Hey everyone. I've always loved 4runners and now I'm really trying to get my hands on one. Obviously with the quality and resale value the new ones are super expensive so I've been looking to trade in or sell my car to get a used 4runner. The other day I found someone willing to trade! I have a 2012 Mitsubishi lancer GT with 73k miles. The person that is interested in trading has an 04 4runner v8 4x4 with 98k miles. I'm definitely considering it since I love 4runners and they last forever. Plus it really says something about the values of each car when a 12 year old car with more miles is worth more than my 4 year old car with less miles. So what do y'all think? 01515_d724sh29Asg_600x450.jpg 01515_d724sh29Asg_600x450.jpg 00g0g_1ry0uXiD2sU_600x450.jpg

If the carfax is clean, the values are similar and it's what you are wanting go for it. Remember that the 4.7 has a timing belt so at 98K I would ask if it has been changed.

See if you can get the vin # so you can log on to toyota owners and check the services. It will need a timing belt change, they recommend 90k but i went to 120k and my belt looked new. But these belts can look new and pop the next day something to think about.

    I would do it! I love my 03 v8.

Thank you for the input! I've been doing a ton of research and searching for a 4runner that is close to the value of my car since I didn't want to go from having no payments back to having payments. My ideal 4runner would be an 03 and up v6 since they have the timing chains but it seems like the people that own those are smart and not letting them go. I'm going to take a major hit in money spent on gas since the gas mileage isn't too great and it requires premium but I want the security of having a tank haha

i have an 03 v8 and run regular. Ive done the tests and have found ZERO difference in three month each testing. Where did you hear it takes premium?

I know the v6 some ping with less than premium but not the v8.

Really?? I've seen that out takes premium on all the major websites that list the stats and reviews of cars. I know the gas mileage typically doesn't change but I wouldn't want it to start knocking or anything. It sounds like the v8 is a great motor so that would be nice if it didn't require premium.

In our 05 V8 we've used nothing but regular in it, no pinging or any signs that it's unhappy with it.
And as for V8 vs V6, if you intend on lifting/bigger tires, definitely get the v8. It's not bothered by that stuff as much as the v6's

That's so weird that the websites say to use premium gas. But that's good to know that you guys are able to use regular with no problem. What kind of issues do the v6 models get when lifting or adding bigger tires?

Mostly just a power thing. The v6 is less HP/TQ than the V8 and the v8 also gets lower axle gearing from the factory so they're less effected by the strain. Our 05 has 35's and fully armored and it doesnt feel slow at all, plus we can still get 18mpg on highway trips with it. The v6 wouldnt be able to do that

Well that's definitely good to know. Unfortunately the deal didn't happen. The person ended up selling it on me so now I've been searching for another one and can't seem to get my hands on one
