So a few weeks ago my power steering seemed to have stopped working. I say seemed only because it was intermittent. Then last week out of nowhere it started working fine again. No issues. Turned like it was supposed to. Now today it's doing the same thing again. Very hard to turn. Any thoughts? Steering rack or pump?

Fluid looks good. I am just worried about cost. Like I don't want to just start fixing one thing at a time until I find the issue. Definitely take power steering for granted. Lol

The fluid looking good is one thing, have you ever had it flushed?

I have had the 4Runner for about 5 months. I never had it flushed so not sure if it has ever been done

    This and that
That would be the place to start, it's probably a good idea to do maintenance that should have been done now that you have it.

So I have been doing a little more research on my steering issue. I found a lot of 4runners this year had problems with the intermediate shaft Union. This shaft connects to the steering rack. So I got underneath and sprayed that union with PB Blaster. Let it sit overnight and wow what a difference. So I'm confident this is my issue. Still going to get a PS fluid change though.
