I will be missing the 38 gal. gas tank in the Tundra I no longer have.

How do people safely carry extra gas or gas cans?

Welcome from Wisconsin! I just hauled 15 gals. in the back cargo area, it was secured with a tarp. Not the way I would recommend, special gas for race use, traveled a whole 3 miles, that doesn't mean it was safe, but it's done. On this forum, I have seen several guys carrying plastic containers outside the vehicle in one way or another.

I have a Wavian gas can. I have kept it in the truck for days without even a whiff of gas smell. You can also mount them on some bumpers, or the roof. They're basically indestructible.

Wavian is definitely the way to go if you want to transport fuel inside a vehicle. They're spendy, but will last forever.

If a gas can is carried on top of a vehicle, I've wondered whether the air rushing by it could siphon gas out from a leaky vent or whatever.

There’s custom 33 gallon gas tanks if you want more of a permanent solution.

I would say superior is relevant to how you use them. I'm sure they're easier to lift and pour, but I would feel much safer transporting fuel on my bumper or roof in a Wavian can.

Safety Tip - keep your face away from the mouth of your jerry cans when opening them. They build up pressure in the heat and will spray you right in the eyes.

Some of the off road motorcycle solutions would fit our needs pretty well. I don't feel safe moving 40+ pounds of gas on or off the the roof. That is more than I can safely handle. A ladder or rack mount would work well for most approved containers.

I have heard this. It seems like a good idea to burp them occasionally if you're experiencing weather and/or altitude changes. I filled mine in Wisconsin last Thursday and emptied it in Florida on Saturday. It had quite a bit of pressure built up. I under-filled it to avoid the spray and it worked for me. Unfortunately I put the spout on and waited another 30 minutes or so before pouring it, and it sprayed when I poured it.

I been using RotoPax for a very long time now (7 years) it is a local manufacture to me here is Utah so I just go buy the factory blemish ones that are Perfect in everyway except there may be a little off color streak in it like who care? I don't but even at full price the product is awesome and is as safe as it can be. https://rotopax.com/

Mine clips on top of the can. I might consider a bungee cord or something to help secure it if I were carrying it on the roof or bumper.

Mine will be on the bumper if we go that route. That’s one thing that’s bothering me about them is the nozzle isn’t contained inside like the rotopax. But then again I won’t have gas all over my gloves either

I caught that but is there a way to secure it from someone walking off with the spout ? Sorry I should have been more clear on the question.
