Victory 4x4 Crossbars - does surfboard/paddleboard hit the shark fin antenna?

Really love the low profile look of the Victory 4x4 crossbars and how they sit. I mainly will use these to transport surfboards and paddleboards. My question is has anyone had issues with their boards hitting the antenna when they lay the boards flat on the crossbars and strap them down?

I plan to only use straps to tie down and not have to get another attachment to carry the boards.

Another option if these are too low profile will be to get the LFD cross bars.

Gonna necro this thread. I’m starting to consider my options for crossbars, and will be similarly using it to carry a fairly flat-bottomed fishing kayak. Im worried about the clearance to the shark fin antenna as well.

Also, interested in general thoughts on these crossbars, victory or LFD, from anyone that owns them.

I ended up picking up a stock pair of crossbars for cheap and with my surfboards/paddle boards the antenna digs into the boards so I assume the Victory crossbars would be worse since they sit lower. I plan on getting the pads to put on the crossbars to give more clearance.

All that to say I think the best option would be to get the LFD crossbars since they sit higher.

I have 5 LFD crossbars (one fairing). Honest great company with excellent customer service. Only company I've ever had call to give me delay notices.

Also confirmed it does not hit the sharkfin in the back level at the last crossbar; ~5cm or 1/4 inch clearance

Cool, thanks for the replies. Funny how the toyota crossbars arent high enough.... Seems the crossbar dept was not talking to the sharkfin dept. Although they will probably both blame the roof rail dept...lol

@Mohoman does the crossbar with the fairing end up touching the roof if things flex while moving? Seem to recall pictures of the fairing coming awful close to the roof

The parcel service in TX shut down for a bit so I actually just received the wind fairing crossbar today. I’ll be installing tomorrow and I’ll try to answer your question. The straight bars are very sturdy and would take well over the Toyota rating for the rails in weight to bend the crossbars. Again, I’ll confirm tomorrow!

Thank you, looking forward to your observations. I previously loaded my 80lb kayak on my sienna with factory crossbars. They were strong, but loading a big kayak can be rough at times, which momentarily flexes the factory bars. So im more interested if they would flex under momentary shock loading

I almost got the factory bars and noticed it wouldnt work with the shark fin right away. I mostly use rack for only kayaks or sup boards. I put on the old yakima railgrabs with round bars (its now been used on 3 diff cars) and works very well.

If the photo in the original post shows Victory 4x4 cross bars, does anyone have a link to those? All I see on the Victory 4x4 site is this, which looks nothing like the photo above:

    https://www.victory4x4.com/product/XAL.html

Edit: never mind - after searching through 7 pages of their product list, there they were on page 7. What I don't get is one photo looks like the one above, and another looks like this:

So, if anyone has these, which is the actual representation of these crossbars?

You will probably get an answer from other members before I can provide my own definitive answer, but I ordered a set of three crossbars (V4RRK-CS-5G-PC) on 2/11/21 and am waiting their arrival. I had this same exact question. FWIW: When you purchase the crossbars there is a small picture of the crossbar with the four bolt holes in the outer most positions or edges. The pictured crossbar does not have the 22 slots that show in your posted image. That image also prints out on the invoice although it is extremely small. I'll follow this thread and chime in once they arrive.

I appreciate that thanks. I had not seen these prior to today, and am interested due to the lower profile, yet being much sturdier, it seems, than the oem cross bars.

The LFD crossbars look very strong, but they have a considerably higher profile.

The photo above is the current hole pattern. It has was updated since the original photos were taken to allow for more mounting options.

Thank you, that makes sense - more mounting options is good...would you happen to know what the clearance measurement is between the bottom of the crossbar and the highest point on the roof in the middle?

Its been a bit hectic here and I opted to wash the 4runner over installing the crossbars. After the snow here in TX, my white 4runner could have almost passed for magnetic grey. I should have it up this week without a doubt.

ATTACH=full]64503[/ATTACH] Received the crossbars purchased from Victory 4X4 (JCROffroad) this afternoon. First and foremost this should answer your question about which exact crossbar version you should get.

I also had to post images of the bars as received, more specifically how the crossbars were packaged. Unbelievable! Powdercoat shows no flaws. I was also thinking the bars might be on the light weight side. They are not at all. Any heavier and they would be overkill.

I had a couple question about the crossbars prior to my purchase, and then UPS messed up on the delivery so I had to contact Victory 4X4 regarding that. Every time I reached out to them they personally responded, and not with some automated generic blow-off response. I would not hesitate to purchase from Victory again. In fact I was on the fence when I bought these three bars not knowing what to expect. Now wish I had gone ahead and bought a total of four.

    Hope this helps.

@victoryrunner, I got the impression from your post above that the cross bars looked more like this:
But the crossbars received by @bedobe in the photo below look more like the original photo. Did I misunderstand your post?

Yes, I too was confused by Victoryrunners reply. After reading that post several times, I was anxious about exactly what I was going to get. What I was wanting, what I thought I'd get, turned out OK since I wanted crossbars configured as you see them in my posted image.

I can see your confusion...what I'm wondering is, if I order these, which version will arrive...?

I'll be looking forward to the installed photos. The photos on Victory's website leave a lot to be desired. You'd think if you wanted to sell something, you'd pay a bit more attention to displaying the product in the best way possible...

Sorry for the confusion! The bolt patterns on these were updated a month or two ago. There may have still been some older versions in stock. I will go check in the shipping department and see what will be shipping from here on out. I have not yet had a chance to get installed photos of the updated version, the 4Runners at the shop lately have had full racks.

It looks like they just shipped out the rest of the older design last week. So any order from now on should have the updated bolt pattern.

@victoryrunner, thanks for the response. I think what is confusing is, in your responses, you've never definitively stated which photo is the latest version of the crossbar. Then, when @bedobe received his order, and they looked like the original photo, it added to the mystery...can you verify that the latest version of the crossbar will look like the photo above, in this post, so we can put this to rest? Thanks.

I agree with all the confusion here, in my mind a picture posted by Victory 4x4 would be appropriate, and end all this guessing.

The judges have reached a decision!

I have to say, these look a lot sturdier and more useful, for actually carrying stuff, than the oem crossbars. In my case, they go perfectly with the black side rails on my truck...

Hmmm. I’m liking the extra height of the LFD cross bars. I live in the rust belt. LFD offer stainless versions. Do you all think it would be a good idea to step up to the stainless? Heck, they even have aluminum! Decisions decisions

Stock bars with rack pads clear the shark fin. Easy remedy for a little more space is to put a layer of additional foam in the pads.
