?

Yeah, so far no issues. The sensor and optical is great, gives good night time footage. For now I just used the supplied 3M tape and stuck it to the rear hatch. I plan on making a small bracket and bolting it to the roof on the inside so it gets a better angle.
