Oil filter assembly...

what is the toyota 4runner part number on the oil assembly filter? I found the metal one but I am looking for a plastic one as well. The original one.

Did you have to replace the center metal piece?

 

I have been reading that it should be changed but some say they have not changed it.....just curious

 

Change it. Make it look like the OEM plastic one. You have to do some twisting and maybe bend a couple of metal tabs to accomplish it.

 

yesterday I had a loaner subaru outback it was 2020. our 2010 outback is doing a recall then we are selling it to a family member, when I opened the hood to look at the engine, it was a spin on and it was on top like my tacoma! whoever thought it was ok to change it into this oil assy housing needs go back to school and retake that engineering course. horrible design!!

 

yes spin and good location. so easy... this newer style is crazy... I need to get a new filter wrench, take out 2 o-rings and etc...also this 0w-20 is like water... so thin.

 

I fcked up the plastic filter housing. Broke off one of the tabs. No idea how I did it as I was using a torque wrench and everything was seated properly. Nevertheless, it is a good idea to have a back-up plastic filter housing or get the metal housing. I ended up getting the metal housing.

Putting it back on. It was one of the 3 tabs that broke so I at least had grip on 2 other tabs. I just left it on, put oil back in, drove it for another 10k and installed the metal filter on the next oil change.

 

I almost cross threaded the plastic housing today. BUT, noticed right away and then rethreaded on smooth and just snugged it down. I always start them by hand first...

 

Sorry for bringing this back up, I replaced my housing to the metal one and never replaced the support tube in the middle with the factory one. Now I can't find the plastic housing. Is it a big deal if I leave it like that?

 

Find one put one on there
Remember there's pressure going though the filer that piece is viagra to the filter short term sure its fine but personally I'd sleep better at night (just me you do you)
